I enjoy working in the agriculture, crop science, music, and nutrition (for either humans or animals) domains. Currently an engineering manager, but at heart a software engineer, mainly Clojure, but many other tools & languages too.

Interesting that Microsoft is not mentioned.

andreiursan··on Samsung Galaxy S III dethrones iPhone 4S as smartphone sales champ for Q3 2012
exactly my thought, wondering why it made first page on HN.
andreiursan··on iPad mini
I double that. Plus for me the weight of iPad Mini (308g) is a killer feature, mainly because I plan to use it for reading and playing games.
andreiursan··on Microsoft Surface Preorder
What looks funny to me is that right next to the preorder button there is a print link - I assume that that is just in case you decide not to preorder but to print the page. LOL
andreiursan··on DirectXTK October 2012 release
there is also ExEn, but it looks that is abandoned by the creator. http://exen.codeplex.com/
andreiursan··on Emacs in Sublime, increase productivity
I was loking for something like this for quite a while. I'm installing it right now.
andreiursan··on DirectXTK October 2012 release
it looks that they are rewritting some of the XNA features in C++11, e.g. SpriteFont, SpriteBatch, BasicEffect:

I just started playing with it. Looks like capybara in javascript.
andreiursan··on CSS Tricks: Thinking Async
My bad. Unfortunately I cannot edit the submission anymore. Or I don't see the edit button - which I don't think is the case.
andreiursan··on CSS Tricks: Thinking Async
I'm trying to do that, but I cannot find the edit button for it :|, I think that is not editable anymore.

andreiursan··on Linus Torvalds dissects the ontological fabric of reality just to explain tags.
I agree with your observation but let's remember that we are talking about Linus. He usually replies with a flamethrower - mainly when he believes in another way of doing things, but in the end he has a point. And that point is flame worth (IMO).
andreiursan··on Grooveshark is not Free Anymore - subscription start at $4/month
Funny and weird, today Grooveshark works for free. I assume that the subscription thing is a sign that Grooveshark is not doing so well. But the way they did it, without giving proper explanations on their website is at least a sign of bad management.

Or maybe someone cracked their system, but I don't think so...

andreiursan··on Grooveshark is not Free Anymore - subscription start at $4/month
On their website http://grooveshark.com/ there are no info/details on the subscriptions. But the fact is that I cannot listen my playlists anymore.

andreiursan··on Acta protests: Thousands take to streets across Europe
A youtube video of the protest in Cluj Napoca, http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v... . Cluj Napoca is a city in Romania, not a big one but 2000+ protested against ACTA.
andreiursan··on Tim O'Reilly: Really, Google is evil now? Let's Get Real. How About Apple?
Yet another Google vs Apple. In the article he gave example the Apple factories in China and the employees in China. But what about Google's yellow badge employees in USA? http://www.andrewnormanwilson.com/portfolios/70411-workers-l... Remember?
andreiursan··on Waking up at 5am to code
I'm almost in the same boat with the guy that wrote the article. Like him I also read 1year ago, on hn, about a guy who started to code on his projects starting with 5 a.m. because in the evenings he spent time with his fiance.

After I read it I tried it for a while, and it worked, I had to stop because then I was also a student and I was also working full time + I also had allocated gf time.

I will try it again, I hope I can get more things done in this way.

P.S. Thank you for/for posting the article!

andreiursan··on Request for Startups: Kill Hollywood.
I believe that this is a very good idea. Actors right now are products, and they might go into some kind of startups where they can have a better share of what they worth.

Maybe I didn't understood it very well but look what Johnny Depp says: ~"after beeing turned in a product by a very huge corporation, that the hands over me"~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v...

Hence I believe that here is a problem that can be solved by startups.

andreiursan··on Apple upgrades MacBook Pro line with faster processors, gfx cards, more storage
"also the removal of the optical drive" That will make me very, very,...very happy! I hate the idea that I have a thing in my Mac that I don't use and adds extra weight and complexity to the design :|. That will be my main reason to upgrade my 2010 15" hi-res anti-glare Macbook Pro.

(I'm sticking with the Pro line because it has a 15" screen, bellow that I don't like).

andreiursan··on Location-based data wiping for Android phones
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/18/apple-launches-find-my-ip... funny that nobody commented that iPhone had this :).
andreiursan··on Android 4.0 SDK Now Available
If Android Keeps going this way I might do more Android Development in the future, IMO by version 5, android will have an mature API - not that now it doesn't this is jut my opinion. As an Apple fan boy is nice to see that iOS is getting some healthy competition - in the end both platforms will win if the competition is High.

My Context: I only did iOS development and a little Android. I love apple technology because works so well and is so well integrated mainly with their products.

andreiursan··on Jewish problems
Just want to say something about the math problems: I'm living in Romania, somehow closer to Rusia. Anyway, in Highschool I took private math lessons from an over 70 years old math teacher - man, he was so good at finding solutions to similar problems with those in the url. Sometimes the quickest solution is to construct your own function. I do enjoy the time when I had to solve problems like those, it is quite a creative process.

andreiursan··on What happened to all the female developers?
my experience: Where I work, on my floor we are either a proportion of 50% - 50% or 40%-60% (in favor for the Girls). Hey, but this is Romania, we don't have feminist movements and so on. Different society. Even in college we are something like 40%-60% (males win here) but we don't take it as a big deal... Btw found CS girls in college that were smarter than me on some fields of this domain :), and I know where to ask if I have a question about those fields.

other answer: Depends on the "society" although while I was in the USA everybody was blaming it... and believe me is not because of it, is because of those who like to blame it ;).

Last but not least... my girlfriend is a developer.
