barfingclouds··on LLaMA now goes faster on CPUs
Why not just interact with a virtual one that’s equally weak? You get all the same benefits
barfingclouds··on Claude 3 model family
Poe. Poe has Claude 3 right now as well as Gemini pro (not ultra), gpt 4 and 3.5, mistral large, llama, others
barfingclouds··on Claude 3 model family
Yeah I spent a lot of time with Claude 2 and if I hadn’t heard online that it’s “censored,” I wouldn’t have even known. It’s given me lots of useful answers in close to natural human language.
barfingclouds··on Google to pause Gemini image generation of people after issues
Some people have pointed out that this is more or less consistent with other of google’s policies. I tested one last night to see if it was true. Go to google images and type “Asian couple”. You get 100% Asian couples. Black couple, 100% black couples. Type in white couple, you get something like 40% white couples

I agree with this. I don’t like new twitter but old twitter had a chokehold on society that did a lot of damage.

And yeah this is a lot of why I really hope trump isn’t elected. It’s going to bolster a far left movement like it did last time, to a really scary degree. That and undoing environmental policy, I feel like it will unravel this country

Lots of professors getting fired, or not promoted, guy who wrote the google memo fired, lots of censorship, canceling. You’d have to be intentionally lying to not notice this
barfingclouds··on Sora: Creating video from text
Look at Sam altman’s twitter where he made videos on demand from what people prompted him

barfingclouds··on OpenAI drops ban on military tools to partner with The Pentagon
Didn’t they specifically say they weren’t going to be involved with weapons and war?
barfingclouds··on A math professor who objects to diversity statements
Yeah diversity just means non white

I kind of pieced something together recently that makes me feel sick to my stomach. Diversity only matters in white majority areas or white countries. Too many white people anywhere is a bad thing apparently. Nobody in Japan is losing out on a university job for being Asian.

iPhone, Siri
barfingclouds··on Prompt engineering
That’s a good point. I remember in elementary school, our librarians were teaching us how to find information online using some really technical search engine. Maybe called like jstor or something else? They hated google and said you can’t properly filter with it the way you could with theirs. But years later I obviously never heard of the previous one again and used google regularly
barfingclouds··on Gemini "duck" demo was not done in realtime or with voice
Tesla will not beat them at self driving simply due to hardware at the very least
barfingclouds··on Sam Altman's sister, Annie Altman, claims Sam has severely abused her
I’m pretty sure he’s been on her podcast, and she’s posted photos of them together
barfingclouds··on Details emerge of surprise board coup that ousted CEO Sam Altman at OpenAI
Sam helped bring a lot of talented people to OpenAI which is a huge accomplishment, even if we assume the worst and that he doesn’t do much day to day work with them.
barfingclouds··on OpenAI board in discussions with Sam Altman to return as CEO
Non profit board therefore for profit investors have no say

I’ve used all 3 a lot. Gpt 4 is definitely better. That being said if I was to rank a close second it would be Claude 2, which I think is really good
barfingclouds··on Detroit wants to be the first big American city to tax land value
Makes sense. I didn’t know taxing didn’t already work that way
barfingclouds··on We are beginning to roll out new voice and image capabilities in ChatGPT
There needs to be an optional button that you hold while speaking and let go when you are done. If button is not held it should auto detect
barfingclouds··on ISPs should not police online speech no matter how awful it is
Yeah this is a fear mongering tactic, and an intentional overreach.

The Nazi bar problem is not even hard in concept. If someone is not a Nazi, let them in. If someone is edgy, let them in. If someone is a Nazi, kick them out. Not rocket science. Nazis will not accumulate if done this way.

But people get looser and looser about their definition of Nazis, which ends up being “people I don’t like or who have different politics agendas than me” and pre emptively kick out tons of people in the name of keeping themselves safe

barfingclouds··on New images and video confirm Austin-made Tesla model Y has cracked front casting
It makes me so happy that Chevy decided to no longer discontinue the Bolt. I’m both poor and currently very happy with my current car (ford cmax). But once this guy’s life is over, I’m looking to a bolt next. Or if Tesla has the rumored Model 2 out by then I’ll consider that as well.
barfingclouds··on Ask vs. Guess Culture

barfingclouds··on OpenAI’s CEO says the age of giant AI models is already over
I suspect this is similar to Xerox with the graphical user interface
barfingclouds··on GPT-4

barfingclouds··on Analysis finds Australia’s inflation being driven by company profits, not wages
Well can’t you observe past behavior with great detail? How would that be soft?
barfingclouds··on Half of Americans now believe that news organizations deliberately mislead them

barfingclouds··on Google exec fired after female boss groped him at drunken bash, suit says
Not an extreme example, but after I started working out more, a female coworker and boss would randomly touch my arms and shoulders when talking to me. Both about double my age.

In my case it didn’t bother me at all, but I just find it funny how little they have to worry about their actions being seen as too far.
