assimpleaspossi··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.

assimpleaspossi··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
I don't understand. What does this have to do with HN, the typical topics, and the typical users who come here?
assimpleaspossi··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
Because the only sources in the article are non-CIA but claim they are CIA. The article is of little value if I have to search around the internet looking up information. And the sources in the articles are sources I have never heard of before which makes me suspicious. The whole thing has an odor to it.
assimpleaspossi··on Homebrew 7.0.0
Yes. Thank you. The link text gives the impression that is the front page and I didn't notice. I'm sure a lot of people don't notice which is the issue I'm trying to point out.
assimpleaspossi··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
If the CIA didn't publish this, then how can one say there are no state secrets? How can one say they obtained the same conclusion without knowing the CIA's conclusion?
assimpleaspossi··on Homebrew 7.0.0
So how does one install postgresql on a Mac?
assimpleaspossi··on Homebrew 7.0.0
So Mac doesn't have a package manager?
assimpleaspossi··on Homebrew 7.0.0
I did. If you actually read what I wrote you would see that I read it.
assimpleaspossi··on Homebrew 7.0.0
That doesn't make sense. Why do I need Homebrew to install the command line tools of macOS on macOS? Doesn't macOS already have them installed? Same for Linux, etc.
assimpleaspossi··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
I see a ton of links to other unauthorized sources--most people I've never heard of--who claim to have inside CIA documentation.
assimpleaspossi··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
How does he know what the CIA's model says? How did he get this inside information? And shouldn't he now have a warrant out for his arrest for obtaining such a thing?
assimpleaspossi··on FreeBSD 14.5-Release
For production, yes, use RELEASE.
assimpleaspossi··on OpenBSD Stories: Strange Medieval Devices
The site is using an obsolete version of XHTML. So it's probably using out of date other things, too, and not targeting phones.

EDIT: I just checked. There are 77 HTML errors and warnings alone.

assimpleaspossi··on AMD Based FreeBSD Desktop Reloaded
FreeBSD, as an OS, does not change that much. It's not hard to keep up. That's why it's such a solid OS. The main web site lists any changes or additions with each release.

https://www.freebsd.org/releases/

But you are running 16-CURRENT, which is the development branch not suitable for production or daily use. Is that why you are struggling?

assimpleaspossi··on California lawmakers unanimously pass Linux exemption from age-verification law
I remember the good ol' days when our parents told us what we could and could not use or buy. If Johnny's parents let them do something, Johnny's parents would get admonished for it and we just wouldn't see Johnny anymore.
assimpleaspossi··on Run OpenBSD on DigitalOcean for $4/month
RamNode does $2/month but just one ipv6 address. Add a ipv4 address and it's $4/month.
assimpleaspossi··on Georgia police officers fired after Flock camera misuse
I will stop when HN stops allowing anti-police posts and threads. Not to mention anti-Trump and other irrelevant posts.

I'm just going to log off forever. This is the only social outfit I belong to but I see no need for this anymore either.

assimpleaspossi··on Georgia police officers fired after Flock camera misuse
You'll never gain traction with your post on social internet forums like this despite the reality and truth of it. You'll be downvoted to quiet and eliminate your opinion.
assimpleaspossi··on The Gargantuan Lie That Is Collapsing the Climate
And there it is
assimpleaspossi··on The Gargantuan Lie That Is Collapsing the Climate
Which shows how badly the popular media cover hard news. "Social justice" is all the rage now thrown together with anything else that's exciting to watch on video.
assimpleaspossi··on Taste Is All That's Left
One part of the answer is marketing it to people looking for an easy way out without having to do the work or thinking at all. There's value in that as shown in everything like things for the home that purport to make your daily life easier. LLMs market themselves in much the same way
assimpleaspossi··on We finally learned to center a div, then browsers added sidebars
You have an out of place script element at the end.
assimpleaspossi··on You don't need React: creating a minimal UI library in Vanilla JavaScript
I ran a web dev company for decades. There are two web sites we created I would bet money you have visited so we weren't a small, one-off shop. We had never seen the need or desire to use React. We couldn't understand why anyone else would use it either. It was too big and too complicated versus just using the fundamental elements of programming for the web. So there.
assimpleaspossi··on ICE Collected Nearly 1M People's DNA Last Year–Including Young Children
The same process we've used for centuries? You got something better? I'm sure you don't. You are also ignoring that the 12 random schmoes are selected by both sides attorneys and given instructions and facts and can still be overruled by a judge (under circumstances) plus the possibility of appeal.

Your response is very uninformed at best.

assimpleaspossi··on ICE Collected Nearly 1M People's DNA Last Year–Including Young Children
Remember that one still needs proof. My DNA on a victim's clothes does not mean I committed the crime.
assimpleaspossi··on Software for One
Almost $2000 a year is beyond ridiculous and would make me question the author's ability to write software on his own (but I'd get downvoted for insulting him or not realizing some kind of time savings they help with).

I spend $2/month on my VPS, write my code in HTML/CSS/Javascript with Posgresql along with other Unix (FreeBSD) tools and the standard languages and get similar things done.

assimpleaspossi··on Show HN: I worked on a new browser for 2 years, today it passed Acid 3
Exactly. It's meaningless now and I stopped looking at it a few years before 2017 when I ran a Web dev shop
assimpleaspossi··on How JPEG works: Interactively explore JPEG's lossy compression methods
I made the most discoveries of solutions to my work in that drive home.
assimpleaspossi··on The Cold Email
I started to write my story here along the same lines. Perhaps more along the lines of don't be afraid to ask. Almost every job I got, and they've mostly been pretty fantastic, I got cause I called and ask for it. I was told some of those jobs just weren't available or impossible to get but I called and got them. One job the manager wasn't even thinking about it till I called but I got him thinking about it and he hired me. Two impossible to get jobs I got cause the secretary left her desk for a moment and the manager answered the phone instead. I got two half hour interviews in prime time for someone and his business cause I called someone and asked for it.

It never hurt to ask.

assimpleaspossi··on Half-Life ported to Mac OS 9
I get cranky coming to HN and seeing 3/4 of the posts about games.
