archimedespi··on Lavender in whisky (2011)
Yep, just found that out the hard way :)
archimedespi··on The FCC Might Ban Specific Operating Systems
> This is already present insofar as hardware requirements in radios - radios cannot be permitted to listen on frequencies reserved for cell phones, and must not be restricted in such way as they can be easily modified to enable it (e.g., a header/jumper). This really just extends this requirement that it is non-trivial to enable illegal broadcasting or reception on software defined radios.

Cough, cough, HackRF(https://greatscottgadgets.com/hackrf/) + GNURadio(http://gnuradio.org/) don't seem to have these limitations.

archimedespi··on Show HN: Hacker News Simulator
I think "Google to announce proof of Ikea's excellence" wins.
archimedespi··on Show HN: Hacker News Simulator
I wish I could upvote this post multiple times.
archimedespi··on Show HN: Hacker News Simulator
Am I the only person who removed the `news.` from news.ycombniator.com to see if there was a parody of Y Combinator's main site?

Another hilarious title: "Ask HN: Worst examples of really creative ways to combat late payments". This sounds like an real post on HN, and actually makes sense.

Or maybe "Swift Language Will Instantly Know Everything About the Origin of 'The World's Dumbest Idea': Milton Friedman".

archimedespi··on Show HN: Hacker News Simulator
The titles suddenly got a lot better! Less grammatical errors. One of my favorites is "Hosted Continuous Integration Using Gradle, Android Studio And New York Times, Evernote, Gmail, and Quicksilver".

That is a CI solution I'd love to see :)

archimedespi··on AWS US East is experiencing high error rates on several services
Reddit is down right now with a 503 - they're on AWS.
archimedespi··on The sad state of web app deployment
I heartily agree with a successor to Docker being the way forward - Docker is large and embroiled in lots of "ooh cool look at this shiny thing".
archimedespi··on Google Is 2B Lines of Code, All in One Place
At least you don't ever really need to defragment ext4, unlike NTFS.
archimedespi··on Lisp implementation in sed
When the Lisp in Make post hit the front page of HN earlier today, I was astonished. This has topped that experience of WTF/disbelief, which I thought previously impossible :D
archimedespi··on The HTTP TTY
I'm so sick of people wanting to package literally everything as a Docker container. That assumes:

- You're running Linux (or have access to a Linux box)

- The box running Linux is x86_64

- You have a modern kernel set up

- The box has a bunch of ram

- The box has a bunch of disk space (for installing Docker)

Docker forces you to have modern Intel-based hardware. Which excludes people with stuff like the Novena[1] or an old Thinkpad (because 32bits).

archimedespi··on The HTTP TTY
HTTPie looks awesome, thanks for the tip!
archimedespi··on The HTTP TTY
I think it's a mac thing, at least partially - no lag on Windows running Chrome or Linux running Firefox.
archimedespi··on Who Invests in Hardware Startups?
Quite a few hardware startups have gained a (sometimes large) portion of their series-A funding through Kickstarter or similar platforms.
archimedespi··on Lisp in Your Language
Or maybe they were using a reader program which didn't display images, or they were reading HN on Lynx :)
archimedespi··on The Sound of Code [video]
Hah, had a lot of fun listening to those. Some of them sound a bit like some digital rf modes.
archimedespi··on Ask HN: What is the best recommended domain name registration site?
Just don't use GoDaddy. Just NO. They've been way overcharging people forever, and their services suck. The two registrars I'd recommend are Namecheap and Google Domains.

Yes, Namecheap's site is slow. But their support has been great and they're cheap. (also they have really cheap $1/year whois privacy)

Google Domains is nice too, almost everything is $12/year.

archimedespi··on Proposal for a Go Interpreter
I didn't see anything odd either.
archimedespi··on Alda: A music programming language
This is awesome, I've dreamed about something like this for a long time. Cool that it's done in Clojure too :)
archimedespi··on Procedural Dungeon Generation Algorithm
http://tinykeep.com/dungen/ _was_ the source of the figures in the article, AFAIK.
archimedespi··on Will there be a Distributed HTTP?
An open-source, cheap AFM: http://hackaday.com/2015/01/13/cheap-diy-microscope-sees-ind...
archimedespi··on The xkcd survey
This I would like to see, for the laughs.
archimedespi··on A native hypervisor is coming to OpenBSD
That's quite true, except that even OpenBSD is not _necessarily_ secure as a hypervisor.
archimedespi··on Updates Make Windows 7 and 8 Spy on You Like Windows 10
You sort of can, see things like https://github.com/10se1ucgo/DisableWinTracking/.
archimedespi··on Updates Make Windows 7 and 8 Spy on You Like Windows 10
Is there any tool like DisableWinTracking for Windows 7?
archimedespi··on “Two days ago the police came to me and wanted me to stop working on this”
> Apple will patch them just like other security flaws

With the condition that you have to upgrade to the very latest system :)

archimedespi··on Ask HN: I've been asked if I'd like to give up my GitHub name
> Attempts to sell, buy, or solicit other forms of payment in exchange for account names are prohibited and may result in permanent account suspension.

archimedespi··on Ask HN: Would you read a book about emulation?
Yes, I would love a book about emulation!
archimedespi··on Ask HN: What does the percentage next to posts mean?
I don't see them either.
