archonis··on Modern Object Pascal Introduction for Programmers
Fruity Loops is written in Delphi. There was a period in time where because of this, the company said there would never be a Mac version, but eventually one happened with the help of ObjectPascal.
archonis··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
>> People don't understand that cigarettes are self-limiting because they literally hurt your throat and lungs. Most people simply can't chain smoke and they need about an hour break in between smokes.

That wildly contradicts the experience of every cigarette smoker I've known across several generations.

Good thing they don't apply the same standards to security sandboxes.

We really need super impeachment.
archonis··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
If someone made a table of one hundred potential targets and rolled ten ten sided dice to pick a row to target, do we blame the decision on the dice, the table, Wizards of the Coast, or the person who decided this was a good way to choose targets?
archonis··on Sublime Text Build 4213
General issue, have observed it on multiple systems. On a long enough timescale, will grow to farcical amounts of memory usage.

Unfortunately, while this is something I've observed through major point releases and on different platforms, there have always been some plugins in use.

UnUnfortunately not enough commonality in configuration or hours in the day to track down if this would happen on a totally clean install...

I'm sure your roadmap is quite extensive, but it would be great if sublime itself could graph or warn when memory usage increased by some specified percentage, or if any particular plugin spikes resource usage.

archonis··on Sublime Text Build 4213
How long did you leave your test running?

Was it sustained use with files open over days / weeks?

(I've been a sublime user for well over a decade, across multiple platforms. Thanks for the downvote.)

archonis··on Sublime Text Build 4213
Flipside, sublime's memory management leaves much to be desired.
archonis··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
If you run said software, yes.

If somebody else runs the software, then they are.

archonis··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
The trick is scale. I suspect if an individual of reasonable means uses agents to commit crime, they will be hels accountable. A heavily capitalized startup? Not unless someone in government decides to do their competition a favor.
archonis··on OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems
Regulatory capture is a strategy. It doesn't hurt existing competitors at scale, but it greatly peanalizes newer underfinanced competition.

Not exactly a billionaire.
archonis··on Psychoactive substances helped spur Andean civilization
Reconciling the profound interiority of the experience with a mere external catalyst can be quite challenging.

Consider the question yourself next time you are in the throes of an exoerience and see how hard it is to maintain objectivity...

That's purely because it's usage is accepted nearly as a default, and drug in common usage is most often a pejorative term if it doesn't refer to a medicinal context.

Most people who use drug as a pejorative term also wouldn't use it to describe caffeine.

archonis··on The Cretan Method
Perhaps this is because it's meant as an oversimplification to demonstrate, but the grounding section seems so oversimplified as to be useless to an adult.

Rest of the piece was quite good.

archonis··on Apple is no longer thinking different
They just don't have the stomache to support anything new for the required gestation period. We aren't going to get anything truely new or useful until companies stop prematurely compreasing their margins so much that they squeeze out the customer as well.

archonis··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
>> and the feds having it out for a whole class of people

Are you suggesting this is not happening with the goverment suddenly criminilizing the status of legal immigrants? (this is in addition to enforcing laws against illegal aliens)

archonis··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
That was a reference to a Bryan Cantril speech, and it's more about the lawnmower's ability to gravely harm your person without having any intent or feeling beyond doing what a lawnmower does.
archonis··on Ganon's Mysterious Origins (Revisited)
Before that he was just Jumpman rescuing a damsel from a kong that couldn't be called king for intellectual property reasons, and the genesis of a gorilla being involved at all was nintendo's loss of the popeye license.

He didn't become Mario until there was a two player sewer themed game requiring names for the protagonist plumber brothers.

The bit about Journey to the West was the most germaine bit of the article. The Kayman Rider stuff just seemed like wild speculation.

It is fascinating just how much of Japanese pop culture carries deep (and shallow) references to Journey to the West.

Don't fall for his scare tactics on this one. They do not have resources to pull off having ice interfere in elections at scale.

There will be fuckery, and the election will not be fair, but any sort of steal will happen after votes happen.

Consicely put, and not nearly present enough in contemporary discourse.

archonis··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
Looks interesting and serves a real need. However, pricing tiers seem a bit steep, especially for folks who don't need the build step to happen on the host.

Also, at least according to the docs, ssh cert based authentication and password based authentication, but no support for public key based authentication?

What a user insulting horrible bad faith attempt at a hot take on the issue.
