apierre··on Show HN: Franc – Detect natural languages
I am using IDOL OnDemand which gives good results too.
apierre··on Sense – Wake up when it's right for you
Vitamin D I would guess
apierre··on Sense – Wake up when it's right for you
If your room is too noisy, sense will send the data for further analysis ;)
apierre··on Sense – Wake up when it's right for you
A part of me is really interested in these sleeping analytic devices but on the other hand, I am always sleeping with my phone on airplane mode.

Not to enter the EMF debate, I wonder if being pinged all night long by all sort of waves is going to make my bedroom zen.

apierre··on Sense – Wake up when it's right for you
We were very worried about SIDS when our daughter was born (11 months ago). We had all sort of monitors and sensors you can think of, only to realise with time that it was actually a source of stress for all of us.
apierre··on Sense – Wake up when it's right for you
We have the Withings baby monitor with noise and movement tracking.
apierre··on Sense – Wake up when it's right for you
You don't have to wear a chest strap on your forehead.
apierre··on Show HN: Checkr.io – API for background checks
I agree with you but I am wondering how would that work on a country specific level. Each country in Europe has their own privacy laws when it comes to query these kind of databases. Not to mention the EU adding another layer in the process.

Take for instance the credit scoring system. There is no such thing as Expedia or privately maintained credit scoring system outside the UK. In France, the Bank of France maintains files which are only available to financial institutions holding a licence.

Another example, in the UK, the sex offenders register is only available through the police, in other countries, there have been citizen initiatives to create such database for specific areas.

This kind of service is more realistic in the US as their SSN is the main ID for background check.

apierre··on Simpsons in CSS
This is the new ascii art
apierre··on How to become a millionaire web developer
I stopped reading after counting how much you would save if you'd cut your daily coffee. In 2034, £1 million will be worth way less than today anyway.
apierre··on How I Feel as Young Father Involved in Early-stage Startup
I have a 9 months old daughter. I've been trying productivity techniques for years but I must say she has been the best motivator ever.

Knowing that I have to collect her from nursery, help with the bedtime routine, I need to finish as much work as possible during the day, no time to waste. At the beginning, it was just impossible for me to think finishing working at 6pm but in fact, I just feel better in my mind and my productivity skyrocketed since then.

Not to mention that I also stopped wasting time with bad projects and client.

Have a baby! Best pomodoro ever ;)

apierre··on Show HN: Turn sketches on paper into app prototypes
I can already do the same with Sketch and their Mirror app but I like the Dropbox feature.
apierre··on Ask HN: What accounting software do you use?
May I ask you how much does your accountant charge for your annual returns/accounts?
apierre··on Coming Soon to Hacker News: Pending Comments
Someone was talking about lobste.rs
apierre··on Coming Soon to Hacker News: Pending Comments
How long until we see a new ShowHN post : "Alternative to Hacker News" or "Why I coded my own HN alternative"
apierre··on Framework 7 – Building native iOS apps in HTML5
The title should say, mimics native iOS UI in the browser. Nice job though.
apierre··on High protein diet not as bad for you as smoking
You should read HN more often, you'd know what I was referring it to ;-)
apierre··on High protein diet not as bad for you as smoking
Hold on - are you sure this article wasn't XSS injected by meat eaters?
apierre··on Apple CarPlay
Well driving with an automatic in London traffic jam is much more comfortable than not being able to shift beyond 2nd gear ;-)

I have a Golf with a 7 speed DSG gearbox and trust me, in sport mode, you can have amazing and smooth acceleration.

apierre··on StackMob is shutting down
I am also considering to use Parse but I am still tempted to use StrongLoop (http://strongloop.com/mobile-application-development/loopbac...)
apierre··on Koudetat+ – Anyone can become an entrepreneur
or in Hollande...

I agree with you that there is a trade-off with social advantages. NHS is not as good as having a carte Vitale but I still prefer to live in London.

apierre··on Koudetat+ – Anyone can become an entrepreneur
Have a look here: http://www.doingbusiness.org/rankings

France is 38th on the list, UK is 10th and the US is 4th for "ease of starting up"

I am not sure engineers are 3x cheaper in France. Don't forget that the cost of employment (and unemployment) are horrendous for businesses.

Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of entrepreneurs in France. They are very talented, full of ambition and hard working but they all say it is very hard. There is also a complex in France with money and success but that is another debate.

Nobody said it is easy but it definitely helps if you live in an entrepreneur friendly country, because you will meet people like you and start things quicker.

apierre··on Koudetat+ – Anyone can become an entrepreneur
Je parle en connaissance de cause ;-) I am not saying the project is wrong, far from it. I think you'd agree that France hasn't got the best fiscality or entrepreneur spirit compared to what you can find in the UK/US.
apierre··on Koudetat+ – Anyone can become an entrepreneur
The title sounds like a Bannatyne book. To be honest, I think France is definitely the last country I would try to be an entrepreneur.
apierre··on How To Become Uber Productive While Working For Yourself
I actually need that kind of background noise. I sometimes create a coffee shop environment from home with Coffitivity.
apierre··on How To Become Uber Productive While Working For Yourself
If you are in London, the BL has a good broadband and I can use my VPN there.
apierre··on My Experience in the Educational Apps Market – 2013 report
Félicitations! Funny we almost have the same username here :)
apierre··on Someone’s Been Siphoning Data Through a Huge Security Hole in the Internet
Maybe Dr Evil in his secret volcano lair.
apierre··on Read less HN
My girlfriend is reading the Daily Mail like I read Hacker News. I don't know which website is worse for our well being but I try to read the day best voted submissions and it is enough to keep me updated with everything else.
