antithesizer··on Why the Internet Is Turning to Shit
Only a child would be so unfamiliar with history as to make a claim like that.
antithesizer··on US to review all 55M visas to check if holders broke rules
That is why they're doing it. They're looking for pretexts to reduce headcount. They don't give a s** if the positive is false or not.
antithesizer··on Margin debt surges to record high
One of the two major worldviews (ideologies) says the market is fully valued. One says it's severely undervalued. Nobody is capable of considering that their world view is wrong and they're living in a fantasy. The next 12 months will be fascinating and (for some) extremely satisfying.

I noticed exactly the same thing with Sabine. Her spiral into crankery has been disappointing.

It's very pleasant to see someone else saying it, too. Thank you.

antithesizer··on Mark Zuckerberg freezes AI hiring amid bubble fears
itt: confirmation bias
antithesizer··on 95 per cent of organisations are getting zero return from AI according to MIT
Completely agree. There was a similar report published last year, lots of fluff, seemingly tailor made to scare retail investors. FT's quality has really taken a hit in recent years. It's sad to see them publishing nonsense like this.

A more evenhanded take on the same report:

antithesizer··on We Hit 100% GPU Utilization–and Then Made It 3× Faster by Not Using It
hmm maybe that's why they didn't post it
antithesizer··on LLMs tell bad jokes because they avoid surprises
Nonsense. As though LLMs could imagine what would be in that sweet spot of surprising-but-not-senseless and intentionally avoid it.
antithesizer··on Electricity prices are climbing more than twice as fast as inflation
good thing we all got con'd into buying electric stovetops a few years ago :)

antithesizer··on Woz: 'I Am the Happiest Person'
"While" not "whereas"
antithesizer··on Model intelligence is no longer the constraint for automation
The word you're looking for is "rebuttal" since this is neither proof nor refutation of anything, but merely an argument against the thesis.
antithesizer··on Is air travel getting worse?
How anyone could seriously doubt that the answer is 'yes' is beyond me. I mean aside from people who just don't fly much.
antithesizer··on Why are there so many rationalist cults?
Little on offer but cults these days. Take your pick. You probably already did long ago and now your own cult is the only one you'll never clock as such.
antithesizer··on Is the A.I. Boom Turning Into an A.I. Bubble?
I remember reading this two years ago. And one year ago, too.
antithesizer··on Meta brought AI to rural Colombia. Now students are failing exams
yeah man, children being permanently maimed in 19th factories during 20 hour shifts, children using chat bots and subsequently (and therefore causally) getting bad grades... who can even begin to tell the difference??
antithesizer··on Claude is the drug, Cursor is the dealer
You clearly are selling something, too: doubt. (Note your appeal to your own authority.)

Don't kid yourself. Skepticism is not neutrality. These days throwing shade is a growth industry. There's money to be made shorting just like there is going long. Neither is the objective, disinterested position, although skepticism always enjoys the appearance of prudence, at least to the ignorant.

Anyone who says they're not trying to sell you something lacks self-awareness about what they themselves have been sold.

antithesizer··on The value of institutional memory
This is one reason why what ServiceNow does is so important.
antithesizer··on The value of institutional memory
It can be documents and it can be people, but it's not essentially either one. It can take many forms, including being lost when none of those forms has it on offer, as every business is different. An institution with excellent documentation, mature processes, and adept hiring could retain its "memory" without a single human member remaining from the past. Oral history and other humanistic forms of memory make everyone feel warm and fuzzy, but they're not to be idealized as the only real memory simply because they were underappreciated for a some time.
antithesizer··on AI is impressive because we've failed at personal computing
The essential meaning of technological progress is the utter inadequacy of humanity. We build cars that we never figure out how to safely drive, but being to arrogant to admit defeat and reconstruct society around trams like a sensible animal would do, we wait a century for cars that can drive themselves while the bodies pile up on the freeways in the meantime.

Yes it's true, we can't make a UI. Or a personal computer, or anything else that isn't deeply opaque to its intended users. But it's so much worse than that. We humans can't do hardly anything successfully besides build technology and beat each other in an ever expanding array of ridiculous pissing contests we call society.

antithesizer··on Show HN: I spent 6 years building a ridiculous wooden pixel display
Evil triumphs when good people lean into their hobbies.
antithesizer··on We may not like what we become if A.I. solves loneliness
Human beings are a bad influence. Separating them from one another for a while is worth a try. The presence of a non-human intermediary could go a long way towards de-escalating this powder keg of a society.
antithesizer··on Lina Khan points to Figma IPO as vindication of M&A scrutiny
Lmao you cannot be serious. Lina Khan is right about m&a but if you don't understand how absurd the current price of FIG is you should never comment on anything economics-related ever again.
antithesizer··on Belgium bans Internet Archive's ‘Open Library’

antithesizer··on U.S. fires statistics chief after soft jobs report

antithesizer··on Commissioner of labor statistics fired after weaker-than-expected jobs figures
HN demonstrating they are no better, not even more intellectually honest, than MAGA itt. If all you know about this is the headline then you know less than nothing.
