>but wow that charisma

I've heard his charisma is palpable from several friends and acquaintances who have met him over the years. People notice when he walks in the room.

I have a similar gmail address as a successful VC. As a result of this coincidence, I get unsolicited pitches for startups regularly. My anecdotal evidence suggests that 100% of unsolicited startup pitches are dumpster fires of cash. YMMV

Your store(s) must have better coffee selections than the ones I frequent. Ruta Maya, Mayorga, some Kirkland varieties and others are much better than what I can get locally and only available to me online.
anonAndOn··on Love Song to Costco
Costco.com is where to look for coffee and other foodstuffs. You may have to buy the coffee in 5 lb bags, but the selection is superior and the quality is generally very good.

Pro athletes beget pro athletes All. The. Time.

Cherry picking some of the NBAs MVPs, you might not remember Dell Curry[0], but you probably know one or both(!) of his sons who play in the NBA. Or there's Joe Bryant[1] whose son eclipsed his career in the NBA.

Or, here's a fun sport switching family. Sometimes the athletic gene is so strong, four of the great-grandsons go pro.[2]

If you buy 10x $1000 (or 20x $500) bonds and cash out less than the full amount over the course of a year, you'll still come out ahead of whatever interest $BANK was going to pay you for the same funds in your savings account.

Don't forget aspiring politicians.[0] They also hire hit squads with the intent on sanctioning its use once they're in charge (presumably).

Do you mean like returning the former Defense Minister to Mexico before trial? It's so nice that we can "help".

This story is missing one important detail. It may have seemed superfluous at the time, but we now know it's not. Did Jim have a son?
anonAndOn··on There is no reason to cross the U.S. by train but I did it anyway (2019)
The train often does not parallel the highway. There are some remote parts of the country, particularly through the mountains, that can only been seen by rail. And because we have nothing comparable to a TGV or Shinkansen, you get to relax and see everything at a leisurely 40-60/mph, "rocking to the rhythm of the rails"[0].

anonAndOn··on Ask HN: Is the stock market's growth largely anything more than inflation?
Not at all. It's largely a chain of mountains so most people live down on the coasts.

anonAndOn··on A man-eating tiger's 'vengeance' (2010)
Of course they didn't admit to throwing things at the tiger. That would be admitting to a misdemeanor crime and lowering their compensation in the lawsuit as they would have provoked the animal's response.
anonAndOn··on A man-eating tiger's 'vengeance' (2010)
The reality is that the drunk and stoned fools admitted as such.[0]

anonAndOn··on A man-eating tiger's 'vengeance' (2010)
Tatiana, a Siberian Tiger, got vengeance on some young men at the SF zoo in 2007.[0] It was reported that they had been taunting and throwing things at her which pissed her off enough for her to jump the enclosure wall and hunt them down.

anonAndOn··on Twitter Deal Temporarily on Hold
Good point - A former colleague made an asking price offer on a house in 2007 that was rejected by the sellers. He bought the same house a year later from them for 70% of his original offer thanks to the Great Recession.
anonAndOn··on Twitter CEO fires two top executives, freezes hiring
How much of the DAU do you think is bot driven? I suspect it's larger than a publicly traded stock company is willing to admit and that some of that cesspool rhetoric is Aktive Measures to provoke unrest. Perhaps taking Twitter private and removing the chorus of machines will actually make it a more pleasant experience. Content Mod is never easy but expunging the bot armies is a big first step.
anonAndOn··on U.S. takes unprecedented steps to replenish Colorado River's Lake Powell
How old are your toilets? Old toilets could use as much as 7 gallons per flush 30+ years ago. Modern toilets use 1.6 gpf or less. Swapping out a 3gpf toilet that came with the house for a modern one made a helluva difference in my usage.

Is that from the Resnick [0] talking points memo? The Resnicks should grow their almonds back in the Middle East where they belong instead of in the CA desert.

anonAndOn··on Nearly all of the Western USA is in drought and it's not even summer yet
Those "Stop dumping water in the ocean" signs are a direct result of the Resnick's marketing efforts to grow nuts in the California desert. You may not be familiar with the Resnick name, but you are probably familiar with some of their brands.[0]

anonAndOn··on Cargo sous terrain – Underground cargo train in Switzerland
If you put your house in the acoustic shadow of a tall cinder block wall with a row of trees behind it, you can deflect a great deal of that noise. Build it for shade, just not from the sun.
anonAndOn··on Column – a chartered bank for developers
Long term debt has a mental tax that does not show up in a bank statement. While it may be "smart" to pay the minimum amount on a subsidized student loan, there's nothing like just paying it off and being done with it, forever.
anonAndOn··on U.S. forgives 40k student loans
We're actually quite fond of corporate welfare but loathe individual welfare. States will try to out compete each other to offer subsidies and tax relief for a giant-corp's new facility but shun much less expensive assistance for poor families. Golden shovels win re-elections! [0]
