angryasian··on CodeStar – Quickly Develop, Build, and Deploy Applications on AWS
I don't care about lock in, and I just want something secure and easy to deploy an application. Pricing is important, but heroku gets expensive fast, and I'd eventually like something that I can manage myself once released and I can dedicate more time to.

I think this looks great.

angryasian··on Why There Are No New Social Networks
I think what a lot of people fail to mention is that messaging platforms have almost eliminated the need for a lot of social networking functionality. Kik, imessage, facebook message, and even text.
angryasian··on Instagram Stories hits 200M users, surpassing Snapchat
not a broadcast company

I wouldn't be so sure of that https://techcrunch.com/2017/03/14/vice-is-the-latest-to-prod...

angryasian··on Instagram Stories hits 200M users, surpassing Snapchat
Well I think to make this argument, you'd have to provide more points other than snapchat. In this case as many other have been pointing out, Instagram is just out executing them in terms of quality.

What other examples do you see this to be applicable ?

angryasian··on Instagram Stories hits 200M users, surpassing Snapchat
I don't know maybe you are young and new to the technology sector, but theres probably more stories within tech of the big corporation copying a new innovative startup and failing than there are of them succeeding.
angryasian··on Apple's Touch Bar Could Be a Flop
I personally hate the touchbar. I always have a keyboard hooked up to my mbp so I use it rarely to begin with. When I do use it, its primarily to adjust the volume. The fact that the layout changes and I can no longer really use muscle memory to do certain things makes it a pain for me to use.
angryasian··on Black Tesla Model 3 release candidate spotted driving in Silicon Valley
I personally love how they look. No need for cars to have a grill. The aesthetic is sleek and modern.
angryasian··on A startup is filling SF's empty luxury rentals
How do they get around violating rental leases ? Are they essentially subletting ?
angryasian··on Campaign to Buy Browsing Histories of Politicians Who Passed Anti-Privacy Law
while i don't disagree, you still have the option of not responding. Also I think what you mention is more of an issue with integrating systems with open standards. The alternative is using a closed system that only belongs to one vendor or revising the open standard to support privacy
angryasian··on Campaign to Buy Browsing Histories of Politicians Who Passed Anti-Privacy Law
I think this is a little premature until we know what exactly can be purchased and when. As of right now throwing money at this person seems like just giving him free money. Who is this person and is he trustworthy... what's he going to do with the money if he can't buy it ? Does he even know how to buy the data ?
angryasian··on Campaign to Buy Browsing Histories of Politicians Who Passed Anti-Privacy Law
what.. this doesn't make any sense and I don't know what Google has anything to do with this. Why can't you opt out of google ?

1. ISP monitor all your internet traffic. Google can only have access to what google services you opt in to use.

2. At this time we don't know how the ISP's will sell your internet history whether it be individual or in aggregate, but google doesn't sell your information.

3. I trust google's security more than ISPs

angryasian··on Buy Congress' Browsing Data
I think this is a little premature until we know what exactly can be purchased and when. As of right now throwing money at this person seems like just giving him free money. 21k is a lot of money and this is the second gofundme like this that I've seen. Who is this person and is he trustworthy ?
angryasian··on Facebook launches Stories in its main app
you're right but it certainly implies that there is no limit and can be easily circumvented. Example, they might delete what you uploaded, but that doesn't mean they didn't duplicate it and keep it around. legalspeak.
angryasian··on Facebook launches Stories in its main app
I'm pretty sure this only has to do with snaps and not stories, as the terms on their stories is much broader

"You grant Snapchat a world-wide, perpetual, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to host, store, use, display, reproduce, modify, adapt, edit, publish, create derivative works from, publicly perform, broadcast, distribute, syndicate, promote, exhibit, and publicly display that content in any form and in any and all media or distribution methods,”

angryasian··on Google Talk Is Being Discontinued
you're probably in the minority. When you look at the popularity of imessage and one of the big reasons people complain about allo is that there was no fallback.
angryasian··on Show HN: Steer – Get honest feedback from your team every week
Personally I think this is a failure in company culture. One on one's should be done face to face. Also if you're not cultivating a company culture where your reports can't speak up on anything with out retribution or fear, then something is wrong. I don't think this tool helps.

