RE: deep fakes, in a few years a movie director will be able to say to his editor: "increase Tom Cruise's rage and facial contortions in this scene by 50%"
arcadeparade··on 5000 years ago Sahara was a green landscape with lakes and rivers
it was a conspiratorial youtube video but the narrator sounded like a real straight shooter.
arcadeparade··on Alan Turing to be the face of new £50 note
That might be the reality but who knows what history will say.
arcadeparade··on 5000 years ago Sahara was a green landscape with lakes and rivers
Even just 500 years ago most of the Sahara was green.
arcadeparade··on Alan Turing to be the face of new £50 note
At the moment you are correct but if things work out with Korea he could be remembered, rightly or wrongly as the person who started a new path.
arcadeparade··on The Loneliness Epidemic
You're not thinking on a long enough timescale. Hunter gatherers only worked 10 hours a week :)
arcadeparade··on 210k-year-old skull in Greece is earliest sign of modern humans in Europe, Asia
It was an ancient museum.
arcadeparade··on Why Are We Still So Fat?
Apparently even animals such as monkeys and rats kept in labs and fed the same calories under controlled conditions are fatter than the same animals fed the same decades ago. Xenoestrogens?
arcadeparade··on Ask HN: What companies are currently using VR/AR for commercial purposes?
Architects
arcadeparade··on Ask HN: I'm depressed, what should I do?
Cold showers are good if you can't sleep. Maybe get checked for low testosterone if you are having symptoms.
arcadeparade··on Soylent halts sales of its powder as customers keep getting sick
Read on Twitter a while ago about a guy who ate almost nothing but Soylent for two months and started getting joint pain and trembling, and was falling over a lot. Then there was a comment by someone on Reddit who started having seizures and anxiety and blamed Soylent. Seems crazy that people are just eating nothing but this stuff for months on end and not thinking about the consequences.
arcadeparade··on Soylent halts sales of its powder as customers keep getting sick
The prion disease rumours circulating on Twitter about Soylent are really disturbing.
arcadeparade··on Nootropics
I took Modafinil for a year after reading Gwern, 100mg twice a week on average. It relieves a lot of anxiety for me and also acted as a great appetite suppresant, but I also worry it has caused me some cognitive decline. I feel like a bit of a zombie sometimes, kind of dead emotionally, not talking as much, feeling generally dumber. Can't say for sure as I've had a lot of stress in the last few months too, but people should be very careful with these things.
arcadeparade··on Plugging in Kindle is crashing Windows 10 after summer update
I noticed my laptop fan running louder and longer until I finally updated to Windows 10. Now the fan is silent. Psychological warfare by Microsoft? Surprised more people aren't talking about this.

arcadeparade··on Scientists Find Form of Crispr Gene Editing with New Capabilities
An evil person could do many things, like target ethnic groups based on their genetic haplogroup with an infection similar to the one currently being tested to eliminate mosquitoes, making all of their ancestors infertile in a few generations without their knowledge. In the future we could see something similar to the arms race, a sort of cyborg race with governments rushing to come up with way to make cryptographic DNA or mind transfers to protect their citizens from genetic terrorists.
arcadeparade··on Mosul dam engineers warn it could fail at any time, killing 1M people
Is it because of the coming snow melt? Or just time is running out?
arcadeparade··on SpaceX launch webcast: Orbcomm-2 Mission [video]
Or a farmer. Guess I'll have to wait until Mars is ready for ploughing :)
arcadeparade··on Paris Shootings and Explosions Kill Over 100, Police Say
Inferior is subjective. Different groups have different traits. Not an insane point of view, but definitely one that is politically incorrect, for now: https://jaymans.wordpress.com/hbd-fundamentals/ Of course we are all human beings equally deserving of compassion, no matter what our differences, but the equality myth that we are all born the same and all have the same chances of having equal outcomes in life, is a very dangerous one that is destroying the social pacts modern Europe was built on.
arcadeparade··on Paris Shootings and Explosions Kill Over 100, Police Say
Australia wasn't built on multiculturalism. The native culture was destroyed and Australia was built on its ruins.

They also carry their religion, genes and culture. And with that comes a clash of civilisations. With open gates: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=cb0_1447249820
arcadeparade··on Ireland to 'decriminalise' small amounts of drugs for personal use
God is dead, paedophile priests, neighbouring cultural hegemons and cheap credit have killed him.
arcadeparade··on How for-profit prisons have become the biggest lobby no one is talking about
If they were paid based on lowering recidivism rates, for-profit prisons could potentially work very well.
arcadeparade··on Ask HN: What are you doing to improve your health?
Stronglifts is also great because they have a very good app, which was so helpful for me in keeping consistent, which is the most important part of training I had difficulty with.
