andrewshatnyy··on Ask HN: At a peak of my dev career, I hate my life
Mate, switch countries. I assume you're in the US - But honestly doesn't matter.

Move to non-western countries where friendship and relationship are valued more than wealth.

I did that whenever I had a burnout. And it wasn't easy for a Russian kid.

But moving will expose you to struggle, which life is all about. Embrace it stay open and you will find friends.

andrewshatnyy··on Americans Are Among the Most Stressed People in the World, Poll Finds
I moved to San Francisco from Russia and lived there for over 10 years. Despite unstable life in Russia, with each year I was becoming increasingly anxious whilst living in the States. Although I was making a bank, it felt like I could loose it all any day if I’d became ill. I left that country less than a year ago. It’s magical how exponentially happy and calm I am after moving to Australia.

US is a country for people in their 20s who are either rage at EDM festivals or those who busy building startups. There’s nothing to do if you poor or ill - you fucked!

Those diagrams are badass! Anyone knows what was used to make em?
andrewshatnyy··on Why I do not like Hugo
Hence me saying, fork it and change whatever you don't like.
andrewshatnyy··on Why I do not like Hugo
Not following the analogy here... But one thing is to post a blog, another is to post a blog and share it on hacker news to generate feedback.
andrewshatnyy··on Why I do not like Hugo
I love Hugo. By far it is the fastest blog engine that I have seen. If I need a custom shit done then I will fork the repo and build the needed stuff myself.

Bitching about the free software is unethical. Moreover, the source code is accessible. Change whatever code if you don't like it.

In my experience I've had PRs rejected, so what? People have opinions and not everyone one think of your issue as the blocker. Move on.

"Why don't I like scrambled eggs at that place" - no one cares. Make them yourself or go to another restaurant.

andrewshatnyy··on Moving to Canada from San Francisco Where to Start?
Cheers for the advice! I am of Russian origin and climate shouldn't be a problem for the most part. I guess it's time to reach out to recruiters over there.
andrewshatnyy··on Moving to Canada from San Francisco Where to Start?
Thanks, I've heard good things about Ottawa will defo look into tech there.
andrewshatnyy··on Moving to Canada from San Francisco Where to Start?
I reckon the automation field is the way to go rather than actual dev. or you just decided to switch gears?
andrewshatnyy··on Moving to Canada from San Francisco Where to Start?
I am still looking for Software Eng. positions startups are fine. My wife is a medical doctor who's willing to work but needs a certification. We look for an urban setting. Costal climate would be is what we aiming for, but really that depends on the tech scene.

I guess my biggest issue would be is to get a visa for entire family. Not sure how it is in Canada yet... USA has been a hell in that sense.

Indeed. In that case it sounds like natural selection to me.
andrewshatnyy··on North Korea sentences US tourist to 15 years in prison
Can someone explain me why civil Americans go to such places? Recipe is simple as pie: if you have to travel to countries rulled by nutjobs DON'T!

You can't expect human rights from your own country be respected everywhere.

andrewshatnyy··on Ask HN: I don't like my new job, now what?
I might be wrong, but it looks to me you lack confidence. Every time that happens do anything outside of your comfort zone. In professional context: Learn a new programming language, get familiar with a new framework, study fundamental CS. In social context: Go out more, talk to ladies if you're guy, talk to boys if you're girl.

I sense in your case you're dealing with passioned/opinionated people and you should take constructive criticism and advance yourself. But don't take shit from them.

Have your own opinion on things even if it's not the right one. I love reasonably opinionated conversations because I can learn new from those if I am wrong or incompetent in certain areas.

In the end you don't owe them anything and they don't owe you anything (aside from money).

Think of your job as a process of you helping the company with your talent and time. Move on if it's not fun for you and you don't learn anything new.

andrewshatnyy··on Shift.js: Swift to JavaScript Transpiler
Meant to say JS -> binary so you can have a node/express server compiled and running. Browser JS is another story of cource
andrewshatnyy··on Shift.js: Swift to JavaScript Transpiler
Concept of compiling things is awesome. But I refuse to understand how making compiled language -> interpreted language is a thing... It should be other way around. I'd love to see something solid like js -> c compiler so my js code runs quick and efficient.
andrewshatnyy··on ReactOS as a second OS in Russian government's software freedom effort
Now when Минсвязи (Ministry of Communications) of Russia is interested it is a scheme.
andrewshatnyy··on ReactOS as a second OS in Russian government's software freedom effort
This is just another money laundering scheme for Russian Officials. It's the same thing as GLONAS or Russian iPhone alternative. It will take long time, ton of resources and will not work.

TIL: there's Crystal programming language. However it looks more like Sinatra to me. Cool work tho.
