barista··on Luma updates its video camera app for iOS, adding cinematic image stabilization
How does this compare to the optical image stabilization on Nokia Lumia 920?
barista··on A closer look at the performance of Google Chrome
A quote worth noting from the article: "Some of these issues - such as the "infinite history" or the antiquated style of process isolation - may be driven by Google's business needs, rather than the well-being of the Internet as a whole. Until this situation changes, our only recourse is to test a lot - and always have a backup plan."

Actually for Microsoft a tablet was always a fully capable computer. It's apple who came up with a big iPod touch and started calling it a tablet.

Walt is an iPuppet. A balanced review from him is a big deal.
barista··on Review: BlackBerry 10 is better, much better, late than never
Windows phone does this unification in a way that works better for me.

All messages (sms, chat, facebook messages) are together All emails are together All social walls (facebook, twitter, linkedin, etc) are together.

You can switch the communication medium i.e. reply to facebook message with an SMS and so on. Of course all of these are filterable and configurable. This seems to work better for me as they are most of the times distinct worlds.

barista··on Nokia begins work on graphene
I'm sure it will expand over time in multiple industries. Think Kinect. It started as a gaming device but is also starting to be used in physiotherapy and other medical applications.
barista··on Office 2013: Just what on earth has the Office team been doing?
Agree the cloud integration looks quite useful. I'd love to just open and save files directly to SkyDrive and have that list of recent files available to me in any office client I use. This is an awesome functionality. Worth 2.5 years or not... don't know but I'm sure there is more cool stuff to office 2013 than just that. Love the OneNote app on metro.
barista··on Nokia releases 3D printing files for Lumia phone cases
Are you saying that the charges made Nokia impossible to succeed? What about the patent fees android OEMs have to pay?
barista··on Nokia releases 3D printing files for Lumia phone cases
Here's what: * awesome camera

* screen. better visibility in sun and ability to use with gloves on

* Windows Phone OS (This is debatable but I love it. Kids corner, people centric tiles, etc.)

* Office integration. This is killer. Sometimes I forget to take laptop to meetings and still get my work done on phone...killer

* Nice, free, offline maps

* Free music!!

* microusb charger. This has saved my life many times!!

What didn't you like?

barista··on Nokia releases 3D printing files for Lumia phone cases
You should seriously try out the Lumia 920 then.
barista··on Google Maps never supported IE on Windows Phone 8, and likely never will
nothing funny. Windows phone already has nice bing maps and nokia maps integration so nobody needed Google maps. But that's not the point...
barista··on Google Maps never supported IE on Windows Phone 8, and likely never will
The reason chrome was not supported earlier is probably because OWA possibly used some arcane and non-standard IE features that were lacking in chrome. Also AFAIK it never blocked the OWA outright (by redirecting to some other url instead)
barista··on Google Maps never supported IE on Windows Phone 8, and likely never will
AFAIK, IE10 on mobile has the same JS engine as the desktop one. What data you have to say that it is slow? This benchmark says its the fastest:

http://crockford.com/javascript/performance.html

Besides how do you explain the uk site that was working already that then got blocked?

barista··on Google Maps never supported IE on Windows Phone 8, and likely never will
Who said anything about optimizing here? Supporting and optimizing are two separate things.
barista··on Google Maps never supported IE on Windows Phone 8, and likely never will
> On the one hand, this isn't really any different than Microsoft not supporting Office on Chromium.

How's that the same? Web is a agreed upon standard. An OS is not.

barista··on Google Maps never supported IE on Windows Phone 8, and likely never will
well neither works on windows phone.
barista··on Google Maps never supported IE on Windows Phone 8, and likely never will
Many Google engineers here. Anybody care to explain what are the technical reasons why this would be not supported?
barista··on Google Maps never supported IE on Windows Phone 8, and likely never will
The reason its not supported is not because of technological limitations. It's just anti competitive practices from Google.
barista··on Here Comes the Next Microsoft Office
and all of them collectively only make a couple of percent of desktop share. Given this why bother with Linux at all? There is a web version that can be used on almost any platform
barista··on Here Comes the Next Microsoft Office
> whichever way they go, they will get less revenue from Office in the future

Can you explain how you arrived there? If office is made available on other platforms it will raise the revenue not lower it.

barista··on Google Agrees to Change Business Practices to Resolve FTC Competition Concerns
Money Google spent is close to the sum of what all other companies above spent. Talk about not doing evil.
barista··on Google Agrees to Change Business Practices to Resolve FTC Competition Concerns
This is a huge win for Google. For a company that has near monopoly in search and online ad business to escape this is a big deal.
barista··on Google Designing 'X Phone' to Rival Apple, Samsung
Unless Samsung is thinking of turning its back on android for any reason.
barista··on Google Designing 'X Phone' to Rival Apple, Samsung
Working with your hardware partners to develop more choices for customers while also providing a premium experience that you have full control on... Interesting that Google is copying Microsoft's strategy that people feared might backfire for Microsoft.
barista··on Steve Ballmer's Nightmare is Coming True
And I am sure it will be even less popular than a certain laptop that had less than 4 hours battery life and didn't even have a touch screen but it fit in a manila envelope (MacBook air)
barista··on Microsoft Is Disappearing Before Our Very Eyes
Apple was there just a few days ago. Market is not perfect and far from rational.
barista··on Steven Sinofsky to Leave Microsoft
I don't get this point. Windows 8 is probably the most connected windows ever. The store, Skydrive ads, all are driven by services behind the OS. I don't think that Sinofsky opposed or didn't get services.
barista··on Steven Sinofsky to Leave Microsoft
Courier : J Allard :: Surface : Sinofsky

Both of them equally sad departures. The latter more so.
