anonbanker··on She was accused of faking incriminating video of cheerleaders. Nothing was fake
The narrative of "Ignore this, it's a Deepfake" is very strong, and it's now clear that we as a society are being conditioned to react accordingly.

What happens if the 1TB "Insurance" folder on Anthony Weiner's laptop, the one that allegedly made seasoned NYPD officers vomit when they viewed the contents, is inevitably released? Would we all be told "Ignore this, it's a Deepfake"?

anonbanker··on Microsoft closes several large Bethesda affiliated game studios
I develop games in 3D using Godot. It's quite good for the task. Especially 4.3 dev builds.
anonbanker··on Telegram founder claims Signal has a US government backdoor
Tox is not secure. Jason Donnenfeld (of Wireguard fame) filed a very alarming issue about how obviously bad the handshake was implemented[1], and lead developer Andre Almeida (iphydf/noavarice) continued to downplay the severity in public, while fashioning exploits based on it inside his "Club Cyberia" Tox group to weaponize said issue.

Stay away from Tox.

anonbanker··on Divided Supreme Court rules no quick hearing required when police seize property
Nobody read the Gorsuch/Thomas opinion. There's plenty of leeway to challenge the overall constitutionality of asset forfeiture itself, rather than the minutiae of prompt and timely challenges to police seizure.
anonbanker··on US State Department documents suggest Covid-19 leaked from a lab in Wuhan
> someone

Nobody important, just a congressional subcommittee tasked with investigating the pandemic. That's all.

Theory: A tested hypothesis that is supported by evidence.

Conspiracy: In criminal law, a conspiracy is an agreement between two or more people to commit a crime at some time in the future. Criminal law in some countries or for some conspiracies may require that at least one overt act be undertaken in furtherance of that agreement, to constitute an offense.

So, a tested hypothesis supported by evidence of an agreement between two or more people to commit a crime.

And the english-speaking public has been brainwashed into thinking these words mean something completely different when combined.

anonbanker··on Nintendo to announce new console by end of fiscal year
This is pure speculation, but I'm willing to bet that Iwata wanted the Wii U to be more like the switch, but the board was likely extremely nervous about cannibalizing their portable DS market, so they opted for the Wii U Tablet instead, to disastrous results.
anonbanker··on Nintendo to announce new console by end of fiscal year
Nvidia already showed off [1] the guts of what is going to end up as the new Switch, the Xavier NX.

Expect full backwards compatibility and better performance. This is going to be iterative, and not revolutionary. Shuntaro Furukawa is not Satoru Iwata, and is much more averse to risk-taking.

There is nothing more freeing than being "out of touch" with media. I got rid of my TV in 2000, and my life improved dramatically. I stopped playing AAA in 2009, and my life improved dramatically. Indie games, specifically the Godot dev scene, is where the real innovation in gaming is happening. When AAA implodes, you'll learn what you were missing all along.
anonbanker··on How coffee became a joke
Starbucks is a place to purchase overprice hipster milkshakes designed for people who purport to be adults, but put sprinkles on their drink.
anonbanker··on Show HN: I hate online Lorem Ipsum Generator so I made my own
Google translate decided to convert the page to english. I was very pleased by the results, as they'd make fantastic names for Math Rock songs.

Till hydrogen Reserved Vulputate salad sad running. In fact, there is no advantage from the members of the pregnant, not only a lot.

anonbanker··on Microsoft plans to lock down Windows DNS like never before
This is a fabulous solution to a rather large issue that I've been personally experiencing (DNS poisoning), and, as a free software zealot, it feels rather strange to be cheering Microsoft on for promoting it.
anonbanker··on Gene banks aren’t enough to save the world’s food
Do you think irrational xenophobia is on the rise? And if so, what you would suggest to counter it?
anonbanker··on US drug control agency will move to reclassify marijuana
Did nobody else notice that this is a story based on sources "Familiar with the matter"?

Have we learned nothing from the Mueller Investigation? How are we all still falling for unsourced stories 5 years later?

anonbanker··on Nintendo(1)
Devteam was using the official Switch SDK to develop, like a bunch of absolute morons.
anonbanker··on Nintendo(1)
What is the cycle accuracy of these emulators, compared to mGBA and Mesen?
anonbanker··on Microsoft Releases DOS 4.0 Source Code but It Doesn't Compile Lunduke [video]
Comments on HN that hate Lunduke are absolutely amazing. I can't help but laugh at how salty everyone is for literally no reason, and the meaningless reason they often give (he's a nazi, but it's okay to hate israel and we're not nazis) shows how much hate they're filled with.
anonbanker··on A New Sweetener Has Joined the Ranks of Aspartame and Stevia
Thank you for this. It confirms a lot of the issues I've been experiencing lately.
anonbanker··on Tell HN: Windows 3D Pinball (Space Cadet)
There are repos for all 3 of the 3D pinball games. You'll need the Plus! pack for the other two.
anonbanker··on Flipping Pages: New Linux vulnerability in nf_tables and exploitation techniques
I had been experiencing this vulnerability, as well as the Dirty Pagetable vuln, for the last six months. It's gotten to the point where I've disabled user and network namespaces entirely.

Long story short: it's very advantageous for an unscrupulous kernel developer to take advantage of embargoes for 0-days on targets he does not like.

anonbanker··on Twitter Is at Death’s Door, One Year After Elon Musk’s Takeover
Yeah, I don't buy it.
anonbanker··on Effect of fluoridated water on intelligence in 10-12-year-old school children
Important to note that many municipalities in Canada use hydrofluorosalicic acid to "fluoridate" their water supplies. Far more dangerous a substance, and fully legal under the Supreme Court of Canada's redefining of what "fluoridation" means in this country.
anonbanker··on You can now use WebGPU in Cloudflare Workers
Watch to the end of the talk I posted. It's only just begun.
anonbanker··on In a world-first, T-600 heavy lift drone launches anti-sub torpedo
Spoiler Alert: the T-800 drone will have the capability of travelling into the past.
anonbanker··on You can now use WebGPU in Cloudflare Workers
Considering how CloudFlare was just implicated in destroying secure email at Defcon [1], the addition of GPUs to that active assault is terrifying.
