The details of my life are quite inconsequential.. Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.

basicplus2··on Bitcoin sent to right-wing activists before Capitol riot from foreign account
"The source of the funding, according to research conducted by Chainanalysis, appears to be a computer programmer based in France who created an account in 2013 — and who maintained a personal blog, which was not updated between 2014 and Dec. 9, 2020, the day after the “donations.”

Chainalysis researchers discovered a blog post from the bitcoin user that reads like an apparent suicide note, bequeathing his money to “certain causes and people” in light of what he describes as “the decline of Western civilization,” though the researchers were unable to confirm that the user was in fact dead"

"a single tape cartridge with this new areal density has the potential to store about 580 terabytes (TB) of data.

Just to put that in perspective, 580 TB is equivalent to 786,977 CDs stacked 944 meters high, which is taller than Burj Kalifa, the world’s tallest building"

basicplus2··on Nervtag meeting on SARS-CoV-2 variant under investigation VUI-202012/01
In summary,

NERVTAG has moderate confidence that VUI-202012/01 demonstrates a substantial increase in transmissibility compared to other variants.

• NERVTAG concluded that there are currently insufficient data to draw any conclusion on:

- Underlying mechanism of increased transmissibility (e.g. increased viral load, tissue distribution of virus replication, serial interval etc)

- The age distribution of cases

- Disease severity: 4 deaths in around 1000 cases have been identified but further work is needed to compare this fatality rate with comparable data sets.

- Antigenic escape. The location of the mutations in the receptor binding domain of the spike glycoprotein raises the possibility that this variant is antigenically distinct from prior variants.

Four probable reinfections have been identified amongst 915 subjects with this variant but further work is needed to compare this reinfection rate with comparable data sets.

• The committee discussed the geographic extent of spread of the variant:

- Within the UK, the variant is concentrated in the London, South East and East of England but has been detected in various parts of the UK.

- Few cases of this variant have been reported internationally but one confirmed export from the UK to Australia has been reported.

It was noted that other countries have lower sequencing capability than the UK.

basicplus2··on CDC proposes camps "Green Zones" in America
This is what was being done to some extent in Australia by isolating old peoples homes.

However most of these facilities are privately run, and are staffed with low paid workers on part time casual contracts to maximise profits.

The workers therefore need second and third jobs usually at more than one of these facilities and still with plently of contact with the rest of the community.

When the workers get sick with covid themselves thet cannot afford to isolate as they would be sacked and replaced, so they continue to work and infect all the facilities that they work at.

basicplus2··on The Decline of Violent Conflicts: What Do the Data Say? [pdf]
Summary: We propose a methodology to look at violence in particular, and other aspects of quantitative historiography in general, in a way compatible with statistical inference, which needs to accommodate the fat-tailedness of the data and the unreliability of the reports of conflicts. We investigate the theses of “long peace” and drop in violence and find that these are statistically invalid and resulting from flawed and naive methodologies, incompatible with fat tails and non-robust to minor changes in data formatting and methodologies. There is no statistical basis to claim that “times are different” owing to the long inter-arrival times between conflicts; there is no basis to discuss any “trend”, and no scientific basis for narratives about change in risk. We describe naive empiricism under fat tails. We also establish that violence has a “true mean” that is underestimated in the track record. This is a historiographical adaptation of the results in Cirillo and Taleb (2016).

basicplus2··on Build your own professional-grade audio amp on the sort-of cheap (2018)
Sorry you are incorrect, Only in Class A is the whole of the signal contained in the operating area of the transistor, thus only class A amplifiers transfer the whole of the original signal on to each successive stage.

Class B C and D chop more and more out of the crossover point out of the signal as it passes through each stage.

eg to wake at 6am...

tap six times while saying "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6"

Repeat 2 times, (3 times in total)