With that being said, looking at your landing page, its really hard to figure out how this works.

angryasian··on Apple releases snapchat-like app Clips
apple is another one of those companies that really have wanted to get into social. I really don't see this as a snap replacement unless people move to instagram stories. FB and imessage are really for more personal social groups. Snap still has the benefit of being somewhat anonymous for not so personal contacts, like online only groups of friends. Could this eat into Snap's usage, very likely.
angryasian··on Everyone loves Bernie Sanders. Except, it seems, the Democratic party
i disagree. Sanders ran a great grassroots campaign and his message resonated with many. Lets remember Bernie had major success in the rustbelt which was key to the presidential election. I believe he really wanted to push his message and what his supporters wanted to the future of the dem party. Had the dem party actually listened to him and aligned with his message, things may have been different.

Someone that is representing a large majority of voters in this country, and not going along with the democratic line.. I call a true patriot. I hope he never becomes a team player.

angryasian··on Police ask for whole city's Google searches, and a judge says yes
that is not how they make money. They make money by showing people ads. All they allow you as a user to do is specify attributes you're targeting and the people that view these ads ... match those attributes as best as possible
angryasian··on Police ask for whole city's Google searches, and a judge says yes
true, but with google you have a choice. ISP's are generally granted monopolies and most people don't have a choice. Google only hands over data when mandated by courts or government. ISP's are looking to actively share and sell your information.
angryasian··on Police ask for whole city's Google searches, and a judge says yes
google doesn't sell or share your personal information to anyone. Its a huge distinction.
angryasian··on Police ask for whole city's Google searches, and a judge says yes
I know everyone wants to hate on google, but I think we should be more worried about our government and ISP's

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/03/gop-senators-new...

no one is safe if this bill passes.

angryasian··on Police ask for whole city's Google searches, and a judge says yes
google uses it for advertising but doesn't hand it over to any one particular person or company.
angryasian··on Google Cloud Platform Free Tier
I don't know this might be off topic , but what is the difference now between google compute engine and google app engine flexible now.
angryasian··on The Not-So-Celebratory Reaction to Snap’s I.P.O. In Its Home Town
Agree with @danhak, this has less to do with gentrification and more about how they are affecting the community and businesses. Venice boardwalk is a major tourist attraction for the westside. Where snap is located, used to be filled with eateries, bars and other various shops. All the buildings that snapchat are taking have made these areas a ghost town.

They could easily move to Playa Vista literally 10 minutes away, where they are developing a huge business park area and where FB is moving in. I can understand why the residents there are upset.

angryasian··on Ask HN: What's the one thing that let you grow the most as a developer?
As an older engineer, I agree with this completely. When I was younger the thing that helped me the most was working with more experienced, better developers.
angryasian··on Snap Jumps in Debut After App Maker Raises $3.4B in IPO
>big in music = wanting to be a media company

I would disagree, being a publishing company, a movie review company, a comic book company, video company ... these are all things Myspace was attempting, is not the same as being a music company.

angryasian··on 94-year-old Lithium-Ion Battery Inventor Introduces Solid State Battery
I hope when I'm 94 I'm still as productive as this man is
angryasian··on Snap Jumps in Debut After App Maker Raises $3.4B in IPO
to me this all sounds like a company with little revenue and no focus and too much money that they are just trying everything to see what sticks to get them to bigger revenue
angryasian··on Snap Jumps in Debut After App Maker Raises $3.4B in IPO
I disagree, Myspace could have done incredibly well if they focused on their strengths in music early on. Instead they wanted to be a media company going in a bunch of different directions, which sounds very very familiar. Snap is doing publishing with content partners, they announced special formatted tv shows, hardware and glasses, AR and adtech.
