Thanks for this - I think you are on to something when you mention the low level architecture, on reflection this is where I need to fully understand the concepts - I'm messing around in this area with the usual (Nand to Tetris) type info/tutorials. I'll then come back to this manual I'm sure. Like I say - I've enjoyed it quite a bit. Its certainly me lacking - not the book!
I've enjoyed this guide a number of times but each time I hit a brick wall trying to understand pointers. I'm still keen to learn but it just doesnt 'click' for me...
I remember this, a particularly cool thing for the time is that Thorin appeared to be doing his own thing, singing, going in and out of the room, that kind of thing. For the time it seemed incredible...

Agree, about 7 years ago I spilt liquid on my MacBook Pro. They let me off the repair costs (significant, new motherboard etc..), just said be a bit more careful. Have recounted this story many times since, sad to hear things may have changed.
I remember trying to get into HAM a couple of years ago, I followed the standard advice of joining a local group - after emailing to enquire I received a reply which can only be described as rude, the exact opposite of welcoming. Kind of left a sour taste, a shame really - I should give it another go.
Its funny you mention the rewards on certain types of writing within Reddit. I was thinking about it the other day & couldnt quite put my finger on why I dislike a lot of the stuff on there - even across Reddits. I think this is probably the cause...
Whenever this site pops up I always end up going to http://textfiles.com/bbs/MINDVOX/voices.txt - I recall Mindvox in Wired and that kind of thing but it was ever so slightly before my time..
