ardacinar··on Data points that Facebook uses to target ads
Another targeting mistake is by language. On Facebbok, My profile includes Swedish, Italian and Dutch as languages I know. I've seen ads in those languages even though the products aren't even close to available for me (Though the ads are kinda memorable, especially the Postnord ad that I ran into for about 100 times, I wonder how much ad money they spent solely on me)
ardacinar··on Platform wars: the final score
Google Chrome? Although the market effects are very debatable in web browsers.
ardacinar··on The Nightmare of Replacing a Battery on a Mac Laptop
Sales Tax/VAT is probably the bigger reason, though.
ardacinar··on Is college worth the cost? Many recent graduates don’t think so
I'm not an American, and at first I thought the "leisure studies" major was just sarcasm(similar to Kaldirim Muhendisligi, i.e. Sidewalk Engineering in Turkish), then I googled it, and I am completely baffled that it is actually a thing.
ardacinar··on Ending the open office epidemic
You're probably one of the outliers, then.
ardacinar··on If net neutrality falls, what happens next?
Türkie might be a misspelling of Türkei (German) or Türkiye ( Turkish).
ardacinar··on The Curious Case of iPhone 6+ 1080p Display
The alternative talked about here is not having the physical screen resolution of 2208x1242 but rather just rendering at 1080p without scaling down.
ardacinar··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
Are you sure about Northern Europe? I live in Sweden and I haven't encountered anything like that here. (They are common in Finland, though)
ardacinar··on Google’s Public DNS intercepted in Turkey
Turk Telekom is not state-owned, not for the last 8 years or so.
ardacinar··on If The Moon Was Only 1 Pixel
shift + scroll wheel works okay, but really, it should have been scrolling vertically. horizontal scrolling doesn't really add anything to the site but inconvenience for the viewer.
ardacinar··on A birthday present from Broadcom
unless it's CVS, or god forbid, Visual SourceSafe.
ardacinar··on Numbers That Explain Why Facebook Acquired WhatsApp
I think the most important of those numbers is the last one, 0 marketing/pr budget. I've seen ads for viber and line on tv/newspapers etc. and the ads immediately discredited those services for me, as in, if they had enough cash to broadcast TV ads in Turkey(I live there), they were probably handing my data over to anyone for cash, probably (and quite a few of my friends thought similarly). So, for such a service, having no ads/pr might actually be more beneficial.
ardacinar··on PEP 8 Modernisation
"something like VIM, with a great editor, but subpar compatibility with the rest of your system"

Excuse me, but vim has much better compatibility/interoperability with the rest of my system than all the IDEs written in Java.

ardacinar··on Amazon stops selling Sim City V over game issues
I think SimCity 2000 was considered abandonware, or was it only the first SimCity game? I'm not really sure about it. But the first 4 games are definitely playable without any internet connection whatsoever.
ardacinar··on Halo Creator Unveils Its Next Masterpiece, a Persistent Online World
Wait, what? Game development seemed like the most stressful/worst thing you can do in software, i'd never expect game developers to make less than average developer.
ardacinar··on I'd like to use the web my way, thank you very much Quora
The desktop version basically begs you to login with facebook or google account. Sign up with email is a much smaller link. Basically, the site screams "We need your data so much! We're begging for your data! It's our only monetization scheme" and if someone is that desperate for your personal data, chances are they're not going to do good things with it.
