bamboo_7··on Retirement Nomads: Too poor to retire and too young to die
If you're making these sacrifices now, your retirement will be an entirely different experience from someone on Social Security. Also, retirement planning is a luxury. Not all have the means to set anything aside.
bamboo_7··on Half a year later, the Apple Watch feels like a stalled platform
Of course, the original iPhone didn't have GPS nor a camera that could compete with any of the digital ones available at the time. I think the problem is that almost all of the 3rd party apps run very slowly on the iWatch. I _really_ want to know how close my Uber driver is by staring at my wrist, but right now it's no faster than opening my phone.
bamboo_7··on Google introduces 'Customer Match' – target web ads to email addresses
Doesn't mean that at all. Reward program would just be an example of a not-necessarily-web company that has a list of customer emails. Nothing prevents them from adding your email to that list.

The scary thing is this means Google is targeting and following us on an account basis, not just an anonymous advertiser id.

If only there was some universally accepted 'do not track' feature....

bamboo_7··on Altitude has become the defining characteristic of roller coasters
Gigas and Stratas are two different beasts. Despite the height and speed differences, Millenium Force > Top Thrill in my opinion.
bamboo_7··on Student-Loan Refinancing Boom Could Cost U.S. Taxpayers Billions
The article's argument is that only people who qualify with the lender have the opportunity to pay it back. That will remove the successful wealthier debtors and leave the ones more likely to default.
bamboo_7··on Introducing Apple Music
Have you ever used iTunes Radio? I find it to be better than Pandora for connecting and discovering hidden gems that I don't know about. I'm guessing Apple Music will use the same kind of 'genius' information.
bamboo_7··on I'm a liberal professor, and my liberal students terrify me
I think the deeper point isn't just that it will go differently now, but that he has had to adjust his material and teaching style in fear of that bad reaction ruining his career. He points to a few examples of professors who were fired because of a single student's complaint and where universities have removed activities in deference to this outspoken social justice. The shame is that the discussions which should challenge and enrich a student's mind are now being silenced and therein lies to the harm.
bamboo_7··on 10 Tricks to Appear Smart During Meetings
While he's doing that, could you go back a slide for just a second? I didn't get what those numbers meant.
bamboo_7··on Understanding Apple's Wearables Strategy
That's what I thought when I started reading the article, but the author does make a good point about the closeness between Apple & Disney. You have to think there's going to be at least some sharing of lessons learned between the two companies.
bamboo_7··on Introducing Ampersand.js
Great work. This looks like such an easy way to extend the great things that Backbone already does, but in a controlled and simple manner. Can't wait to dive in!
