arcanon··on Go Replaces Interface{} with 'Any'
Ball is in your court now typescript-on-the-serverside ppl!
arcanon··on Ask HN: Why would a city on Mars avoid Armageddon?
Mars city is irrelevant. What matters is self sustaining spaceships.
arcanon··on Ask HN: Is discrimination to promote diversity okay?
Just become an anon and join a DAO. Problem solved.
arcanon··on Can mRNA Vaccines Defeat Herpes?
Super excited for the second sexual revolution after we cure STDs
arcanon··on Kia EV6 Smashes Tesla's World Record
The Great Men behind Tesla were named Tom Gage and Alan Cocconi
arcanon··on Where is Ruby Headed in 2021?
The year is 2021.

People argue for a toolchain that takes a static language, compiles it to a dynamic one, then runs it with an interpreter on the server side.

Humanity ended shortly thereafter.

arcanon··on Etsy’s Journey to TypeScript
The gen z people I know think webdev is a joke. They’re off playing with unreal engine blueprints and shaders and stuff.

TS on the serverside is an abomination. Just learn a real language like Go or hey Java.

arcanon··on Is there such a thing as good taste?
I disagree with Paul when he weakened his argument from perfect to good taste. There are some artists who have more control over details than others. By perfect you would be able to perfectly recreate the reality of the subject/scene.
arcanon··on Will the climate crisis force America to reconsider nuclear power?
And it would seem our survival depends on its continued exponential growth if we are going to avoid our temp targets.
arcanon··on Scripting languages of the future
The scripting languages of the future I see more in things like Unreal Blueprints.

Meanwhile webdevs reinvent things from 40 years ago and struggle to build 2D form apps.

arcanon··on Ask HN: Is it worth it to invest in learning TypeScript?
It seems to me that there is a divide of angular typescript apps that are about 3-5 years old and a new wave of react flow apps. Wonder what the stats are.
arcanon··on Ask HN: Is it worth it to invest in learning TypeScript?
Right, they just wouldn’t use it themselves.
arcanon··on Ask HN: Is it worth it to invest in learning TypeScript?
I agree in general except what you said about MIT ppl. I find them to be the humble ones, ironically.

arcanon··on Ask HN: Is it worth it to invest in learning TypeScript?
Thats weird, the best ppl in JS seem to be tearing TS out due to compile time/toolchain perf problems.

Do you have any large typescript projects?

arcanon··on Ask HN: Is it worth it to invest in learning TypeScript?
Agree with this. Ppl can make a mess inside their typesystem specs esp. when making their code interface with others on a large project. Adhoc types that are just bloat. Etc.

Has anyone else had multiple years of experience with typescript in prod or what?

arcanon··on Ask HN: Is it worth it to invest in learning TypeScript?
But the node core devs have moved on to deno. They also recently ripped out their TS code. Skate to where the puck will be.
arcanon··on Ask HN: Is it worth it to invest in learning TypeScript?
How so? Coffeescript was mostly absorbed by JS, a true success story. The cutting edge JS ppl are moving away from TS right now, at least some of the ones I follow on twitter seem to be over it. OP might be on to something, not wanting to waste time chasing trend n-1
arcanon··on China says it will hold supporters of Taiwan's independence responsible for life
They also use execution vans. They will come to you!
arcanon··on Ask HN: Will Ruby Get a Comeback?
Has someone created rubyscript or typed ruby yet? I need a good lol.
arcanon··on Ask HN: What you up to? (Who doesn't want to be hired?)
Yeah. I can’t understand the counterpoint to getting PhDs. Do you not want to find out how the world actually is? It’s a never ending quest too.
arcanon··on Facebook Stole Our Name and Livelihood
They should launch their product and steal it back?
arcanon··on People prefer friendliness, trustworthiness in teammates over skill competency
I’ve also seen being tall and/or having a confusingly deep voice work well too…

Bs aside, its best to have ppl publicly demo what they’ve built regularly. Quickly incentivizes the dialogue to not be about political favors and instead to be about whats gotten done.

arcanon··on Ask HN: What's the Point of Life?
I thought organisms reproduce because they get horny, they typically don’t get philosophical about it.
arcanon··on Ask HN: What excites you today (technologically speaking)?
CO2 capture is of interest; I mean Im interested in the survival of the species, think others here are too.
arcanon··on The Shocking Immaturity of JavaScript
Does anyone else think it’s weird that trivial syntax/typesystem frameworks get very popular whereas things that actually move tech forward, like new apis/webgpu dont get much hype? Maybe it just seems this way. I mean how many ways can we come up with to watch ppl struggle to build 2D form applications?
arcanon··on Tesla’s Texas Move Is Latest Sign of California Losing Tech Grip
Exactly, this political drama is advertising. Truck will hit next year and true Texans will buy it, prolly will throw in that dont mess belt buckle..
arcanon··on Tesla’s headquarters will move to Austin
If I were a republican in tx I would be thinking about how to gerrymander this new population of blue voters.
arcanon··on Can Nuclear Fusion Put the Brakes on Climate Change?
It’s not unlimited power, it’s unlimited fuel.

The hype is coming from REBCO tape magnets which aren’t in ITER. Many consider ITER to already be obsolete.

This is like how computers used to take up whole rooms in the 50s but later could sit in the corner. Fusion takes up whole buildings (ITER) but the MIT ppl proved a magnet so that it can fit in just a room.

As our magnets get stronger the tokamaks can get smaller. Room sized tokamak is manageable for commercialization. Commonwealth Fusion Systems has a pretty clear path it seems.

arcanon··on Can Nuclear Fusion Put the Brakes on Climate Change?
No, Fusion can not put the brakes on climate change. It is the best long term option for generating heat, but the problem is not about what we add, but instead about what we remove.

Carbon Capture is what will matter. Carbon taxes are an interesting attempt at political solutions, but this requires coordination between Russia, CCP, and the USA. We need something that can be done despite what other foreign powers can be made to do, lest we want to wage WW3 over this.

Carbon Capture is also proportionately underfunded compared to renewables. Global warming is not something that will stop when we stop being bad; it has momentum. Greenhouse gases are like a blanket we’ve been wrapping around ourselves. We have to unwrap to get back to normal: carbon capture.
