ashbrahma··on Level 3 outbid Akamai on Netflix by reselling stolen bandwidth
Level 3 found itself in Comcast's shoes back in 2005. They felt that Cogent Communications unfairly taxed its network and made the exact same argument that Comcast is making today, and even temporarily pulled the plug on its connection to Cogent, cutting off some parts of the Internet for millions of Cogent customers.

ashbrahma··on ‘Angry Birds’ Developer: “We Will Not Use Chillingo Again”
It's easy to say this after the game has taken off. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to make your game successful after the coding is complete. Ex:Marketing/Distribution strategy. Also, publishers have access to a large base of audience that they can quickly reach out to when a new game launches.

I would compare it to record labels in the music industry. They see a lot of artists and pick a few and hope one is a winner...

ashbrahma··on Chillingo Acquired for $20 Million by Electronic Arts
A publisher is someone who aggregates titles from smaller developers and helps market/distribute the application. Chillingo/others like them usually have had some success with apps before and are able to reach out to their massive base as soon as a game is released to enable the apps to rise through rankings faster. Also, developers who live in countries where the app store is not available are able to work with publishers to get their apps distributed across the world.
