Can you elaborate on "all the internet video is ran by it"?

With 8 cores and (I would imagine) much more dev time put into optimization than your typical software, I don't see that as an issue really. Most home computer software is still single-threaded, so it makes sense a single core would need to be more powerful in that scenario.

Although, I guess maybe my argument is moot since your average home PC CPU is going to have at least 4, probably more, cores...

But the line of people overall shifts back one person each time, so the average speed would still be the same as if the guy was alone.

No way, we should expect 14k video out of this! /s

There are some other comments here already explaining that without better optics or a larger sensor, you really won't see much improvement past a few tens of MP.

For me, affiliate links can be an indicator that the author's motives may be more skewed toward convincing people to buy things than giving a fair representation of the products. However this isn't always the case obviously.
aqfamnzc··on Google Maps' moat is evaporating (2020)
Another contributing factor with the jank is the "snapping" to discrete zoom levels. One of the primary benefits of rendering vector tiles is continuous zoom!

Also, the direction mode toggle you mention does exist, and works quite well. The flipside of Osmand's awesome configurability is that it takes me 5 minutes of digging to figure out how to enable things like this.

aqfamnzc··on Facebook has started to encrypt links to counter privacy-improving URL Stripping
Could you explain how one would go about determining what you explained here? Is the "KLE..." part of the shortened URL just compressed somehow and you can decompress it? I guess I always assumed the browser just requested the shortened url and the black-box google server opaquely serves up the destination page, allowing it to do whatever with the (I assumed, incorrectly it would seem) unique string in the URL. Unique to the user sharing and video being shared, I mean.
aqfamnzc··on Intel Microcode Decryptor
When you say externally exposed, do you mean to the network, or physically exposed, or what?
aqfamnzc··on Facebook has started to encrypt links to counter privacy-improving URL Stripping
I've always assumed that "shortened" shared links that things like the youtube app provides do something similar - no way to remove a tracking param when you have something like `https://youtu.be/KLEH8RJsYg`.

As opposed to what? Reflecting it? (Honest question.)

For fine localization, are they using dead reckoning with steering angle and vehicle speed instead of GNSS?
aqfamnzc··on Driverless robotaxi fleet paralyzed for hours in San Francisco
Could it be using a different protocol or CRC system that's more resistant to that type of issue perhaps? There must be some difference, otherwise it would just be more GPS, right?
aqfamnzc··on DIY 1kW MPPT Solar Charge Controller
Seems like you are implying there's a non-real solution to that curve's maximum as well, which makes sense. Obviously directly these aren't useful, but I wonder if there are any situations where imaginary solns might also be helpful to know?

aqfamnzc··on Ask HN: What game do you wish existed?
I wonder if this would be possible if you could abstract away enough detail when necessary, and bring it back when zooming in. For example, when you zoom out from a city, the server stops calculating individual vehicles' paths, and instead models the city as a node with x cars flowing in via I-69, y cars flowing out via I-01, etc. Using this you could even abstract away entire planets.

Then when the player zooms in again, individual roads can still be adjusted, which simply changes the formula describing the city's traffic flow.

I have an S41 missing its USB cover too, and have always wondered if it's still splash or water proof without it. I did find a picture of a replacement port online, and it looks like that part has a rubber seal which seems promising.
aqfamnzc··on Report: 90% of nurses considering leaving the profession in the next year
It also probably doesn't help that doctors are jacks-of-all-trades medically - there are simply too much complexity to thoroughly understand the nuances of every obscure condition and interaction.

However, I think acknowledging when one doesn't know something is a skill many could benefit from improving...

aqfamnzc··on Parking kills businesses, not bikes or buses
Right, what's more independant than a bike? Cars, machines with thousands of moving parts that must be maintained with gas, oil, tires, insurance, registration, and other maintenance aren't in my view.

aqfamnzc··on Modern smartphone lenses are crazy
If I remember right, newer Samsungs have their stack of telephoto optics pointing toward the top of the phone, parallel to the display. Then use a periscope style prism to look out and forward. That way you aren't limited by the device thickness (although I guess now the diameter of the lenses is constrained)

aqfamnzc··on The Windows 11 taskbar is an annoying step backward
I think I it would bother me to have to click twice when working back and forth between two windows. Maybe another approach could be to only register the click action if there is no overlap? Then again, the inconsistency would probably be frustrating with that approach.
