amichail··on Ask HN: Why doesn't Apple provide Xcode 27's markdown editor as a separate app?
I like WYSIWYG editing.
amichail··on Ask HN: Why doesn't Apple provide Xcode 27's markdown editor as a separate app?
It would be mostly the same code. But loading Xcode is overkill when you just want to edit a markdown file.
amichail··on Ask HN: Why does it matter if no one reads your novel as long as the AIs do?
The novel might have some interesting ideas that are relevant to the user’s prompt.
amichail··on Ask HN: Why does it matter if no one reads your novel as long as the AIs do?
This will be the reality of math soon. Complicated proofs will only be checked completely by AI.
amichail··on Ask HN: Why does it matter if no one reads your novel as long as the AIs do?
A novel not read by humans could still influence future novels indirectly because its ideas are mentioned in AI responses. And you would get credit and financial compensation for those ideas that are mentioned.
amichail··on Ask HN: Why does it matter if no one reads your novel as long as the AIs do?
But you could still get credit and financial compensation.

Mathematicians write proofs that only a few people read in full and understand. And yet, they are fine with that.

amichail··on Ask HN: Why does it matter if no one reads your novel as long as the AIs do?
Mathematicians seem content with having only a few people read and understand their proofs in full.
amichail··on Ask HN: Why haven't people vibe coded popular 80s word processors as TUI apps?
Maybe one issue is that word processors from the 80s are not described in sufficient detail on today's web.
amichail··on Ask HN: Should we stop "correcting" AI writing so it improves English for us?
Your choices are tea and coffee.

Your choices are tea or coffee.

amichail··on Ask HN: What do you think of this novel slider puzzle? [video, full rules, beta]
BTW, a beta is also available for macOS (the latest version of which was approved after I made this post):

amichail··on Ask HN: What do you think of this novel slider puzzle? [video, full rules, beta]
There's a tutorial in the game.

And here's a shorter description:

Tile Wipeout is a row-and-column rotation puzzle about matching colors and shapes.

You rotate rows and columns to move tiles through fixed gates. Matching a tile's color and shape to a gate removes the tile, while other tiles cause both the tile and gate to change shape.

Empty spaces passing through gates create new tiles.

Your goal is to leave as much of the grid empty as you can in the given number of moves. Note that removing every tile may not always be possible.

amichail··on Ask HN: Are functional programmers more upset about how good AI is at coding?
If AI is already good at this, then it will naturally lead programmers who may not be good in that respect in that direction anyway via the code that it generates.

In other words, being a human expert in writing high quality implementations is less important now.

amichail··on Ask HN: Are functional programmers more upset about how good AI is at coding?
The point is the details of the implementation don't matter that much anymore. It's just something for the AI to work out — much like assembly code generation is for compilers.
amichail··on Ask HN: Are functional programmers more upset about how good AI is at coding?
Maybe that's what most programmers using hybrid languages are secretly thinking.
amichail··on Ask HN: Are functional programmers more upset about how good AI is at coding?
That's not what I asked.
amichail··on Ask HN: Do older programmers/CS academics view AI safety as a form of arrogance?
I think for older programmers/CS academics, the second most surprising thing about the ChatGPT breakthrough in 2022 was that people cared about AI safety.
amichail··on Ask HN: Is there a website that tracks excessive writes to SSDs in OS/app betas?
MacBooks are like that.
amichail··on Ask HN: Is there a website that tracks excessive writes to SSDs in OS/app betas?
On some laptops, it requires a complete motherboard replacement.
amichail··on Ask HN: Is there a website that tracks excessive writes to SSDs in OS/app betas?
What about people who want their laptop to last 10 years?

amichail··on Mochizuki's ABC Conjecture proof is unformalizable
Here's the report: https://github.com/katobungen/LANA_report_202607/blob/pdf/LA...
amichail··on Ask HN: Why is not using AI considered a form of arrogance?
She lived long enough to see this miracle come to fruition and yet she doesn't want to check it out?
amichail··on Ask HN: Why is not using AI considered a form of arrogance?
Not on Hacker News though.
amichail··on Ask HN: Why didn't the C64 come with Simons' BASIC in the box from 1983 onward?
He would still have made use of the MS BASIC license, but the addition of the Simons' BASIC cartridge in the box from 1983 onward would have changed the lives of many hobby coders.
amichail··on Microsoft's 6502 BASIC is now Open Source (2025)
Maybe they could have implemented a useful subset of Pascal.
amichail··on Microsoft's 6502 BASIC is now Open Source (2025)
Do you think computing history would have been much different if Microsoft made a 6502 Pascal interpreter instead?
amichail··on Ask HN: Why disparage AI while attributing ideas to AI when written with it?
The problem is that most people on social media don't think like that.
amichail··on Ask HN: Why disparage AI while attributing ideas to AI when written with it?
I mean if they don't think AI is particularly creative, why attribute novel ideas that you had but wrote with the help of AI to the AI?
amichail··on [dead]
Even when you can detect when something is written by AI, you don't have to criticize it if the content is good/interesting.

But denigrating AI on social media is helpful if you think it can delay your unemployment as a result of AI.

amichail··on Ask HN: Are there any social media sites that are AI positive?
An exchange of ideas doesn’t need to be personal.
