There are, but they were working mostly for internal market. Their brand recognition is not good with the western audience. But now with the electric cars - it is a brand new thing, so the chinese brands can try to push in the western markets.

Yep. It is a pretty useless device if you cannot hold it in your hand and unlock it. So for example, when I ride my bike I can pause the music or receive a call and not much else.

I still have one or two of Buffalo routers with DD-WRT lying around. I think I installed it manually though. They were good value for the money.

Poor eastern-European countries cannot compete easily for investments. Bad infrastructure, brain drain, small working population, judicial system, etc. Taxes is one of few things that they can use to attract investors.

From the last 2-3 years:

Web site for my sailing adventures. I upload a gps track, images, text. It parses the track, paints it on a map.

Small, android, no frills app for calling http backends, that arranges the calls in tiles. For very basic home automation.

A lot of non-AI, small bots for personal use. For example a bot that notifies in a group chat when a member did a new bike ride. Also collect stats so we can compare :)

Several tools for some games that I play.

I used to write everything in Java, but recent years more and more stuff is JS with Node. And more recently Go in the backend.

Well, just use cookies. It's simple as that. As markusw, I also don't use HTMX. I tried it, but for me it is faster to use the fetch API. My basic stack is go html templates, chi router and sqlite.

The whole Balkans are doing better and better in tech. Bulgaria and Romania have good startup scene and unicorns, Serbia seems to be doing good, Greece is catching up nicely. The brain drain mentioned in the comments is a problem of course, but at least in tech is not so big, even reversing.

O no. I absolutely agree with the GP. I was fine with every windows after and including XP. Until I received a company laptop with win 11. I have a big fat list of things that are super annoying or bugs.

PowerToys Run is even slower than the Windows start menu. And I have disabled a half of the plugins including file and folder search.

Telegram group chats cannot be encrypted AFAIK. This would probably be a show stopper for a lot of companies.

Trello is fine, I think Atlassian acquired it some time ago.

https://imgur.com/a/Lzf4qzX This is a bike I bought 2005 for about 180 euros. And I still use it today as a city bike. The picture is from around 2013 after I did some upgrades - second hand hydraulic brakes, new cassette, chain, etc.

A personal rant. 15 years ago middle of the road mountain bike could be bought for around 200 euros. Now similar class mtb is more like 600+ euros. Bicycle tires cost about the same as my car tires. This is turning into a rich-man hobby.
