azibi··on Apple iPod Engraver (2019)
And reselling your second-hand, personalized iPod isn't really feasible. So people probably more likely to buy a new one, which likely helped Apple sell more devices.
azibi··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
I really liked my iPhone 12 mini. But Apple also makes a lot of money from app sales, so I wonder if there’s a connection between screen size and app purchases. Maybe users with larger screens spend more time in apps and are therefore more likely to buy apps or make in-app purchases. The more screen real estate people have, the more they might engage with apps, which could translate into higher spending.
azibi··on How does IKEA come up with names for its products?
Fun Dutch observation: IKEA’s ANTILOP high chair sounds like “anti lopen” in Dutch. “lopen” = “to walk” So the name can be interpreted as “anti walking” or “prevents your baby from walking away.” I know it’s actually named after the animal (antelope), but the accidental Dutch wordplay is perfect for a baby chair.

azibi··on Bootc and OSTree: Modernizing Linux System Deployment
We use TorizonOS, which is also based on OSTree: https://www.torizon.io/blog/ota-best-linux-os-image-update-m....

It works quite well for our edge devices. It’s tightly integrated with Toradex hardware, but not limited to it.

It may seems litte a niche, but it has strong potential for long‑term supported edge products. Any additional experiences to share?

azibi··on Coding agents have replaced every framework I used
I see Libraries and frameworks as a way to capture knowledge and best practices so it can be shared with other people. So looking wat a LLM/AI does, it looks to me that this would be a perfect fit. Without the dependeny hell, unresolved github issues, need to fork and leaving maintainers. It could be opensource on steroïdes, with far shorter feedbackloops (just working in your IDE).

The main burden I see is validation of the output and getting reproducable results. As with many AI solutions.

azibi··on Intel Geti is available on GitHub
Intel Geti is part of the Open Edge Platform: a modular platform that simplifies the development, deployment and management of edge and AI applications at scale.

Intel® Geti™ enables anyone to build computer vision AI models in a fraction of the time and with minimal data. The software provides you with a seamless, end-to-end workflow to prepare state-of-the-art computer vision models in minutes.

Key features: - Interactive Model Training - Smart Annotations - Visual Prompting - Multiple Computer Vision Tasks - Task Chaining - Model Evaluation - Production-Ready Models

Seems to me like a promising MLOPS alternative to platforms like Roboflow.

Also worth mentioning bicycle related is the lifework of Sheldon Brown: https://www.sheldonbrown.com

Not fancy looking, but very interesting.

azibi··on Show HN: Visualization tools for bicycle wheelbuilding
Ah, I see now. Only saw first intro movie.

Interesting tool, although I`m not a wheel builder. Its a real craftsmanship ;)

Would be nice if spoke tension is also measured and recorded. Spoke tension is a very important factor building robust wheels.
azibi··on New Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin Robotics Computer
Built on the NVIDIA Ampere architecture, Jetson AGX Orin provides 6x the processing power and maintains form factor and pin compatibility with its predecessor, Jetson AGX Xavier™. It delivers 200 trillion operations per second, similar to that of a GPU-enabled server but in a size that fits in the palm of your hand.
