attendant3446··on The new Firefox design is here
Why would anyone use a proprietary browser in 2026?
attendant3446··on Canada welcomes EU proposal to become 'associate member'
It's all over the news, but nobody really knows what an 'associate member' of the EU is
attendant3446··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
Just showing documents? I never saw a bank that will do this. They always make a copy.
attendant3446··on I refused to train the AI that could replace me
True, but those skills should be in an open-source model, not in a pseudo-open AI. That's a significant condition for me.
attendant3446··on Live map of public transport in Belgium
I remember how the "live map" for public transport in Berlin was actually a map with where the transport should be, not where it actually was. At least that was the case a couple of years ago with VBB =)
attendant3446··on Nvidia's Jensen Huang says 'AGI has arrived' and congratulates OpenAI
"Having failed to achieve what they wanted, they pretended that they wanted what they had achieved."
attendant3446··on Ask HN: What are the viable alternatives to DuckDuckGo?
My default browsing habits are in incognito mode. I only open normal browser for websites where I want a persistent session. I haven't noticed the "bubblification" with DDG. And I actually find DDG AI answers helpful (sometimes).
attendant3446··on Ask HN: What are the viable alternatives to DuckDuckGo?
StartPage doesn't only block VPN access, but also "regular" connections. And what's worse, it doesn't ask to solve some captcha, but blocks you completely and only shows the form where you can say why you think they are wrong.
attendant3446··on Do I belong in tech anymore?
I'm going through something similar. All the symptoms described in the article are present in the company where I work. But I don't blame AI. AI is just a tool. I blame the company culture, because it's the source of those problems.
attendant3446··on Finland looks to introduce Australia-style ban on social media
For starters, not sending a notification "he is now using this app!" to everyone who has my phone number.
attendant3446··on Finland looks to introduce Australia-style ban on social media
Tbh, anything that is not a proprietary closed garden. Why access to the clubs/interest groups now requires to compromise the privacy?
attendant3446··on Android’s desktop interface leaks
I don't get your point. Are you saying that Apple can sell more specialized iPhones?

But that's exactly what is the problem with modern Apple - software is shit. It's limited on purpose, so that the users are forced to buy more Apple devices. So no, they don't need to sell more iPhones, they need to make their software better, so it won't be like a cult where you need to keep buying a bunch of different devices. But then they won't get easy money from the followers, so they will never do this.

attendant3446··on Finland looks to introduce Australia-style ban on social media
But why does it always have to be a mobile app?
attendant3446··on Finland looks to introduce Australia-style ban on social media
I'm a bit glad that it's no longer Facebook groups. But WhatsApp is also disappointing. I have to keep an account on my 'throwaway' phone for junk apps just to communicate with those groups and clubs. And usually WhatsApp is the only way with them.
attendant3446··on Android’s desktop interface leaks
What is Apple doing to blur the line between desktop and mobile? Is it the abomination they call iPadOS? It's a joke, it's nothing more than iOS+.

They've made it perfectly clear that they want to keep desktop and mobile separate in order to convince their customers to buy all their devices.

attendant3446··on Deutsche Telekom is throttling the internet
I didn't say there are none at all. And I've heard that internet from small internet providers can actually be good.

But after living in 3 different apartments there, I never had a luxury to be able to connect the internet from a small provider. Their coverage is very, very limited. So it always was Telekom/Vodafone/o2.

attendant3446··on Deutsche Telekom is throttling the internet
My experience was slightly different. I mean, yes, there pretty much no 'non crappy' German internet providers, but nothing was as bad as Vodafone.
attendant3446··on Confer – End to end encrypted AI chat
It's not perfect simply because it's a mobile-first app. That's Signal's main problem.
attendant3446··on I doubt that anything resembling genuine AGI is within reach of current AI tools
Oh, I didn't mean the term "Artificial Intelligence" itself. I was talking about referring to what we have now as "AI".
attendant3446··on Kidnapped by Deutsche Bahn
I was in a similar situation in Egypt once. At the specified time a train arrives, I board it. Only to see that my seat is occupied. We started to discuss the situation and the other passenger showed me his ticket - it was one of the previous delayed trains. We figured it just in time for me to jump out of the wrong train before it left the station :)
attendant3446··on I doubt that anything resembling genuine AGI is within reach of current AI tools
The term "AI" didn't make sense from the beginning, but I guess it sounded cool and that's why everything is "AI" now. And I doubt it will change, regardless of its correctness.
attendant3446··on Valve is running Apple's playbook in reverse
To be honest, I've never had any issues with 'Platinum' games on Proton. But I somewhat agree, starting with 'Gold' and below, it was a hit-or-miss situation.
attendant3446··on Framework Sponsors CachyOS
I've been using CachyOS with Plasma desktop for a long time now. Including my gaming PC. Zero problems. But I don't play any online games.
attendant3446··on Don't throw away your old PC–it makes a better NAS than anything you can buy
The problem with Synology type NAS is that they still treat you like a product. If you go this way, you have to accept the limitations. Or you have to do everything yourself.
attendant3446··on Louvre to hike ticket prices for most non-EU tourists by 45%
They can still save 'Louvre' in 1Password =). Using strong passwords is a matter of mindset, not software.
attendant3446··on Gnome is better macOS than macOS
Personally, I'm in a KDE camp. GNOME was never my cup of tea. But I completely agree that the Linux DE surpassed Windows/Mac some time ago. While Windows enshitified and MacOS stagnated, Linux on desktop kept evolving. And even though I've used Windows and Mac for a long time before fully switching to Linux, I now can't go back.
attendant3446··on PHP 8.5
I'm glad it's not just me who finds the syntax of some of the new PHP features confusing and complicated. And it's not just this version either, they keep adding weird "sugar" in each new release.
attendant3446··on GitHub: Git operation failures
We use gitlab.com at work, and it's noticeably bad. Parts of it go down monthly, or sometimes even weekly.
attendant3446··on Valve is about to win the console generation
They announced 3 devices. 3! HL3 confirmed :D
attendant3446··on Firefox profiles: Private, focused spaces for all the ways you browse
Profiles were in Firefox for a long time now. It looks like they finally have made a proper UI for it.
