amq··on Driverless robotaxi fleet paralyzed for hours in San Francisco
Vienna, Austria: public transport costs 1 EUR per day without any limits. It is also extremely well developed and reliable. Most people, especially without kids don't even consider getting a car.
amq··on Setting up a Pi Hole made my home network faster
A hosted alternative to pi-hole which will work wherever you go, also with a smartphone on mobile data: NextDNS.
amq··on Why do USB-C hubs still have USB 2.0 ports? (2021)
All I want is simple reliable hub with:

- HDMI

- 2x USB A

- MicroSD

amq··on Upwork to Charge Clients 5%
For a bit of context: Upwork (back then known as oDesk) originally had a flat fee of 10% paid by contractors. Around the time they acquired Elance they changed the fee structure to make it 20% for contracts under $500. Now they are adding additional 5% on top paid by clients.

Note that a withdrawal to a non-US bank is an additional flat $30.

To be fair, until now, Upwork was also charging clients 3% for payment processing, and as far as I understood those will be now included in the 5%.

amq··on Littlefs – A little fail-safe filesystem designed for microcontrollers
I am using it in a commercial IoT project where the MCU flash is split into 2 parts: usual program area and a file system to store persistent and temporary data like ota. The main purpose is flash usage leveling which especially critical on MCU-internal flash, and as a bonus, it's just neat to have a real filesystem where you can work with FILE*. In about 2 years in the field - no issues.
amq··on WebAssembly: The New Kubernetes?
The new Docker, rather. We would still need something like Kubernetes to orchestrate.
amq··on Bitwarden: Free, open-source password manager
I wish google would provide a basic password manager as part of their workspace. It's 2022 and passwords are more painful than ever. In an ideal world we would have SSO everywhere, but it's just not happening.
amq··on Mullvad: Diskless infrastructure using stboot in beta
Or disable usb in bios entirely
amq··on Lua: Good, Bad, and Ugly Parts (2012)
You can use ts-node to avoid the compilation step with typescript.
amq··on Local man switches to Arch, tells no one
Soon: I run linux on m1.
amq··on Fleet, a Lightweight IDE from JetBrains
Is VS Code slow? I mean, Notepad is faster, but considering that VS Code is JS-based, it's actually fast and responsive.
amq··on WSL2 can now mount Linux ext4 disks directly
I have the opposite experience, but maybe it's just because you and me know the quirks of each system.
amq··on WireGuard for Windows now uses high speed kernel implementation
There are ChaCha20 SIMD implementations / optimizations for x86, ARM, MIPS and possibly others:

amq··on Open source applications for macOS
Based on the current track record, I'd bet on Windows, but it might not be technically possible to open source everything due to third-party parts. Fun fact: Windows source is already available to governments under the Government Security Program.
amq··on Open source applications for macOS
Coming from Windows, I have just 2 small wishes: ability to drag windows to the edges to quickly organize them side by side, and ability to disable the drag lock - you currently either have to click or wait for a second after dragging anything.
amq··on How I re–over-engineered my home network for privacy and security
If apple and sonos rely on dns to contact their ntp servers, it should be relatively easy to spoof.
amq··on YouTube starts to require a credit card or ID to verify the age in EU (2020)
Here are quite a few workarounds: https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/ljp02h/

I imagine all of them will eventually stop working though.

amq··on YouTube starts to require a credit card or ID to verify the age in EU (2020)
Came across this when opening some random youtube video with profanity. This is how it looks: https://imgur.com/a/4K6ehFw
amq··on After criticism, Apple to only seek abuse images flagged in multiple nations
A backdoor is a backdoor.
amq··on AMD Is Working on Its Own Hybrid x86 CPU: Patent Filing
What's stopping you from shutting down cores with the traditional big-only design? I'm looking at per-core power consumption of my AMD 5800H right now, and I can see that it is able to fully shut down up to 7 cores out of 8, bringing down the entire package power consumption as low as 3.8 W.
amq··on Apple's iCloud+ “VPN”
The exit node operator can extract useful information even without knowing your IP, especially until Encrypted Client Hello (ECH) is ubiquitous.
amq··on Apple's iCloud+ “VPN”
Potentially, this provides troves of data to the exit node operators (CloudFlare, Fastly, Akamai, ...). Yes, it's the same with all VPNs and ISPs, but I think users should be made aware that now instead of your ISP analyzing the data, an even bigger and more capable corporation is. And if Apple is controlling the entire onion chain (I would be surprised if they weren't), they have even more data available, mainly with a corresponding IP of yours. In the net sum, you are hiding the transmitted data from your ISP and the IP from the sites you visit, but you are handing over all this information to a centralized place - Apple and exit node providers. Potentially, they can use the information to connect the dots more easily and fully than any ISP or site ever could.
amq··on FaceTime on the web requires Chrome or Edge, no mention of Firefox
They did mention firefox during the presentation.
amq··on Twitter confirms Twitter Blue
I would actually pay $2.99/mo for firefox.
amq··on How Facebook encodes videos
But what exactly was the problem you were trying to solve?
amq··on How Facebook encodes videos
Plus maybe denoise in front to keep the size lower.
amq··on GKE Autopilot: an nodeless and elastic Kubernetes cluster mode
With this available, why would I want to use Cloud Run?
amq··on Apple silicon M1 as-a-Service
