As for which editor/IDE to use, Visual Studio Code is a decent and free text editor with tons of plugins. Then there's always a proper IDE like Webstorm by JetBrains that offers much more functionality and convience out of the box.
They also have a major problem with not listening to their very loyal desktop developers, who have to face a reality where Visual Basic is rendered obsoletely, where .net core is a thing - ops no it's not, etc.
[0] the list of software built using Electron is insane https://www.electronjs.org/apps
No sane business is going to use a random dev with a total custom e-commerce solution when they could throw a couple of dollars at shopify each month and get 100x the value.

Amazing content is a goodmine and very powerful marketing and I'm surprised when major companies don't get that you need dedicated professionals to create killer content and not random freelancers who churn out trite crap.
Why was the consultant/dev even allowed to pick React for what sounds like a Microsoft shop most familiar with desktop development? It's the responsibility of the consultant to suggest the most suitable tech stack, not go along whatever idea the client CxO has conjured up in his mind or whatever tool they tinker with for their personal projects.
Microsoft has a robust ecosystem for developing web apps, and I'm pretty sure the most sane thing would have been migrating to a .net based web framework and not React. Even a cursory talk with the customers outsurcing partner would probably have confirmed this. Instead, a poorly understood tool was used that the outsurcing partner has little to no experience with.
