antfarm··on Turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 and get its disk space back
In my opinion, AI belongs in the application level, not the operating system level. I hope Apple will revert their decision soon.
antfarm··on Turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 and get its disk space back
In Xcode, go to Window > Devices and Simulators in the menu bar (or press Shift+Cmd+2), then select the Simulators tab in the sidebar to open the list of simulators. Here you can select and delete simulators.

Why would they want a person with subpar intelligence as the mascot of their rebranding?

The sycophants have already adopted the new terminology.

antfarm··on Trump orders US Government to call AI 'Super Intelligence'
No, they are allowed to call it "SI" [1]. Even Elon calls it that now [2][3].

It looks like Tahoe is about to become the new Snow Leopard.

Today, even most Apple devices are round rects.

  "workbench.experimental.modernUI": false,
antfarm··on English: A vs. An
Funny how that short article has a sentence where an article that should be there is omitted. "The word <unicorn> starts with vowel letter..."

When I see this, I always assume the author to be Russian.

antfarm··on Anecdotally, programmers dislike "reduce"
I remember finally getting what closures and reduce are when I learned Ruby in 2008 for my first Rails job.

A pivotal moment on the same level as when I finally understood how recursion and pointers work in 1995 in my first semester CS classes (taught in Modula 2), two concepts I had only ever read about in programming books, but not been able to understand on my own.

In 2024 I did Advent of Code in Swift, without using mutable state, custom data types or loops, and used reduce rahther generously. [1]

Reverse centaur at an organizational scale.
antfarm··on Due to concerns about malicious applications, GPT2 will not be released (2019)
Judging by what people who worked closely witb Sam Altman say about him, you should not trust an organisation led by him.
antfarm··on I have a theory that software drives people insane
Sprint is a terrible misnomer, it should be iteration. It's about seeing work as a series of opportunities to gather feedback and apply the learnings to the way future work is done.
antfarm··on Stop Omarchy
What part exactly? I hope not the one about DHH publishing essays promoting far-right talking points.
antfarm··on Finder is so frustrating and has been since day one
It works fine for me, I use the column view (unless I want to sort) and don't use groups (uncheck Edit > Use Groups). Back in the MacOS 7.5 days I had a system extension that gave me the column view I knew from my university's NeXT workstations. For more complex file operations, there is Terminal.
antfarm··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
Why not just use the original title of the blog post? It's "Merchants of Insecurity".
antfarm··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
Not to forget the fact that websites nowadays can be real memory hogs, are dynamically assembled on your machine and burn cycles on pure eye candy UX like animations and transparency. The web's focus on design and cleverness over content and functionality is partly to blame.
antfarm··on Xiaomi-Robotics-1
We nearly destroyed our planet to get there. Technocrats here applaude the new technological achievements that make life a little easier (less boring?) for the top one percent while willfully ignoring the associated costs for everyone else. Manufacturing these at scale will only make things worse. We are approaching peak decadence ever faster.
antfarm··on $100 AI Music Video: Claude Fable 5 vs. GPT-5.6 Sol
I think these videos are a great way to visualize what is wrong with the "personality" of LLMs: they are shallow, unoriginal, overconfindent.

The videos convey this in a more vivid and direct way than any text answer could. I often have the thought that if Claude were a human colleague, I'd avoid having to work with them.

antfarm··on Codex Micro
I don't understand the many Teenage Engineering references in this thread, this design has no soul.
antfarm··on Ask HN: Add flag for AI-generated articles
There should be a global registry for books written by generative AI and sold under the name of a "real" (probably non-exisiting) author.
antfarm··on Hy3
I was expecting a new release of the Hy language (https://hylang.org).
antfarm··on The best response to AI slop and online noise is from Robin Williams
This is a bit of a straw man. There obviously is a huge gap between knowing the human condition from living through it versus just having "read" about it during training.
antfarm··on U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6
> I hope this doesn't become the new norm where government becomes the bottleneck for innovation in the AI space.

I hope that not too far in the future a responsible government* will become the bottleneck for innovation in the AI space.

*obviously not the current

antfarm··on The 2-Year Apartment Rule
I had the same thought after reading the first few sentences. Bathrooms and kitchens especially have to be cleaned regularly, and not just superficially. Otherwise, what the author describes happens.
antfarm··on Cleaning up after AI rockstar developers
Take a good look at the codebase you're working on. My guess is there's plenty opportunities to clean up after others, or even yourself.
