azaras··on Nobody Profits – George Hotz
I think he speaks of the people with enough money to cover their needs well. Elons Musks, Warrens Buffets and so on...

He is not a moron to think that a boy in a slum has not to worry about money.

azaras··on One year after switching from Java to Go
There are operators written in Java and Rust.
azaras··on Curriculum Vitae of Donald E. Knuth [pdf]
I love him and their spiritual son, Leslie Lamport.
azaras··on Buy Nothing Day
Spain too.
azaras··on Testing for gender differences in Python programming style and quality on GitHub
You are right; it is about interest; women like social sciences, and men like STEMs.

Is this a product of nurture or culture? I don't know.

azaras··on Cheap solar panels are changing the world
A solar punk utopia is near.
azaras··on Guile 3.0.10 now ships with support for parens-optional syntax (wisp)
In practice, it is not so hard. I have been using Python for decades, and there is no problem.

The same is true for YAML, which is not perfect for communicating among machines but is more accessible for human input/output communication. A good pattern is what Kubernetes does; it shows and reads YAML to/from humans and uses JSON and GRPC for proper machine-to-machine communication.

azaras··on A brief interview with JSON creator Douglas Crockford
JSON lack of comments is their worst error.

YAML near the user and JSON for the rest.

azaras··on A skeptic's first contact with Kubernetes
I agree with:

> My opinion is that a large part of Kubernetes' value is derived from just two concepts

I agree with the first one, "control loops," but the second one is "API-based," not "Services."

azaras··on Ask HN: How to deal with vitrolic colleagues in workplace?
> I don't want to contact HR because I know they'll probably fire me when time comes because they love mediocre employees as they can pay less salary to them.

Never contact HR; better is a union.

azaras··on Automate Project Environments with Devbox and Direnv (2023)
Why do not use asdf?
azaras··on Ask HN: Why do message queue-based architectures seem less popular now?
Can you extend it? How do they deploy, and where do they deploy their projects?
azaras··on Podman Desktop 1.8 released: New Kubernetes GUI and manager
How good is it for Kubernetes cluster administration?

I'm used to using kubectl and I don't know if I am losing something with a Gui like this or lens.

azaras··on Permutation City (1994)
I do not remember when I read that I was Richard Stallman's favorite book. Then I read it, and I love it.

I tried to find the citation online, but I found that Richard Stallman does not have a favorite book (https://stallman.org/rms-lifestyle.html); anyway, it is a good book with good ideas to think about.

azaras··on The Speed Project Atacama: The rebel race across a desert
Running is good for your health, but maybe 500 km in a go is excessive.
azaras··on Show HN: Glasskube v0.0.1 Technical Preview for a New Kubernetes Package Manager
Why do not use OLM infrastructure like catalogsources, subscriptions... but for apps?
azaras··on An introduction to temporal logic and how it can be used to analyze concurrency
You are right, that one.
azaras··on An introduction to temporal logic and how it can be used to analyze concurrency
I am also starting to learn, and I don't know if it can be applied to my real problems.

I chose the Lamport learning path. I love that guy and how he thinks and writes. I am reading the book (I bought it in paper, but there is a free version online), watching the video courses, and reading the PlusCal tutorial online.

I enjoy the path and the enlightenment when describing a system with math. Human language has too many ambiguities, very little precision, and is verbose to express some ideas.

azaras··on What Happened to David Graeber?
It is the same with Chomsky, both are anarchists but they know that the change cannot be from neoliberalism to anarchism, you have to pass for more social regimes.
azaras··on AI to hit 40% of jobs and worsen inequality, IMF says
Communism is not about equality but about workers owning the means of production.
azaras··on SolarPunk Cities: Our Last Hope?
It is a good idea to have a narration against the omnipresent and omnipotent capitalism.

It is a kind of substitute for the taboo words anarchism and communism.

I hope a day humanity will be driven by altruism and generosity in place of egoism and greed.

azaras··on Ask HN: What skill do you want to develop or improve in 2024?
1) 1.1. Improve in distributed systems (a. Read: Designing Data Intensive Applications, b. Learn TLA+) 2.1. Observabilibity (a: Read: Systems Performance, b.Learn Graphana, Prometheus...)

2) 2.1. Python stuff, for example, thinks to help with my stocks. 2.2. Sports: gym, running, walking, swimming... 2.3. Reading classic novels. 2.4. Travel with my family.

azaras··on Seven great but notoriously hard-to-finish books
Godel, Escher, Bach is my favorite book, but I never finished it.

I read it 25 years ago, and at one point, I realized that I did not have to continue reading it.

I will try, though.

azaras··on QOwnNotes
I use org-mode in emacs. It is good enough for me.
azaras··on Maelstrom: A workbench for learning distributed systems
To learn Distributed Systems as a Software Engineer, do you recommend beginning with TLA+ or Maelstrom+Jepsen?
azaras··on Gobs of data (2011)
I did not know it, but I think so few changes from the proto-buffer that it is a waste of time.
azaras··on Writing Wohpe (2022)
I like a lot the English version; I would read another novel in that line.

I also like your mindset to write code; redis is an artwork.

azaras··on Life expectancy for men in US falls to 73 – six years less than women, study
Lesser than in Cuba.

Capitalism kills.

Socialism is more productive, with more years of life expectancy with fewer resources.

azaras··on Testosterone parties: the latest Silicon Valley fad
Culture vs Nurture.

Right is explained with nurture, then biological facts have more weight in their explanations.

Left is explained with culture, then cultural facts have more weight.

Anti-femenism, anti-gay, racism, competitiveness... all are explained with biological facts.

azaras··on Show HN: I built an AI language teacher to get you speaking
It is like Quazel but, Quazel is better.
