At least discord doesn't just paywall content you created yourself like Slack does. I have seen dozens of slack servers where entire channels are scrubbed of information because they are on the free plan and hit the 10k messages limit.
I've been using Fastmail and I'm very happy with their service. It's affordable, the calendar is great and you have ton of control when using your own domain.
Google has zero perseverance when it comes to product development. The video game industry is very mature with cutthroat competition; you can't enter it with a few billions thinking you can make an impact in a year or two. They should have spent the money buying an existing publisher/developer.
It's not just those categories that are producing low quality SERPs, almost any niche you can imagine is being assaulted using weaponized SEO because content marketing has become the competitive advantage of many organisations and part of the default toolkit of any site team.
Don't feel bad about leaving a bad workplace, you really don't owe them to fix their broken practices.
I'm glad that you found a silver lining in your terrible experience by connecting more with your family. Unhealthy workplaces really tend to distort our priorities in life.
It can take years to rebound from a very stressful period. I'm sure this is what I experienced years ago when I quit a very stressful and generally bad job. Just years of not feeling particularly interested in anything, being alienated, etc.
Society forcing people to behave in a certain way is a fundamental aspect of any and all civilizations. At certain points, you rights have to give way for the collective good, especially when people's lives are at stake.
I can't even begin to imagine how difficult this must be for the both of you. It must be terrifying having a loved one trying to commit suicide. I hope your wife and you find peace and happiness.
As always when mega corps are involved we have to at least entertain the idea that their employees and agents come out in full force to defend the actions of the corp. Anything else would be dangerously naive.
This touches on something very difficult when it comes to families: if you are lucky you end up with one that gives you a happy childhood. If you're super lucky that same family turn out to be the most supportive and fun people in you adult life. Most people simply aren't that super lucky, mostly because it actually requires lots and lots of conscience work across generations.
I haven't checked the figures put forward here but anything that encourages the industry to improve site performance - and an indirect result of these efforts seems to do just that - is greatly welcomed. Now when you want to argue against the embedding of another framework/library and the usual performance reasons don't cut it, just say it's about sustainable design.
Hilarious. I can't think of an Olympics that I've seen so little of simply because I rarely watch TV anymore and copyright strikes have severely limited even short clips from the Olympics around the net.
> Google’s reported willingness to put up with Suleyman's behavior stands in stark contrast to its swift termination of Timnit Gebru and Margaret Mitchell, former co-leads of its AI ethics team who produced research that challenged the company’s direction on large language models.
Suleyman is a sociopath who makes Google money - that's why he was promoted and rewarded for his sociopathy.
Dude, your writings - Sean Parker's rape of a teen girl, RIM's implosion, Keigo Oyamada's extreme bullying - are like a rabbit hole of everyday horror.
Those additional services are important to diversify their revenue streams AND they offer people basic solutions from a reliable provider like Mozilla. If anything, they should expand to offering more digital services under the umbrella of Firefox.
You do realize that without designers and tons of other people, there is no one to do the actual user research, UI, UX or general design work? Who would do this work?
At least for now, you should consider a persistent overlay that explains that Esc breaks out of view mode and releases control over the mouse. Not being able to use the mouse as you usually do is very unpleasant.
I really like these fun alternatives to ordinary web sites even though the UX designer in me is having a heart attack because of the countless usability and accessability issues
