ameen··on Amazon started a Twitter war because Jeff Bezos was pissed
For my fellow Americans, pissed in British English means “drunk” - which makes it even more hilarious.
ameen··on We are far from a better Heroku for production apps in a hyper cloud
Some folks don’t take kindly to lofty claims and name-dropping just to rile up interest.

I’ve run production apps on Heroku in the past, best possible service for small teams. Gitlab? Given how expensive it is - I’m not so sure.

ameen··on How Uber Deals with Large iOS App Size
Connectivity at airports is not the best - if you’re on an expensive data plan those extra MBs cost a pretty penny which might put off the customer.

You need to think about the larger picture.

ameen··on How Uber Deals with Large iOS App Size
Not sure what to make of this. I’m Indian and the last time I was in India, there was strict execution of the seatbelt law and offenders were made to wait and fined heavily. Most drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Maybe because it was in Chennai, a southern state and not in Mumbai or Delhi.

ameen··on India's artisanal fountain pens are making their mark
Ha! A fellow Chelpark fan, those were the days!
ameen··on Waymo CEO dismisses Tesla self-driving plan: “This is not how it works”
I’m not sure if I feel easy about this “statistic” - deaths per mile?? These are humans, and more importantly to the business - paying customers.

If my product has the possibility of killing my customer, I’d probably not be comfortable with making it market ready (without massively improving its safety features).

ameen··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
Do you also support terrorists planning and announcing attacks openly? Because that’s what was contained in Amazon’s letter to Parler - 98 instances of real threats against minorities, press, legislators, etc.

Discourse has always had limits of decency, and when that cannot be ensured - the very tool or network becomes a national security concern. Conservatives aren’t the issue - it’s the batshit crazy terrorists that aren’t contained.

Their legal challenges with Apple might’ve put a dampener

You’re still able to employ critical thinking. I’d say the lack of critical thinking has led us here.
ameen··on Sony publishes an official Linux driver for Playstation 5 DualSense controllers
Funny how my most played games are WZ and Dota as well

I do use Mac instead of Linux for development but I did use Debian/Ubuntu as my main partition for a few years.

These companies that proselytize fairness and social justice are the ones that seek to keep modern slavery intact: https://www.cnet.com/news/apple-coca-cola-nike-lobbying-on-c...

Imagine wanting to profit from forced labor. Disgusting

ameen··on Tesla's market cap now accounts for roughly 1/3rd of the global automaker market
Maybe availability has improved now. As the child suggests it was about the Tesla shingles.
ameen··on Tesla's market cap now accounts for roughly 1/3rd of the global automaker market
While this sounds good as an hypothesis - the ground reality is far from this, Tesla build quality is below average at best w QA being non-existent. Tesla Insurance is an unproven entity and horribly mismanaged. Eg: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/tesla-insurance-clai...

Many potential Tesla solar customers (that I know of) have ended up using other solutions as Tesla simply didn’t have stock availability - it’s a novelty product line.

Many “investors” do not know the ground reality and base their decisions on the Twitter feed of an individual.

ameen··on Apple Preps Next Mac Chips with Aim to Outclass Highest-End PCs
I wonder if they meant IPS LCD screens, because most laptop screens used TN Panels.
ameen··on How the CCP Does Job Promotions
Agreed, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore come to mind. China isn’t unique in being able to build infrastructure at an acceptable pace.
ameen··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
Especially since it’s unified memory between the CPU and GPU - no wonder they were showing off mobile games on a desktop device
ameen··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
I guess the cooling let’s them tweak the CPU clocks accordingly? Wonder if we can hack the Mac mini with water blocks and squeeze higher clocks. The memory limitation makes it a dud though.
ameen··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
Which makes it worse, Intel Macs look appealing than these.
ameen··on When Jewish wives beefed with butchers and changed the world
Here’s an alternate source: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2010/aug/26...

I’m an Indian Muslim (born and raised in KSA), and while the source is from a PETA website it’s what we’ve practiced. You can independently look up the Hadith (narrations) and see if they are valid.

Although modern Muslims have become a lot more meat dependent due to modern agriculture practices (as have most societies regardless of faith), I would argue that for Muslims vegetarianism or moderation in meat consumption isn’t a repugnant idea as it is for most folks in the west.

ameen··on When Jewish wives beefed with butchers and changed the world
Halal meat in Europe is stunned, only Kosher meat can’t be stunned. The only difference between halal and most modern methods is the blessing.
ameen··on When Jewish wives beefed with butchers and changed the world
I’m not sure about Kosher, but for meat to be considered Halal - it has to be treated well and not suffer. If the animal suffers it is rendered non-halal. Halal meat is more humane than widely used slaughter methods.

There is misconception among non-Muslims that halal doesn’t support modern slaughter methods, but it actually adapts to work with it. ~60% of all halal meat in the UK is stunned, whilst 0% of kosher meat is. Please do not conflate the two to push an agenda. The only source used throughout this thread is Grandin and not actually looking at the industry itself.

Islam also favors vegetarianism due to the sunnah of the prophet eating only what is required and not have elaborate meals of extravagance and food wastage but we aren’t ready for that conversation in a capitalist society (Less consumption = lower profits)

ameen··on Why Laugh at Quibi's Failure?
Correction: Musk didn’t start a new car company in America. He’s not even a founder.
ameen··on Reddit’s About page doesn't include Aaron Swartz as a founder
For the uninitiated, this is from the sci-fi series, “The Expanse” which has found a home on Amazon Prime. Highly recommended for those interested in an interplanetary sci-fi.
ameen··on Modi government to set up app store alternative to Google Play, Apple App Store
lol, yup - Muslims are the Indian bogeyman. Similar to how African Americans and Hispanics are looked at in the U.S.

The value for life is non-existent in India, unfortunately.

ameen··on Oculus Quest 2
Classic knee-jerk reaction. Don’t use Facebook and they literally can’t do anything with their data. I’ve stopped using FB beyond messenger and I doubt my data helps them in anyway shape or form.
ameen··on U.S. to block cotton, tomato product imports from Xinjiang over forced labor
There's a clear distinction between the U.S. Government and the CCP. There's valid opposition and differing opinions _within_ Washington. The same cannot be said of CCP.

Infamous whistleblowers of the U.S. Government/Washington regularly get airtime. When was the last time you heard of a Snowden/Manning from the CCP?

ameen··on U.S. to block cotton, tomato product imports from Xinjiang over forced labor
There’s testimonies of actual Uighurs who have described what goes on in these camps- are they now CIA plants?
ameen··on U.S. to block cotton, tomato product imports from Xinjiang over forced labor
Not really, most of these countries ( African, Middle East and Pakistan ) don’t speak out because their economies depend on it (Belt and Road initiative). None of them have the stability to withstand economic sanctions against them by the Chinese.
ameen··on Tesla Shares Fall as It Fails to Make It into S&P 500 Index
In no way shape or form are their “innovations” gonna be bigger than what Panasonic and other long term battery manufacturers are gonna come out with. Tesla seems to be designed to create hype around nothing - a few months ago it was how novel their heating was. All while covering up glaring quality issues with Model Y.

I advised my friends to buy the dip around Feb for ~350, but now is the best time to at least sell 75% of the stock and take home a cool profit on the backs of fanboys.
