I‘d love for that to be true like all of us, but isn't the first paragraph contradicting the title?

> Ukraine-Russia war: China denies Russian request for aid

> The spokesperson for China's embassy in Washington responded to media reports on Sunday that Moscow had asked Beijing for military equipment since launching its invasion of Ukraine by saying, "I've never heard of that."

???

axiosgunnar··on Is 30s too late as a first time founder? (never done anything biz related)
Anything below 30 is too young actually, yes some 20yo founders succeed, but being 30+ and thus more mature derisks the entire operation.
axiosgunnar··on Telegram Cooperates with FSB (Rus)
Lol isn't Asbmil the one with the legendary fall of 2021 tweet saying „US intel is trying to fool you all, Russia will never invade, idiots“?

Also, if the „western narrative“ is one of condemning the most blatant international military aggression since WWII for the gain of a handful of oligarch… I guess I am pro-Western then.

I really can't see any reason to subscribe to any other narrative here.

The two sides are completely unequal.

axiosgunnar··on Telegram Cooperates with FSB (Rus)
Note that over half of those channels are blatantly pro-Putin
axiosgunnar··on Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine Is Redrawing the Geopolitics of Space - ISS
Hi, I am not American, so I don't understand why you are bringing that country up?

The Rwandan government (since we're pointing out random countries misdeeds to apparently „excuse“ the Russin invasion?) did a genocide once, too!

axiosgunnar··on Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine Is Redrawing the Geopolitics of Space - ISS
I find ambushing another country and killing thousands rather concerning and in some ways quite petty.
axiosgunnar··on Ask HN: Neutral DNS servers?
Note that even Switzerland could not stay neutral this time and enacted severe sanctions against Russia.

Maybe staying neutral has the higher cost to a free society (and thus „information wanting to be free“) in the long term?

Curious, what is then?
axiosgunnar··on Ask HN: What happens if TSMC is destroyed?
Immediately deck yourself with all the electronics you might need over the next decade, and then some. It would get really nasty.
axiosgunnar··on Statement concerning the war.ukraine.ua website – Hetzner
Handled correctly by Hetzner PR IMO.

Might have finished up with a "we have donated xx,xxx € to Ukrainian relief efforts" but luckily that would be drops in the ocean of donations anyways.

As a Latvian:

What the actual fuck?

Are we your serfs to pass around like property?

Stop adjusting to Putin‘s ridiculously displaced Overton window.

axiosgunnar··on Russia admits Conscripts fighting in Ukraine, despite Putin's previous Denials
I think the only rational way to communicate with the Russian political elite is to assume everything is a lie and only look at hard facts like the actions taken, the incentives at play etc., kind of like in those game-theory experiments, where you cannot trust your counterpart but have to interact with him.

Hilarious really, if it weren't for people dying.

axiosgunnar··on Roskomsvoboda statement on foreign companies’ sanctions against Russians [pdf]
I am afraid of Russia.

Who isn't afraid of a corrupt super-oligarch that seems to have the authority to kill tens of thousands at a whim with his nation-state army and doesn't answer to nobody?

Nevermind the nuclear button!

I think being a Russophobe is the only rational stance.

axiosgunnar··on China's state media buys Meta ads pushing Russia's line on war
Why can China even buy ads on Facebook, a website they have banned?

So they are allowed to push their narrative onto Westerners, but the inverse is not allowed?

axiosgunnar··on 21y ex Ukrainian math olympiad team member killed by Russian shelling of Charkiv
What would have happened if every Ukrainian wired all his money to Putin and signed contracts that they're his slaves now?

After all, Putin can move with impunity, because if we do anything, he nukes everyone, and the anwser to the margin-nuke question „Should we really start a nuclear armageddon for X?“ is always no, even if it‘s progressing from „Ukraine“ to „Romania“, „Italy“, „remaining EU countries“, „NYC“, „Washington State“, „Southern half of US states“, etc.

From a game-theoretical POV, any nuclear power is allowed to do anything as long as the marginal anything they are currently doing is small enough.

axiosgunnar··on Some lives are more valuable than others
Westerners dying is more relevant to Westerners, just as Arabs dying would be more relevant to Arabs.

Let's move on to the next outrage, please.

axiosgunnar··on Prediction that Kyiv falls to Russian forces by April 2022 goes from 90% to 26%
> and it won't end ASAP if Russians suddenly have a non-absurd reason to defend their land.

This is an important point. This is why we should keep reiterating to the Russian people that the sanctions are not to spite them and will be revoked immediately if Putin is gone.

axiosgunnar··on RT challenges EU ban at Europe's second top court
And how do you find it?

Note that I found the English-speaking RT to be surprisingly neutral on the topic of the war, including the phrases used. Yes, they call it a „special military operation“ and not a war, but the articles could have been from the BBC or the DW. Their op-eds were 4chan tier pro-Putin rants though.

However, Russian-language Russian state media such as Russia24 (vesti.ru) or similar (which I can only consume through Google translate but I believe Google to be fairly good here) are completely pure pro-Putin rants, not just the op-eds. They're cherrypicking topics, being very one-sided and over-all give the feeling of living in a completely different universe.

Curious to see somebody else‘s opinion.

axiosgunnar··on Z (Military Symbol)
Exactly
axiosgunnar··on Z (Military Symbol)
Laws of war refer to the patch on the shoulder, nothing else. Otherwise it would be completely up to interpretation if somebody is part of a nation state's armed forces.

> Isn't this style of beard typically worn more by Ukrainians than Russians?

> Does this guys have a "Z" meaning he's a Russian soldier? Or is it civilian fan of World War Z?

etc

axiosgunnar··on Z (Military Symbol)
Since the most seen sign of those is the "Z", meaning the "Eastern Military District", does that mean Putin is sending "non-slavic" Eastern Russians (Mongolian etc) to be slaughtered in Ukraine? How racist...
