I know I’m not alone as someone who’s bothered by the postscript, but too lazy to do anything but delete it every time. There’s even an entire (well part of) song about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbdeVhPAbms

"So far global warming hasn't caused catastrophic damage to our crop outputs, looks like everything's working out great!"
That being said, the person I was responding to was trying to understand what negative views someone could have on Mamdani's policies, so I was trying to give a data point.
- Rent freezes do not seem to work. When he ran on that position I did look up briefly to see if there was any recent publications that reversed the previous consensus that they don't work, but didn't find much.
- State run stores are pretty bad at their jobs. Someone on here mentioned state run liquor stores as an example of where state run stores work, but in my experience, they are the opposite. I suspect that the store will work well for the first several years, while there is a lot of media attention on it, but when it falls from the foreground, the oversight will slacken and it will go the way of many other of these projects.
- I am not an expert but I suspect the wealth tax won't work the way they hope.
On the other hand, the attention that he's bringing to issues that were previously swept under the rug (like transportation) is great, and the way he energizes the populace is amazing.
The solution is to not wear them as long, especially right after a shower or the like, when there is extra moisture in your ear.
Alternatively you can put alcohol in your ears to kill the bacteria, sort of like you’d do with mouthwash. Any pharmacy will sell over the counter ear drops with alcohol, meant for drying out swimmers ear. You’d have to keep doing it once every week or two, but it would keep the infection away.
Incidentally, the author's choice makes for a much more interesting puzzle than the one you would have them use (IMO)--yours would be indistinguishable from a puzzle written on a cylinder.

It's the reddit website that freezes me out, nothing to do with the OS.

... and instead drive one of the motors, generating electricity to power the other motor to push the car forward.
I feel like that video you're mentioning did a poor job if it didn't describe one of the more important and clever aspects of the Prius's design.
Interesting, thanks.
> In our theoretical aircraft with batteries, mass is the same.
The fuel that's expended during cruise reduces the mass.
Also, PE = mgh is probably an not a great formula for energy cost of takeoff/go-around, as there are probably large costs it ignores (gravity loss, less efficient engine use, maybe less efficient turbines?).
For your source 2 I have no rebuttal so will have to defer to you, but would ask for an explanation.
If you're recharging the batteries for extra go-arounds during landing, they are as dead weight as the fuel you would otherwise reserve for that purpose. And if you have 30% more efficient engines, meaning less fuel and smaller engines, it's possible you could come out ahead, weight-wise.
> what if you need two go-arounds
I assume that a go-around requires less sustained power output than a full climb from takeoff, so you will probably get more than one go-around anyway, and we don't know how much over-capacity they're designing for. In any case, any design will require tradeoffs in safety, and having more engine-out capabilities might improve safety enough to overcome the higher risk with go-arounds.
Not saying this project is will work out or that you're even wrong necessarily (this could be the equivalent of a concept car for Pratt & Whitney).

Off topic, but that’s actually my biggest pet peeve vim. You copy text one place to overwrite some other text, you delete the existing text and they you go to paste and… the buffer has been overwritten. It makes so much more sense to require users to hit the obvious, composable ‘yd’ in the cases they want to copy than an arcane incantation in the cases they want to overwrite text.
Seems like he should be recommending fearless_simd [1], the Rust crate by Raph Levian and the folks at Linebender :)
More seriously, if you’re looking to add SIMD to your Rust code, that’s the package to start with.
So my verdict is that AI-only anime is still not there yet (although it would be cool to have a world where one dedicated and talented artist could make a high quality anime). But at the same time, anime studios will probably start incorporating AI into their workflow, getting high-quality-looking scenes for very cheap.
I mean, has pay gone up in other fields where AI has taken over a lot of jobs?
In any case, I think the reason pay is awful in anime is the same reason as in gamedev: if people get into it for passion, the companies can pay less and still have employees.
