avh02··on Passkeys were invented by engineers with zero understanding of consumer brain
Technically i would think so too, but is that how it's implemented? (I legit don't know, but my feeling was always that you had to add them while they're present, especially as there's different passkeys for different sites, to do it offline do you pregenerate 100 keys for each device to assign later?)
avh02··on Passkeys were invented by engineers with zero understanding of consumer brain
The problem here is i want to have more than 1 yubikey, so if i lose it, all is not lost... I can't do that with the current implementations unless i present N yubikeys to every new account i make. Which makes an off-site backup yubikey impossible. With my current yubikey usage with password store, my "offline" yubikey can be brought in whenever i want to decrypt the passwords, including ones inserted while the key was in storage.

Also yubikeys have limited passkey slots (100, 25 with old firmware)

avh02··on Tell HN: MitID, Denmark's digital ID, was down
nah, i generally agree with you on single points of failure, i just don't agree that it would go on as long as 2 weeks. 24-48 hours i can believe, but at the absolute worst case I'd also expect anyone with minimal competence to have a plan to spin things up from the latest offsite backup somewhere else. (minimal competence is a big statement though). Even redundant setups can go down altogether from a fatfinger or automation gone wrong (see almost any outage from FAANG)

> stop a solar-storm

never heard of those taking out a data center, but i'm not highly educated on that one.

> A war on infrastructure

government datacenter will be first in line for fuel, generators, etc. A destroyed gov. datacenter would be the start of much more serious things to worry about.

> Just look at the Berlin outage where people had to go to hotpots

yeah, this one _is_ a little embarassing, but people who have to go to hotspots != datacenters

The original statement stands.

avh02··on Tell HN: MitID, Denmark's digital ID, was down
yeah, everyone knows every European website is eventually down for 2 weeks. only the FAANG know how to keep websites up.
avh02··on IDF killed Gaza aid workers at point blank range in 2025 massacre: Report
Cool, now justify the things happening in the west bank. Israel so peaceful, coexists with neighbors.
avh02··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
well now you can have both simultaneously.
avh02··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
so many left-leaning politicians on fox news /s

when do they get the kind reminder?

avh02··on US plans online portal to bypass content bans in Europe and elsewhere
is that really the point? you don't see the rest of it all as a little... disturbing?
avh02··on Pebble Production: February Update
I still wish other smart watches behaved like a pebble, the interface was so intuitive you could use it to do the basics without looking at it most of the time.

It's like trying something so good it ruins every other one for you. The UX was just so well thought through i don't know how to explain it.

avh02··on I made 20 GDPR deletion requests. 12 were ignored
Then don't violate it, you won't get fined.

was talking to a friend about this, there's wero but i haven't really seen it around (Germany).

avh02··on European lawmakers suspend U.S. trade deal
Yes yes there's not a single soldier in all of Europe. Every soldier, tank, and airplane is American. No other military technology exists. America great.

Seriously, I'll grant the most advanced stuff is American but you really think everybody else only has sticks, stones, and water pistols?

avh02··on De-dollarization: Is the US dollar losing its dominance? (2025)
This is about way more than a few tariffs. Think Venezuela, think madman jizzing over the idea of invading greenland, or just throwing tantrums on an international scale.
avh02··on The chess bot on Delta Air Lines will destroy you (2024) [video]
Tall people don't choose their height, fat people (mostly) choose their weight.

Edit: also, if the airline can't deal with a certain percentile of the population under their normal product, they should figure out how to make it happen. It's discrimination to not account for tall people

Until the chain of incompetence slowly gets replaced top down by bootlickers and the military degrades over the years.
avh02··on I migrated to an almost all-EU stack and saved 500€ per year
ah yes, the polish that keeps begging you to give them your address for your "own safety"

the polish that can't even delete your entire spam folder half the time

the polish that asks you to verify you own your own email address via email if you want to add an alias to send an email from your own domain (e.g: if you have wildcard inbox and want to reply from one of the addresses you used)

the same polish that gives you no results if you search "one" and the email actually contains "oneword" - you know, search, the thing google is known for.

such amazing polish.

avh02··on Airbus to migrate critical apps to a sovereign Euro cloud
They've done great with those Epstein files. Totally published everything./s
avh02··on Airbus to migrate critical apps to a sovereign Euro cloud
Been given aid*, they didn't rob your banks.
avh02··on Airbus to migrate critical apps to a sovereign Euro cloud
On a very small personal/hobby level: backblaze (which i like as a company) lost my business, moved stuff over to a European company. I'm not a multi million dollar business but I've started to do what i can.

Would have loved to visit the US and see all the things it has to offer, but absolutely not planning to in this climate. I think the US is currently at billions lost in just Canadian tourism?

avh02··on The EU made Apple adopt new Wi-Fi standards, and now Android can support AirDrop
probably offset by travellers hauling less proprietary cables with them on holidays/business trips/commutes, i now travel with basically one cable to charge almost every device

yes, this is a little tongue in cheek, but i do appreciate the standardization around USB-C

edit: people need to just admit their lives got better with this forced change. (this is not a reply to you, general observation)

avh02··on France threatens GrapheneOS with arrests / server seizure for refusing backdoors

actually i think those that have the most beef with israel are very much in the region.
avh02··on First recording of a dying human brain shows waves similar to memory flashbacks (2022)
Had the same experience, what scared the crap out of me is that feeling of not even knowing you're out is how some people spend their last moment.

Not just in surgery for example but in extreme other situations (nukes, titan sub, piano to the head, etc)... You're just there then you aren't and you don't even know. Shook me (lightly) for a while

avh02··on Israel demanded Google and Amazon use secret 'wink' to sidestep legal orders
> How can an independent state "infringe on the laws of other countries"?

you don't live on earth, do you?

avh02··on Israel demanded Google and Amazon use secret 'wink' to sidestep legal orders
it doesn't matter what it does, why it's there, or how often it's used because: 1) skirts the law, 2) infringes on the laws of other countries, and finally 3) it's just so dodgy you have to be asking yourself wtf is going on.
avh02··on Tesla is at risk of losing subsidies in Korea over widespread battery failures
