aye··on Printing a wall-sized world map and what I've learned from it
Unfortunately not: http://www.dominik-schwarz.net/potpourri/worldmap/#fn4
aye··on A programming language in 450 lines of JavaScript
Sure! You could use a parser generator like Yapps [0] to write a parser for your own programming language.

aye··on Building Good Docker Images
I wish I could upvote this a few times.
aye··on Cursors
The "form a smiley" made me smile. It's pretty neat to see such clear cooperation.

People couldn't keep their hands off the model, though.

Not bad!

Wow, life just got a lot better.
aye··on It's Time for a Four-Day Workweek
Yeah, 4x10 sounds awful -- in fact, working 10 hour days in general sounds awful. I doubt that advocates of a shorter work week have "work the same number of hours, but in a different configuration."

The problem is that even without enough work to go around, people in the U.S. believe that we should be working at minimum 40 hours a week. I think it's going to be really difficult to get people to change that. I can imagine a lot of people staying late or working at home on the weekends to "catch up" with a shortened week.

Maybe it would be easier to start a "9-3" campaign than a "Monday-Thursday" campaign.

aye··on RTFM 0day in iOS apps
That was my thought as well. I'm sure the decision was made to connect as seamlessly as possible, without the user having to stop and click a dial confirmation.
aye··on Cider Project: Run iOS apps on Android
Is it fair to say that Apportable : Objective-C :: Xamarin : C#?
aye··on Cider Project: Run iOS apps on Android
Oh, boy. I was seriously addicted to EyeLord for a little while. If I want to build an Obj-C app for Android, is https://github.com/apportable/NDKSignalTest a good place to start?

aye··on Poll: What is your #1 productivity killer?
The grass is always greener -- I hate going to the same office every day.
aye··on Show HN: PojoViz – Visualize the structure of any JavaScript library, framework
Sure! I chose extjs -- it's a pretty big framework, so that may have something to do with it.
aye··on The Matasano Crypto Challenges
Thanks for bringing this back! I've been wanting to study crypto, and I usually enjoy @tpacek's comments on this site.
aye··on Show HN: PojoViz – Visualize the structure of any JavaScript library, framework
Whew, maybe I'm just thick, but it took me four tries to select a library, export the global, and all I see is "uncaught exception: error getting the key".
aye··on The sad state of Linux Wi-Fi
Great idea. I keep a folder full of Markdown files that I push to a Bitbucket wiki.
aye··on The sad state of Linux Wi-Fi

Perfectly sums up my feelings about NetworkManager.

aye··on Organic Lawn Care For the Cheap and Lazy
I was hoping that the answer would be "get a flock of sheep and turn 'em loose!"
aye··on Apple Teams Up With IBM for Enterprise Push
> On hardware that is near top-of-the-line and thus poorly supported.

Haha, there's got to be a name for that paradox: you want to run Linux on your brand new computer, but the hardware isn't well supported.

Do you:

a) Settle for a Linux install that sometimes does weird things (on my Lenovo Yoga 2, I have to close the laptop lid and re-open it to get the computer to come back from suspend properly).

b) Settle for Windows 8?

Unless you've got the time to write your own device drivers, the MBA is the most "rational" choice for a new laptop. (IBM pun not intended.)

aye··on Apple Teams Up With IBM for Enterprise Push
Yup, either RHEL or OpenSUSE should fit quite well into the culture.
aye··on Yhat Sciencebox
Awesome! The "get an email when your job has finished" takes me back to the days of True BASIC on the Dartmouth time-sharing system.
aye··on Facebook Slingshot – A new way to share photos and videos
This is more about about promoting sharing as a cultural behavior than making money on this particular product. By incentivizing sharing, companies end up with more personal information. It forces lurkers to participate (some might argue that's a good thing).

The service forces you to pay for content with your own content, whereas before the payment was implicit, or at least invisible -- as long as you were in the store, you consented to being monitored.

aye··on Ask HN: How do I know if the startup I'm working at is dysfunctional?
You're definitely that good. I hear you, and I know exactly how this feels.

I've worked for two companies in the past year and a half, both with teams of ~5-10 developers, and nobody at either company was/is using any sort of automated tests. It's definitely frustrating -- not to mention lonely -- especially when you're immersed in a culture (hello HN) that's pimping a new test runner every two weeks.

I like testing for one and a half reasons: to capture the software requirements, and to change the software easily when those requirements change. If you've got one test, that's better than zero.

You don't have to set up your own Jenkins server -- Travis CI should do the trick nicely, and it's super easy to set up (although I know you're not supposed to say that kind of thing).

Here's a thought: Could you persuade the CTO to let you add the tests as a submodule to the project repo?

aye··on ARST ARSW: Star Wars sorted alphabetically
Wrong movie -- you're thinking of The Empire Strikes Back.
aye··on Lenovo, the Treasure Hunter of Tech
I use a Yoga Pro 2 as my work laptop, and it has -- by far -- the worst trackpad I've ever used. You have to push hard to get that thing to click.

I have a quasi-conspiracy theory that Lenovo made the trackpad so difficult as a way to nudge consumers towards the touchscreen (the Yoga 2 is a touchscreen/laptop hybrid).

aye··on Make Your Own Grid Paper
Not to mention the fact that they do a terrible idea conveying what they're actually selling -- there's nothing that says simply "it's grey paper with white lines."

"On Whitelines there is no visual interference between the lines and the pen colour."

So, the lines on the paper are different depending on the color of the ink I'm writing with?
