anonymouse008··on Apple's new SpeechAnalyzer API, benchmarked against Whisper and its predecessor
Excited to get next years diarization models - ArgMax is pretty incredible but cost prohibitive (when compared to 0 price from iOS)
anonymouse008··on Show HN: Trace – Offline Mac meeting transcripts you can flag mid-call
* full price tokens, yes

Not the subsidized subs

anonymouse008··on Book review: There Is No Antimemetics Division
Did I lose chapters or is v1 horribly different? It was so psychologically defeating I was in a very weird malaise for a week.
anonymouse008··on Stripe Launches L1 Blockchain: Tempo
“The way out of interchange”
anonymouse008··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (March 2025)
Good use of tech. Hardest thing will be corrosion on the fabric electrodes. Muse S has much to teach if you haven't looked at them yet.
anonymouse008··on Launch HN: Airhart Aeronautics (YC S22) – A modern personal airplane
Aero-engineers: why can't we make airfoil kits to make certain vehicles 'air worthy'? A 10k addon to your current sedan to make it short take off and landing sounds way more fun than anything else.

I understand that weight on ground for stability is completely different than air travel... but why not create a whole class of vehicles around this premise?

The only one I can remember is the SkyCar from Moller. He was a little ahead of the game with petrol based quad motors.

anonymouse008··on PostgREST – Serve a RESTful API from Any Postgres Database
How much should one trust RLS? Reading PostgREST, it looks like you could use a JWT parameter to enforce a policy - whether individual user or group based.

I really love the idea of RLS, but wonder at it's provable security properties.

anonymouse008··on App charges founders $2500 for VC meetings
CPC of $2500 isn't bad for the potential upside
anonymouse008··on Cold shipping might be the next industry that batteries disrupt
Even if you have good enough insulation; you still have to dissipate the Peltier plates heat… which makes little believable sense to me without a hefty heat sink
anonymouse008··on Cold shipping might be the next industry that batteries disrupt
I have good relationships with seafood and food distributors though have never thought battery powered cooling packing made sense here. What exactly am I missing? Even in vaccines this is a solved problem with fewer points of failure if you just add telemetry.
anonymouse008··on Supreme Court overturns 40-year-old "Chevron deference" doctrine
I'm thankful.

Congress skirted their duties for 40 years. This legislative / executive codependency then created a tightly connected and interdependent governance system, outside the purview of the judicial 'checks and balances.' This is why things like warrantless mass tapping and the Patriot Act became 'good law.'

We are unwinding decades of bad governance. This is a joyous occasion, along with the ACJ decision from last session.

Before anyone says there were still checks and balances - if you feel the need to, you have no idea what Cheveron meant

anonymouse008··on Show HN: Midday – Run your business smarter (open-source)
Yeah, I feel most invoicing forgets it can be both time and fixed cost // then also only cares about generating, rather than tracking the flow afterward.

Might be just me though?

anonymouse008··on NodeSwift: Bridge Node.js and Swift
Wait, so you compile a swift executable that’s callable from js? How would one distribute this client side in browser?

I’m not smart enough to understand this. I love swift, vapor and node individually, I don’t get it together

anonymouse008··on Things you wish you didn't need to know about S3
I’ve become old. If you look at these things in disgust (ACL vs Policies, Delete bucket with s3:*, etc), you’re missing the point of (deterministic ?) software. It does what it is written to do, faithfully, and error out when not. When it doesn’t do as written or as documented, then yes… go full bore.
anonymouse008··on Jim Simons has died

anonymouse008··on Apple apologizes for iPad 'Crush' ad that 'missed the mark'
Apple’s marketing tells us who they are proud to be. As someone who attempts to defend the AppStore fees and process as valuable, seeing this makes me question if Apple has gotten “too cool” to be a good steward.

So, while it may not feel like it to you, from those who have invested in the brand this is a betrayal and a real emotion.

Oh, and I get through the day just fine. It just reminds me to never relent on my values.

anonymouse008··on New iPad Pro with M4 chip and Apple Pencil Pro
Even if 'no animals were harmed' in the making, as in they pulled some filming tricks... it's still a disturbing message. They once understood 'marketing is about values' // what a sad value they proclaimed today, destroy the essence for our entertainment.
anonymouse008··on New iPad Pro with M4 chip and Apple Pencil Pro
@apple team: whomever approved your hydraulic press imagery forgot that "standing on the shoulders of giants" is an appreciation of, not a license to stomp on. words matter, images matter, it's how you tell us who you are.
anonymouse008··on New iPad Pro with M4 chip and Apple Pencil Pro
All I'm thinking about is what will Square do now. None of the iPads fit their Square Stand... I loved having a general compute iOS device on the stand for other apps, I hope they don't make us get their dedicated terminal...
anonymouse008··on Software Supply Chain Security
"I" I doubt would be allowed in the threat model unless you're someone notable like a patio11 or similar. Otherwise you're just as potentially compromised as the original threat
anonymouse008··on Gems of Tailwind CSS
This is why I love imba.io so much, it has everything in one file.

js, html, css > all within the proper component context in a reasonable OO form (react fx can fx right off)

And, Imba global css classes are importable to other tags at the top level, no need to reimport, just .class-me

anonymouse008··on Show HN: I made a website that converts YT videos into step-by-step guides
Whoever did this is a prankster and hilarious: https://stepify.tech/video/co7KgV2edvI

I hope that didn’t wreck your compute costs

anonymouse008··on Justice Department to file antitrust suit against Live Nation
This is a most beautiful question. Perhaps the baby bells? That’s about all I can think of
anonymouse008··on Ask HN: What is the most useless project you have worked on?
Change this from ERP to POS and you've scripted 9/10ths of the pains for many quick service restaurant chains.

Story time: people are dense as hell. This one idiot put in his personal SSN to open $XX/m a year POS account. This account currently manages just over a hundred locations, and this fool's TIN has just been raking in millions for a few years all because 'I needed to get us signed up!' And what's better!? They still can't get out of the wet paper bag, because otherwise "we'll someone might start selling candy or something unapproved" > we'll isn't that's what your franchise liaisons and agreements are for?! I'm just beside myself.

I'm so hyped on this because this one 'immovable problem' prevents me from having API access to my locations accounts. Everything just hurts. /rant

anonymouse008··on Ask HN: How to secure website for public launch
I’m saying no person who writes JWT anything should have the belief that a JWT is by any means associated with encryption. It breaks my brain, like no where in any spec are there these claims (pun)
anonymouse008··on Ask HN: How to secure website for public launch
> * If you're using JWTs anywhere, don't mistake them for encryption - they are not.

I would love to understand the assumptions that lead to this belief. It makes negative sense?

anonymouse008··on Show HN: I taught ChatGPT to find cool domain names – with availability check
Just don’t front run us, ok?
anonymouse008··on Launch HN: PointOne (YC W24) – Automated time tracking for lawyers
Oh yeah I forget all the time to even start the first one :’D
anonymouse008··on Launch HN: PointOne (YC W24) – Automated time tracking for lawyers
This problem space is so interesting. You have the 'always on' approaches like yours, or you have things like Toggl and Clockify etc. There will always be tension in "always on at my desk" vs. "on the go" time tracking.

I'm always on the road, so very few of these 'track my screen for billing' tools appeal to me. Tenths, though, has been a good fit for my lifestyle. It's honestly helped me with my ADHD, too.

Good luck on your endeavors!

Tenths is only on iOS, the website doesn't have much other info: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tenths-billing-time-keeper/id1...
