angrais··on Stack Overflow questions are being flooded with answers from ChatGPT
What if it takes less time to hack together such an API than prompt engineering and back-to-back conversation with a bot whose results you have to verify anyway?

I imagine it would if you're familiar with the language, Framework, tools, etc.

angrais··on Adventures in Advent of Code
Could you expand on this, ideally with a python implementation?
angrais··on Adventures in Advent of Code
What if you used a map and stored the value as a key? Then get all keys? Could work as a simple alternative and you could check if values are in it.

Requires thinking if you want to implement set difference or intersection. I just figured depending on needs using existing built-in types may be fun.

pyenv will solve your multiple python on one machine problem :)

Have you considered git LFS, i.e., git Large File Storage?

I've used it to store 20-80GB of files in a repo and it works quite well.

Thanks for your detailed response and sharing your experiences.

>> I say this as an autistic person with a combined type having some generally male exclusive and some female exclusive traits.

Are you referring to non-exclusive "traits" when describing how you have both male and female traits? I was a bit confused about the "female phonotype" part of your response as it implies having traits through genetics at birth.

Or am I misunderstandings and such gender-specific traits are developed through environmental/societal conditions?

angrais··on Show HN: HiSHtory: Your shell history in context, synced, and queryable
How does this differ from fzf, peco or autin?

A table comparing these and existing tools would be ideal to show what's unique about this one.

This is the default on ohmyzsh :)
angrais··on Ask HN: What are some great items you own or want?
The ember does look amazing and like a normal mug. So if your enjoyment has increased through its use then it certainly could be worth the cost for others.

I agree, the Thermos equipment is typically functionally rather than designerly, which I think the Ember is.

angrais··on Ask HN: What are some great items you own or want?
Couldn't you achieve the same with any standard Thermos mug? (<$10)

Why did you say "what we call" in reference to the Vietnam war?

Is there another name for it? Besides the obvious name of whatever the "enemy" called it at the time?

angrais··on How much does cocaine cost around the world?
No programmer I know is using it and I've never met one who has been. Perhaps it's the circles and companies you've worked for?
angrais··on Ask HN: How to deal with after lunch fatigue?
At lunch? I'd love to, but like most people working in offices, I imagine this advise doesn't suit their schedules.
angrais··on Getting Out of a Rut
For reference, I thought of those points of the fly so perhaps you or others can think of positive and negative points too.

I agree with you, which is why I personally fold down the top half of my bedding.

As for design/looks I likely described this wrong. Bedding is designed to be made full on the bed. It's not a circular argument. The design is best when the bed is made as you can see whatever design is on the pillows, sheet, etc.

Another reason: it's a small accomplishment that could be a good motivator for your day (especially if you're depressed).

angrais··on Getting Out of a Rut
Make a bed means to move the duvet/top sheet so it covers the whole bed.

Reasons that you'd want to do this: hygiene (air doesn't get where you sleep - both a good and bad thing), and design (looks as it should).

angrais··on Fast file synchronization and network forwarding for remote development
Have you considered plugins for vscode, e.g., vscode remote and vs code containers?
angrais··on What If LaTeX Had Instant Preview?
I'm a bit confused by this and the posts above. In vscode it is possible to configure it such that on every save a new pdf is generated. You can open the PDF to the right and it's essentially instant preview.

I've used this config when writing papers, etc, and it works flawlessly.

As for diffs (what has changed), it is also possible to color code the changes too.

I can't recall how I configured viscose, but it was a fairly standard approach.

angrais··on What Is Bayesian/Frequentist Inference? (2012)
>> What's randomness in a coin toss? If we had all the information we could perfectly predict the result of a toss. But if we know nothing then at most we can say is that both outcomes are equally probable.

Perhaps I'm being dense or overall don't understand, but how is this possible? What is "all the information"? Isn't it at most likely they the outcome is 50/50?

angrais··on Ask HN: How do remote first businesses maintain cultural cohesion?
The whole point is if you live in say India you'll be paid a rate as the same skilled person in India. This is independent of skin tone.

I'm not sure why you've brought up both "passport/work permission lottery" and an individual's race.

angrais··on Ask HN: How do remote first businesses maintain cultural cohesion?
How's that a negative aspect? For many, that seems fair as it means you get paid the local rate and so can live anywhere in the world comfortably.

Remote first does not necessarily mean bay area pay while living in a low cost of living country.

angrais··on Elon Musk moves ahead with Twitter deal in 13D filing
But he didn't do any of that? He owns parts of companies that have. That is not even similar.

Why do you think and attribute him to those achievements?

angrais··on Lowest “Who is hiring?” Post Count in 30 Months
Do you have data for the past 12 months rather than only October? That way, we can observe how gradual (or not) the curve was.

All data in CSV format would be ideal if someone has it to share via gist or such.

What do you gain by donating money to the university? Is there a tax break for such donations? What good came out of your donations? Is there traceability and accountability of each dollar donated?

I ask as I simply cannot fathom donating money to a university where the overarching aim is often to make money.

angrais··on Nearly half of America’s overweight people don’t realize they’re overweight
>> If I’m overweight by those standards, it makes me skeptical of articles like this, and sometimes I even question the validity of the entire obesity epidemic

Based on your description, you are not overweight. The most concerning part of your comment however is that you would jump to question the entire obesity epidemic?

I mean seriously, just look around, particularly outside your own circles and where social deprestion exists in your town.

Consider search engines and searching for content more generally: are you certain that natural language is most often used?

When I search for content, I use key terms to produce refined and better results. If you don't use such terms then what you're looking for may be difficult to find.
