Appreciate the explanation and links, thanks.

I don't see a simple way to load a model locally, am I missing something?

I see you recommending roboflow universe in the comments, is there any way to download those models and running them locally? Or is an API key always required?

anhner··on Show HN: Skyvern – Browser automation using LLMs and computer vision

Thank you so much for doing these videos, I learned a lot today. You have a talent for teaching! If you don't mind me asking, what is your background?

why the hell the downvotes for asking a genuine question?

Haven't been following closely, what's the issue with langchain?
anhner··on Our next-generation model: Gemini 1.5
I'd love to see that applied to the Google ecosystem, the question is - why haven't they already done this?
anhner··on Cousins are disappearing. Is this reshaping the experience of childhood?
I think this is the main issue right here. The others being increased housing cost (you need space for kids) and increasing costs (daycare, kindergarten, nappies etc.).
anhner··on Why Elixir Is the Best Language for Building a Bootstrapped, B2B SaaS in 2024
Unrelated to elixir, but a company I worked at used a legacy and niche programming language in a few of their older projects. Their hiring strategy was similar: have a few seasoned programmers and hire juniors that are willing to learn (and there wasnt' a shortage of these). Never had a problem.
anhner··on Bluesky signups are now open to the public
I thought that is why you might have required it, but on the other hand for malicious actors it's trivial to get a phone number unrelated to them, while legitimate users are giving up their only phone number, possibly exposing it to scammers and robocalls (in case of a breach), or having something linking to their real identity.

Anyway, hoping you revisit this one day and that's also when I will try your app again. Wishing you luck!

anhner··on Bluesky signups are now open to the public
Requiring phone number is a straight no go from me, sorry.
anhner··on Apple announces changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the European Union
> App code in 3rd party app stores is not going to be reviewed, which means anyone is free to craft a rootkit embedded in an app and release it to a 3rd party app store.

Oh no! You mean exactly like it has been on a mac for decades?

wildly overhyped AI toys that are not even available in the countries where they launched (Gemini Pro is not multimodal as others have pointed out, Gemini Ultra will be available only next year)

anhner··on Krita AI Diffusion
i think one could generate the background first and then the characters separately on a different layer, so any editing only affects them and not the background

Edit: just tried it and it mostly works. Generate background, then add pose, add new layer paint on top of pose, select area around character and click generate. The caveat is that it also generates a bit of background around the character, but it does not change it so dramatically

Have you read the article? It feels like you are defending the very idea the author is fighting against. Yes, we must accept that fact, and no, we must not let it affect our freedoms and our lives.

anhner··on EU tells Apple to open everything up to its rivals
I remember years ago, when the EU first announced they would force Apple to switch to USB-C (well, not specifically Apple, but mandate a single cable type), there were droves of users on HN wailing that "what business does EU have to dictate which cable companies should use?"

Yet here we are, everyone praising iPhone 15 for having a USB-C connector. I am looking forward to a couple of years down the line when we can say the same about the App Store.

Worldwide, Android has a bigger market share than iPhone and it also allows alternative stores, and lo and behold, none of the things that users here complain about have come to pass.

anhner··on Pixel 8 leak promises 7 years of OS updates
It'll take a lot more than that to get me to buy a Pixel phone (or any other Android, really).

1. Google needs to build up the reputation that they support phones for 7 years, currently there is no device from them that was ever supported that long.

2. Pixels are not officially sold in my country, even though I am from the European Union. I need to buy from a 3rd party with at least 50% markup and dubious support.

3. Even if I were to buy a Pixel phone, 50% of the differentiating features are not available in my country (or barely any country outside of the US) - like call screening, hold for me, book me a reservation (I forgot the name of this feature).

anhner··on Farms that create habitat key to food security and biodiversity
A little punctuation or an extra word would do wonders for this title's legibility...

"Farms that create habitat - key to food security and biodiversity"

"Farms that create habitat, key to food security and biodiversity"

"Farms that create habitat are key to food security and biodiversity"
