ayy_lmaoon How to fix your scientific coding errors

The article talks about bugs in code for scientific computations, not how to fix them.

ayy_lmaoon Ten Rules for Negotiating a Job Offer

Maybe a cultural difference considering I'm in Asia but in roughly 1/3 of the follow up interview I've experienced, the HR / manager mentioned there were other motivated candidates. Most of the times it came after I expressed I was hesitant after being low balled hard in term of income.

ayy_lmaoon Ten Rules for Negotiating a Job Offer

And everything crumble down when I've stood my ground against "we have other motivated candidates" and my backup alternatives turned out to be a complete mess upon further inspection, started back pedaling on previously agreed terms (written but not signed), and just simply ghosted me.

Oh well.

ayy_lmaoon The healthiest people in the world don’t go to the gym

The healthiest people are those who don't go to hospital. Hospitals are full of people with health problems.

ayy_lmaoon Show HN: Vim-which-key: Vim port of emacs-which-key

This is nice but I don't see myself using this as vim command are short (at the price of being cryptic to beginners) compared to emacs interminable shortcuts.

A vim version of emacs swiper, now I could definitely use that !

ayy_lmaoon Reboot Your Dreamliner Every 248 Days to Avoid Integer Overflow (2015)

To be honest this isn't quite a big deal. Why would anyone let an airplane running for days continuously.

Just a quick calculation. If it takes 248 days = 248 * 24 * 3600 seconds to go to 1 to 2^32, then the sensors have a sampling time of 5ms so it takes a measurement at a 200Hz frequency. Not related to anything but it's nice to know I guess.

This is quite old news though. I remember it was mentioned in last year's CS50 lecture about integers.

ayy_lmaoon Terry Davis has died

Yeah. His Facebook account was hijacked by someone pretending to be him / created a fake account and added Terry's family members.

Lots of fake screenshots are circulating around, so "proofs" by screenshots of emails are doubtful at most.

The guy who admittedly impressioned Terry on social networks is also known for taking money from Terry's PayPal. (Along with at least another guy who manipulated Terry into giving him $200). He said he did all of this "out of concern for Terry" It's the same guy who first claimed Terry's death on twitter.

He's now in damage control and wiping his internet presence after the infinity Chan crowd is trying to link him to the events.

Lot of disinformation around. Some people refuse to believe Terry's death until confirmed by a third party. Some other are spreading FUD and flood with stuff like "he's dead lads. Let's all forget and move on, shall we?" Some are just trolling around falsifying screenshots and "proofs". And some are just derailing threads to pull down any constructive discussion. And in this shitfest, kiwifarm is avoiding the blame and accuse others and whenever someone point a finger at them.
