Looking at the pictures, my best guess is that the maintenance has been an issue for some time.

Spaceship Trooper or Helldiver? :)
b3lvedere··on The Tao of Backup
If bare metal recovery takes shorter time than reinstalling, then you should make bare metal backups. When bare metal updates, so should your backups.

If you're using virtual machines, make sure to backup the hypervisor config and setup as well. You never know which part of the infrastructure starts to fail first.

Is this the same as the infinite monkeys with infinite typewriters eventually writing Shakespeare theory?

They just make it a probable cause. Problem solved for them.

Thank you for your response. No flashing necessary for my setup.
b3lvedere··on I don't want the details
“If your corrective action depends on people remembering a conversation from six months ago, you don't have a corrective action. You have organizational folklore.”

I think i’m going to call our ticket support system “folklore” from now on. It sure is used that way.

b3lvedere··on Samsung accidentally freezes its smart fridges with a software update
What you should have done is install a webcam, connect it to some SuperMarket AI App Api (tm) and supply your credit card info. Now you never have to worry about food anymore. :)

I love being alone. I'm never lonely. Maybe i'm crazy.

Making lots of money protects the children of the shareholders from being poor. Perhaps even their childrens children. Or their childrens childrens children. /s
b3lvedere··on ReBarUEFI: Resizable BAR for almost any UEFI system
"Do I need to flash a new UEFI image on the motherboard, to enable ReBAR on the GPU ? Yes, this is how it works for Turing GPUs (GTX 1600 / RTX 2000)."

Sounds scary. Like there is a good chance to brick the motherboard permanently. I think i'm going to skip this for my ye olde pc with crappy GTX 1660 Ti card. Can't afford a new system.

They all have “some price”, because of universal laws, but i doubt you would be friends with a corporate entity claiming the ip of them.

"The question of whether AI firms can legally use copyrighted material to train AI has no clear answer, but judges have been largely favorable to AI companies’ arguments that training constitutes “fair use.” This legal rule lets people use copyrighted work without permission in certain cases, like parody, news reporting, or criticism. Earlier this month, the Trump administration contributed a brief in defense of OpenAI’s unlicensed use of copyrighted material to train its LLMs. "

So training can make it legal as well. Interesting...

"It is stealing. A human paid for the book, compensated the author and learnt from it."

I went to the library. Didn't pay a cent.

Now what?

b3lvedere··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
“Canada cannot be an EU member (it isn't in Europe)”

I think the construct of geographical location should not be that big of an issue in these times. Plenty of EU countries have overseas properties.

Microsoft CD-ROM cases (jewel cases) were cool. There was this huge red sticker applied on it which said you wil agree to all terms and/or could not refund te product if this sticker was damaged.

Normal human beings had to tore the sticker in order to get the CD-ROM and install Windows, so they automatically 'agreed' to the TOS.

Until it was found out you can actually open a jewel case at the other side by carefully disonnecting the little plastic lids on the other side, thus never damaging the sticker.
