assimpleaspossi··on Utah to let AI examine patients and prescribe medication without human oversight
If it works out anything like AI helping with the settings on my new phone, they're in a world of trouble.
assimpleaspossi··on Why don't more developers “use the platform”?
The box-sizing property is another way of calculating element sizes but not the default way or the only way. Those of us who were adept at calculating the area sizes after years of doing so had no need for it. Those who are new to the game or can't figure it out use box-sizing.

And don't call me Shirley

assimpleaspossi··on Why don't more developers “use the platform”?
I find that developers add a CSS reset without thinking about it as if there is always a need. We never used resets. There was never a need. Typically we would set something according to the design anyway and starting with a reset was like slamming something against one wall only to throw it back to a different wall later.
assimpleaspossi··on FTL: A new operating system for clouds
I'm old enough but didn't get it. Though I was into Unix at the time, I never looked at Linux till 2004.

I did recognize it when it was brought up here but not before.

assimpleaspossi··on FLUX 3 Image
But I don't use it or need it and wasted my time trying to figure out what it did. Clarity should be up front.
assimpleaspossi··on How our vibe coded website looks like a designer made it
26 info warnings though I'm impressed there are no up front errors but the warnings are of potential problems. It's the same blunder I see many people who don't read the standards don't understand or bother with until it actually becomes a problem. But AI learned from them. That's why the problem exists within AI, too.

assimpleaspossi··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
I visit two subs every day and get banned from both of them maybe three times a year. I am an expert in one area and experienced in the other. I typically respond only to outrageous responses to someone who asked a seemingly innocent question. Because I disagreed with the majority I typically get my karma down so low that my comments aren't showing or, last week, I was banned altogether.

No. I'm not nasty or disrespectful. I just disagree and give the reasons why.

I try to be helpful but I no longer care. I only glance at the titles in case something new shows up. I don't want to sound like I'm bragging but, as I said, I'm an expert in one area and experienced in the other and reddit users lose that. I know others feel the same way and never go there. I wish I wouldn't.

assimpleaspossi··on I switched to Brave
In my case, I find it doesn't matter to me or, often, anyone I know. So the conclusion becomes I don't care and my only concern is if it is useful to me.

It's also why I avoid almost all social platforms and, if I land on one accidentally, I look at headlines alone--rarely the comments.

Oh! Damn it!

assimpleaspossi··on One Month Without AI
>>after you've corrected them to get them on track

They all still insist on serving bash code for FreeBSD where bash is not native. I've had to correct them all this whole year and they apologize profusely but, the next time, still use bash.

Note: you can install and run bash on FreeBSD. It's just not in the base installation or usage and I do not use it there.

Please don't reference that pit of doom for anything.
assimpleaspossi··on HomelabFest will be in St. Louis in September 2027
Your remark has nothing to do with the technical merit of this event. Your remark only has to do with his personal life and such comments have no place here (in my opinion).
assimpleaspossi··on HomelabFest will be in St. Louis in September 2027
Totally agree. These responses I expect to see on reddit alone and why I stopped viewing reddit years ago.
assimpleaspossi··on One Month Without AI
I find it strange to see people writing articles like this as if everyone has used AI for decades. I've programmed for decades. I thought I retired three years ago but got an offer I couldn't refuse. Already there were little things I'd forgotten how to use.

Over the past six months I tried using Claude, chatgpt, Grok and Gemini. At best I got reminders of how things worked. People online say they use them to write their code. The code they supplied to me has NEVER worked or was so convoluted that I threw it away and did it myself.

At most, I use these tools as search engines. Even then some references are poor.

I'm starting to think this is becoming a sad, sad world and AI is just the new TV of the programming world.

assimpleaspossi··on I don't want the details
What can be done, when writing an article, to not stumble during reading when an unknown abbreviation such as SVP occurs?
assimpleaspossi··on George Lucas Returns to Earth, Bearing Gifts
I'm told Chicago screwed themselves on that
assimpleaspossi··on George Lucas Returns to Earth, Bearing Gifts
My son used to wait on him at a restaurant in Chicago when he came by to visit his now wife. My son, being a professional actor, had to use his best skills to treat him as just another customer
assimpleaspossi··on OpenJev
I had to re-read a few times to figure out what the site was for and about. Still not sure I understand but that's the problem for them. If I'm a customer, I'm gone cause I can't figure out what it's for and I see this far too often nowadays for a lot of technical sites.
assimpleaspossi··on AI 'kill switch' may need to be mandatory, Anthropic co-founder tells BBC
>>The whole point is that you don’t have a plug to pull

There will always be a plug to pull. All systems run on electric and that plug can be pulled. All systems network through cables (or wifi) and those plugs can be pulled.

And nothing's going to stop you from doing so unless they build some robotic arm to block you or lock you out of the building. Even then, you can blow up the building.

assimpleaspossi··on AI 'kill switch' may need to be mandatory, Anthropic co-founder tells BBC
He's not talking about a kill switch. He's saying to just pull the plug. That's the point I don't get. People forget that all these AI things are plugged into a power source or network connection that someone can just yank on and it goes down.

Now one interesting proposition is when AI is controlling some large resource and pulling the plug makes AI go down which makes that resource go down but there still has to be that consideration in the design of things. What happens when there's a bug in the code and AI goes down?

assimpleaspossi··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.

I don't understand. What does this have to do with HN, the typical topics, and the typical users who come here?
assimpleaspossi··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
Because the only sources in the article are non-CIA but claim they are CIA. The article is of little value if I have to search around the internet looking up information. And the sources in the articles are sources I have never heard of before which makes me suspicious. The whole thing has an odor to it.
assimpleaspossi··on Homebrew 7.0.0
Yes. Thank you. The link text gives the impression that is the front page and I didn't notice. I'm sure a lot of people don't notice which is the issue I'm trying to point out.
assimpleaspossi··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
If the CIA didn't publish this, then how can one say there are no state secrets? How can one say they obtained the same conclusion without knowing the CIA's conclusion?

I did. If you actually read what I wrote you would see that I read it.
assimpleaspossi··on Homebrew 7.0.0
That doesn't make sense. Why do I need Homebrew to install the command line tools of macOS on macOS? Doesn't macOS already have them installed? Same for Linux, etc.
assimpleaspossi··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
I see a ton of links to other unauthorized sources--most people I've never heard of--who claim to have inside CIA documentation.
assimpleaspossi··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
How does he know what the CIA's model says? How did he get this inside information? And shouldn't he now have a warrant out for his arrest for obtaining such a thing?
