Or: what do you use?
Unless they are in this space competing against k8s, it’s reasonable for them if they want to use Helm charts, to move where they can.
Also, Helm doesn’t work with ECS, so doesn’t <50 other tools and tech from the CNCF map>.
The title says the market is in danger of going out of existence, and the article solely mentions a handful of big US companies AFAICT.
Or maybe it's a dig at Europe for having large parts of its market dominated by US companies, and I'm missing that.
Title is "Europe Is in Danger of Regulating Its Tech Market Out of Existence".
But then the subtitle says "Poorly designed laws are forcing *global firms* to leave." (emphasis mine)
Then you see a picture of an Apple Vision Pro. I've only skimmed through the article and there are 11 mentions of Apple and 12 mentions of Meta, then some mentions of X and such. These aren't even "global" firms, they are all American ones.
If anything, it sounds like they may be regulating away US products from the European market, and that's a big "maybe", which is different from what I understood from the title they chose.
Windows is the platform, CrowdStrike makes a product on this platform and their users willingly install, accept all the security prompts and use it. Short of Apple-style locking users out of their own devices, there is little they can do here.
I'm not well-versed in Windows enough to be able to tell if they provide better ways and safe APIs to achieve what CrowdStrike does, but even if they did, there is no telling if CrowdStrike or anyone else would use that or not.
> but I feel that good OS should prevent a 3rd party app to cause such damage
It does? It also allows the owner of the machine to bypass those preventions, which is what CrowdStrike seem to require for their product to function.
I think the "OS should protect me from myself" is a very iPad-style expectation from computers. Personally I'm happy there are OSes that don't work this way.
> Would it happen on Linux?
$ modprobe crap-mod
I guess it would.
To be able to come up with a solution you’d first need to be aware of a problem, which in many such cases you wouldn’t be, until one day you are banned and lose all your accounts, and solutions in hindsight won’t help with that.
I don't know if it was me misconfiguring it, or if the images in post were really cherry-picked.
Anyway, let’s say he was negatively affected by that relationship, IIRC.
Reminds me a bit of this: https://www.uniladtech.com/news/ai/man-married-hologram-no-l... , up to you if you find people developing strong feelings to inanimate objects that can’t care less, dystopic or not.
I don’t fully recall the ending but doesn’t the AI grow past the guy and “break up” with him, leaving him devastated at the end?
A bit sounds like the Replika AI drama from the last year. </SPOILER>
I feel clickbaited.
Meta likely has the most apps and most users of any one VR platform. Sure everyone needs apps, but they needs apps the least, especially from Play Store.
Unless you see using phone apps as 90" virtual screens as a killer feature at least.
> All apps listed on alternative app marketplaces are submitted to a Notarization process with Apple. Notarization is a baseline review that applies to all apps, regardless of their distribution channel, focused on platform policies for security and privacy and to maintain device integrity. Through a combination of automated checks and human review, Notarization helps ensure apps are free of known malware, viruses, or other security threats, function as promised, and don’t expose users to egregious fraud. Apple does not enforce the App Store's high standards for business practices and content on apps distributed through alternative app marketplaces.
So what I understand is that it's a baseline check for security, technical issues etc. Content moderation doesn't seem to be a part of it.
Alternative stores OTOH have a lot more promise, if Apple can't manage to kill them through malicious compliance. They have a lower barrier of entry, and most downsides of JB don't apply either.
I assume there will be a few more soon, though Apple still pushes for notarization and such, making things difficult for the lone hacker developing for fun. So I don't expect as many apps as once cydia had.
It's pretty cool that I can play Chrono Trigger and Pokemon FireRed Rocket Edition on the go though :) I'd love to see Epic bringing Fortnite to AltStore out of spite. :D
At least that's what happened for me, worth a try.
Okay except that one time playing COMPOUND. By accident I moved the analog stick to the left while turning my head to the right, and the image moving the opposite of what I expected made me feel bad. I finished the level there, and then had to go rest for a couple of minutes and stop playing VR for the day.
tl;dr for some people it almost never happens, until it does.
I mean I personally know people who rarely interact with others other than work, and do weird things like playing with electronics and games all day, mostly just for fun and not for profit. They are often happy as they are, I'm sure many of them are on this very website.
Your sister sounds a bit like the TikTok version of the weird nerd stereotype, replace the PCBs with cosmetics and games with celebrity gossip. Their influencers sell lipsticks instead of 3d printed desk toys and mechanical switches. For me it's difficult to recognize TikTok stuff as a legitimate interest and understand her devotion to it, but then many of the hacker stuff must seem the same to the people outside of these circles.
Not that I know her situation better than you do of course, this was more of a thought experiment on trying to understand a niche that I know very little about.
Basically an iPad that is not just a big iPhone but a capable computer in iPad form factor, not necessarily one that uses MacOS even.
As an anecdata, most people I know are somewhere on the low-class to upper-mid class, and the ones who want kids seem to always have at least one, consequences be damned, and the ones who don't, often don't put a price tag on it and merely use it as an excuse if they feel pressured.
Also the `natural instinct` may not be a given here, since up until recently the instinct to have sex and procreate meant the same results for humans just like other animals, which no longer holds true either.
The assumption of there being a finite amount of IPs to cycle for an attack doesn’t entirely hold with IPv6, and seems like not all software is configured to take that into account.
Explained here better: https://adam-p.ca/blog/2022/02/ipv6-rate-limiting/
