apierre··on Simpsons in CSS
"Everything done in CSS" fad makes me think this is the new ASCII art
apierre··on Webdesign tool Macaw raises $275k on Kickstarter, $200k more than original goal
It looks very nice, it makes me think of Flux.

The problem with wysiwyg editors from previous generations (Dreamweaver, Frontpage, etc) is that you could never arrange the layout the way you wanted and ended up being developers worse enemies with the poor code being generated.

Now you'll have the power of Photoshop (Positioning, layers, transparency, etc) with a clean code output (grid aware, responsive, css3)

apierre··on I Bought An Apartment To Rent Out On Airbnb
London has its own economy when it comes to property. Prices have soared to a new record high just in a month (+10%).

So yes, I think the capital is overheating.

apierre··on I Bought An Apartment To Rent Out On Airbnb
I feel your pain.
apierre··on I Bought An Apartment To Rent Out On Airbnb
I wish I could do the same in London. But in that price range, I can only rent out a closet.
apierre··on Show HN: 1 week project, website screenshots emailed to you and archived daily
I am wondering if there isn't any copyright infringement like derivative work when you grab a webpage and then do some monitoring on it through your website.

It is worth asking a lawyer. Otherwise I think this is a cool project too.

apierre··on Show HN: Lost & found tags
I like the idea but good samaritans in this world becomes scarce, especially for electronics.

I believe it is best to use services like Find my iPhone/Droid, and the likes if you lose your precious device. At least you can lock/wipe/send your details if your device is found and still have a little chance of having it returned.

Also I think sticker tags like that are not really effective in a world where everything becomes location/people/things aware. The natural evolution is "tag 2.0" (eg. TheTileApp)

apierre··on Get information about any country via a RESTful API
Same for "calling code". 44 returns Guernsey which is correct but I would expect the UK instead.
apierre··on Pixelmator 3.0
It depends on your infrequent needs. Are you using advanced Illustrator features?

I also cannot justify a subscription to Adobe CC and try to use Sketch as a Fireworks/Photoshop alternative.

apierre··on Pixelmator 3.0
I think Sketch would be more suitable for web design.
apierre··on French Court Allows Reverse Engineering of Skype Protocol
Eet iz formidable!
apierre··on Meet the Nest Protect smoke and CO alarm
Does it get Paul Graham's seal of approval?
apierre··on Show HN: Dead simple Hacker News reader for iOS
Just like hnsearch.com
apierre··on Show HN: Dead simple Hacker News reader for iOS
I just downloaded it, I really like the look and feel. Please add a search feature as well and you have the perfect HN reader ;-)
apierre··on Show HN: Dead simple Hacker News reader for iOS
£1.49 for a very basic HN reader is a bit premature. I like that it is iOS7 designed though.

A couple of suggestions:

- Comments - Instapaper or similar

apierre··on In 2016, Paris to be home to the biggest startup incubator in the world
It will not happen/work while Hollande is president
apierre··on Voyager 1 has been traveling for about a year through plasma between stars
What kind of software has Voyager inside? I am amazed it has been running for 36 years. Updates at 20 byte a second must be fun:-)
apierre··on Ask HN: Alternate Careers for a Software developer
How about creating your own business?
apierre··on Is there any such thing as 'road tax'? (UK: Cars vs Cyclists)
I completely agree with you. I do cycle sometimes as well and since I am an occasional driver as well, I try to anticipate motorists behaviour.

I think it is all about understanding each other ecosystem and mutual respect.

apierre··on Is there any such thing as 'road tax'? (UK: Cars vs Cyclists)
While I appreciate Boris'Superhighway, I think driving during rush hours with dozen of cyclists coming from every way, driving in the middle of the road is just insane.

I am a very careful driver, I respect cyclists but some of them really think the road only belongs to them. I sometimes feel I am in a middle of a flock of birds and that is dangerous.

apierre··on Ask HN: I'm a chronic procrastinator – how do I break it?
Very good point, I just spent 20 minutes reading all the comments, checking links, etc

Now, I can fill a pixel in one of my remaining boxes :-)

apierre··on Ask HN: MVP - How to handle the emotional roller-coaster ride?
Don't you want to tell us about your product?
apierre··on IFTTT goes Mobile
I quite like the Wemo recipes but I wish we could use IFTTT with Arduino or a Pi
apierre··on Career Advice From LinkedIn's Billionaire Founder
These slides are motivating but they look like a mashup of everything you can read around.

I felt there was a subliminal message: Subscribe to LinkedIn Premium in order to leverage your network.

apierre··on An iPhone lover’s confession: I switched to the Nexus 4
Exactly! The Nexus4 is still sold out as we speak and even if you manage to order one, you will get a 8 weeks window for delivery but Google will make you pay £10 for "express" delivery. What a joke.
apierre··on [dead]
I am not surprised at all. Recession is hard for everyone, even for a $600bn company ;-) I am sure this adapter costs them around 50c to build.
