That's what India did with its UID, Aadhar.
The initial days were so bad with security. Anyone and everyone could take the id number and fetch info about you.
Now you can lock access with biometrics and even after unlocking it auto locks in 5 minutes.
You can also generate a virtual unique id number to prevent fingerprinting across various services.
There are still some cases where the security of data seems to be questionable, but it's working there.
They also have oAuth support for websites to use aadhar profile. But not many services have integrated with it yet.
Hardcore developers != A knowledge about the internet/how front end works. I don't think it's even a point to mention at all.
I picked up programming 6 years before I got access to the internet, in 2015.
Computing has developed so much these days, it's like expecting a Neuro to be your Oncologist.
They may know basically how stuff works, but not everything related to a computer.
Cloudflare doesn't magically put itself between you and the website.
They're like the NRA/gun manufacturer, they build the tools, the usage is Up to the websites.
And most of the web admins are lazy or not knowledgeable or just smart to not want to deal with negative stuff that comes with hosting a website.
So the question is, does the website you are visiting respect its users?
Irony is some of the most popular, "file download" sites use cloudflare to protect themselves from scraping and spam too.
I noticed a lot of people on the comment thread never open the link, most of the time the answers are right there but the comments are always like, the above.
I found the comments under the TikTok ban thread the other day and asked,
Why are you so concerned about China, which can do nothing, while other apps collect the data in the country you are in has the actual power to jail you because, you support abortion or LGBTQ.
The mental gymnastics were, US has a due process of law and China is an authoritarian dictatorship, while they still live in the US and China can't extradite them.
People constantly fail to realize, the views change, what's legal today could be illegal tomorrow, and you will absolutely be profiled as a risk.
Even if they can't prove you are guilty, the absolute nightmare of going through the due process of law and being tagged as a risk is something to think about and take it seriously. The concern must not be if the app is based on what country, it must be why does this app want to know so much about me, or why does the govt need to know my every opinion.
US trusted Dick Cheney's words and we all know what happened.
You are just not able to comprehend, the difference in USD and INR.
I will give you a simple example for you to comprehend.
The cost of Unlimited 5G internet in India with 2GB allowance per day billed at 1 YEAR is 43 USD.
It's 80 USD at minimum in US per MONTH.
The cost of groceries for a 4 person family per month is 243 USD.
The mortgage payment on a decent 3BHK house I pay is 182 USD per month.
The cost of living and expenses in India is way cheaper.
I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve by emphasising 9$/hr coders. It's less in US, it's a lot in India, you are not even in the middle class at that point.
They hired some competent coders if they paid that rate in India. Comparing competency of a coder paid in USD vs INR is plain foolish.
The successful Indian Space Research Organization is probably paying $15/hr to it's engineers if you are to question their competency next, I'm not sure if you even understand anything.
I mean that's the reason they outsource, it's cheaper because they have to pay way less in USD, but can hire the same level of talent, if needed. Since in INR it's a lot.
And why should they convert to USD, that's completely foolish, they live in India LOL.
Why do you think a lot of people come to US, even if it means working low income jobs. They send their money to India where it's a lot. And hoard a lot of wealth there.
But the bicycle design wasn't determined by influencers. It was defined by years of design improvements by multiple innovators. Influencers bought us phones with glass backs, no battery, non existent headphone jack. Weird hole on the screen, curved edges, camera bumps. The design is definitely not right, okay they didn't bring it but they normalized it so much that companies are in pursuit of their requirements.
$9 converted to Indian currency is Rs720 with a conversion rate of 80Rs per dollar which is around 3 lakhs a month, which is a lot in India, equates to a mid six figure salary here based on what you can afford. I'm not sure how you are trying to make a point here.
Also it's unfortunate that you retort to blaming the coders and mild racism, instead of accepting Boeing messed up. FAA not once in it's reports nor any aviation experts blamed the code, Boeing went cheap and removed a redundant device the MCAS system needs during a malfunction.
Even during the incident HN was quick to blame pilots for being unskilled, now it's the coders mistake?
The American company went greedy and went cheap, ignored its engineers, bent FAA over it's back to make rules that suit them, ignored all the warnings. Tried to brush away opinions. And was fully aware of the issue. Instead it tried to hide it. I'm not sure where your so called $9 coder sits here.
People still believe earth is flat, Trump won, govt employees in Pentagon using TikTok, Trump refusing to use secured phone initially, QAnon, etc and you are asking if espionage is possible in this modern world. Your phone itself is a spy. A "spy" can literally inject virus and siphon so much data. Also espionage is not done MI, JB style. Most real world espionage is so dormant and slow, mostly observing and collecting information and passing on.
Blame YouTubers/Influencers for that, they constantly push for uniformity with "comparisons".
Samsung released a new phone?
Top phone YouTubers will quickly compare how they like the feel of iPhone or Pixel vs Samsung and how it holds on their hand, how it's matte, how it's sized and companies want to win those points. So satisfying them is a priority.
So we end up with matte black, thin, rectangles.
I know of a startup that is incubated at an accelerator, and the only reason they had to be at the workplace was because they may lose seats if not occupied.
But seriously, again, China can do jackshit to the person even if they have his entire life data, vs US if it finds certain word or conversation or searches related to certain term.
I think it's foolish that people are afraid of Chinese spyware rather than being paranoid about every spyware.
Does your phone not have any US spyware apps?
Whom are you trying to protect yourself from, the country that has jurisdiction on you or the country that can't even extradite you.
Top of my mind. Discovery, apart from devs (even that is a stretch), when I say app people quickly open play store/app store. When I say you just gotta click add to the home screen. They're like, you don't have an app? Isn't that just a failure of UX?
I once tried to convince a founder so hard to go with webapp, I gave every advantage I could think of, then in our survey not one of our users was comfortable, they all weirded out. But hey web app works if it's forced like in a enterprise or MDM setting, but people would rather open app stores.
Despite the flak, consumers trust app stores at some level than a random website, even if its more secure since it can't access a lot of APIs, but they don't know that.
Every framework ionic, flutter etc I've tried since Cordova has had some weird feel to it. I can quickly recognize a webapp packaged as native in the first two mins, most of the users I worked with just think it's slow or janky since they Don't understand it's a webapp vs native.
Ford and Tesla? Ford exited India after failing multiple times in one of Asia's biggest markets, followed closely by Chevrolet, GM. In fact if not for Chevrolet, GM never even had a presence here. Tesla has not even entered here.
Selling in some handful countries != Success. What are their numbers in those countries, and how many countries are they leading in Vs Toyota, Hyundai.
Who said AI is killing dev jobs, now Devs have an alternative employment as a car mechanic.
Drop kubernetes or VMs into the car and DevOps guys can also join.
It would be so fun to hear "Umm your ingress seems to use older API, I have to update it for the gearbox to engage" and then see them run kubectl apply.
Lol, this is absolute funny, every example you came up with has already been there for years. Aren't cars being modded every day, ECU tuning, engine mods, etc?
Go ahead sue the company, companies aren't some innocent babies, they can afford to quickly dismiss the claim by just pointing towards the mod.
Auto Companies have never been held liable for a car that has been modded.
Does it waste money to be sued? Yes!
But does it save a lot of money for consumers and is much better for the environment? Yes!
If companies are greedy/selfish about their profits then consumers don't need to think about how right to repair hurts those companies.
