amanaplanacanalon Suspension of the de minimis administrative exemption for imports $800 or less

I suspect the only thing that would make people demand a better solution is if we got rid of employer paid health care. If everyone had to buy from the exchange, people would freak out.

amanaplanacanalon Suspension of the de minimis administrative exemption for imports $800 or less

Hard to see how making things more expensive for consumers is not a mistake, but I could totally be missing something.

amanaplanacanalon AI safety is mostly a sex cult

So how they enjoy their sex lives is dependant on continuing to preach AI catastrophism? I don't buy it. Lots of poly folks out here that probably don't care much about AI one way or another.

amanaplanacanalon AI safety is mostly a sex cult

The word "cult" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. It can mean anything from religion, to weird religion I don't like, to the organizations that try to cut you off from contact with your family and other people outside the organization. Only the last type are the bad ones, from what I can see.

amanaplanacanalon Mind-altering drugs played key role in rise of Andean civilization

This theory relies on not defining consciousness. My dog certainly appears to be conscious, and I doubt there is any evidence of some canine use of psychedelics.

amanaplanacanalon Great Lakes sturgeon may be 400 years old:Scientists rethinking how to save them

Where I live on the West Coast any towns older than a couple hundred years are long gone, the people were killed or evicted from their land long ago. The existing towns are all new.

Although it uses the same technology as gambling, it's for a different purpose. You aren't hoping to die, you are doing risk management for your family.

amanaplanacanalon All grown-ups were once children, but only few of them remember it

It's gambling. I think pretty much all carnival games work like that.

I don't think anybody was suggesting getting rid of cars.

amanaplanacanalon Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives

I barely drink, but the previous attempt to ban it was terrible for society. I totally understand their thinking on this.

amanaplanacanalon Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives

That was a few years ago. I wonder if feelings have changed as more people get experience with self driving vehicles.

amanaplanacanalon Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives

That is certainly something we have done horribly wrong in most of the US.

amanaplanacanalon Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives

I'm guessing this is sarcastic, but you never know.

amanaplanacanalon The two Christian saints who are the Buddha

The Bible teaches a lot of different things. It's not one message, as much as people want it to be.

amanaplanacanalon The two Christian saints who are the Buddha

Sound similar to other religions. You have a set of scriptures, traditions, and mythologies, that get interpreted by each individual believer. Christianity is pretty much the same.

We also have Christian nationalists in the US, for a more politically active flavor.

amanaplanacanalon The two Christian saints who are the Buddha

It definitely was. There were at least sometimes extenuating circumstances though.

My sense is that in the US and Canada settlers found a great deal of "apparently" uninhabited land, largely a result of the diseases that had swept through because of earlier contact, decimating the existing population.

My guess is that had disease not done its work, the European settlers would have found it much harder to displace the existing inhabitants.

amanaplanacanalon The two Christian saints who are the Buddha

Even then, they only claimed Yahweh as their God (of the Jews), not the one god of everybody. Things have certainly changed with the ascendance of Christianity though.
