amadeoeoeo··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
"Correction" from Bernhard. Wow. This is in its own league of weirdness and yet it flows...
amadeoeoeo··on Spain orders blocks on Archive.today and its mirrors
Since a few months archive.is is "unstable" from Spain. I thought the reason is the ISP but sometimes by just reloading it works... Can anybody shed some light?
amadeoeoeo··on PISA 2025 Students' reading and mathematics performance declined across the OECD
Spaniard here. Yeah, not surprising — there’s a bit of a cultural fondness for sabotage, or at least for deliberately messing with things that are "official" but somehow unimportant.
amadeoeoeo··on PISA 2025 Students' reading and mathematics performance declined across the OECD
I see news and forums claiming the problem is screens/smartphones and social media.

Given the big gap between the east and the west... does anybody know if these are somehow less used/abused in asian countries?

Any other reason why this gap might happen?

Thanks

amadeoeoeo··on Show HN: Huzzah – a novel approach to coding with AI
I really feel the pain here, I have myself tried things ol these lines... I will give Huzzah it a try.

My concern, however, is that all of these options might ultimately be slower than just prompting.

I mean, at this point, another option would be to just go back to actually writing the code ourselves, like we did back then in 2024 ??

amadeoeoeo··on Extensible Software in the age of LLMs
This is already happening.

Clients come and show me their proof of concept, fully vibecoded, because they do not know / do not have the time to take it to prod. Other comments saying this will be automated in the future... may be. But even if that is the case, time and attention are still needed to make things happen.

With the extendended capabilities IA brings, having an IT person in-house makes more sense than ever, even for small shops.

amadeoeoeo··on Xiaomi launches next-gen SU7 with 902 km range and Lidar, still undercuts Tesla
There are many variables and scenarios, yes. This, however, is not an excuse not to provide some more data points that help people estimate what they are really getting...

Anyway Tesla has data from all their cars, they could use that.

amadeoeoeo··on Spherical Snake
Love it! Would like to have the option to make the arrow buttons closer to play with one hand. Thank you!
amadeoeoeo··on I rebooted my social life
Get a new hobby out of your compfort zone? (Should imply some human interaction e.g. Reading Club, Team sport, Language Exchange...)
amadeoeoeo··on Make product worse, get money
There are dozens of interesting "conflicting interests" cases in business and life.

But...Pizza?

amadeoeoeo··on ChatGPT Atlas
Any information on how to make webs and web apps easier to navigate for these agents? I got it using some apps and it did amazing job. However I realized it complains about certain (very ovious) buttons being not easy to see
amadeoeoeo··on AWS multiple services outage in us-east-1
Oh no... may be LaLiga found out pirates hosting on AWS?
amadeoeoeo··on Purikura: The Japanese Grandmother of the Selfie
It seems after making it several times to the front page in HN the author has decided to give this (apart from the ads) really interesting blog a new try... I hope they find a less intrusive way to monetize it.
amadeoeoeo··on The contrarian physics podcast subculture
Sabine papers, those in "her area of expertise" were pretty bad, at least those I read. We reviewed several of them out of curiosity in several journal clubs. She is pure show.
amadeoeoeo··on Ask HN: Startup shutting down, should we open source?
Hey, I do not quite understand your statement. How should this happen? Ex Devs? Hacking my git account? Or do you mean something else?
amadeoeoeo··on Ask HN: Startup shutting down, should we open source?
What does "appropriate code base mean"? If I did it, then I would of course cleanse a bit here and there, make the corpse prettier as somebody wrote in another comment. More thant that, however, is an amount of work which is just not viable. Thanks!
amadeoeoeo··on Ask HN: Startup shutting down, should we open source?
That is interesting. May I ask what do you mean by "if you can"? Thx
amadeoeoeo··on Ask HN: Startup shutting down, should we open source?
People's servers hosting it. I will not be officially responsible but anyway not nice. I may be just paranoid
amadeoeoeo··on Ask HN: Startup shutting down, should we open source?
Thanks for the advice. One fear I have is about security. Is the code is exposed, it will be way easier to exploit potential security flaws... I will not be able to just do nothing if this is the case .. Ill end up wanting it.
amadeoeoeo··on Ask HN: Startup shutting down, should we open source?
lol. To be clear I like her the way she is... It did not work financially but I believe it is a neat piece of code. I keep "using it" myself regularly ;)
amadeoeoeo··on Dance Captcha
Finally free of crawlers
amadeoeoeo··on Sleep is essential – researchers are trying to work out why
That is like saying God is the ultimate form of religion
amadeoeoeo··on The Future of Htmx
Even if you did give a shit about those things, all that can be achieved with jQuery. IMO the real downside of jQuery is not being as opinionated as other mentioned "technologies", which leaves too much room for thinking
amadeoeoeo··on What can strong engineers do that weak engineers can't?
I like to think of different engineer tiers as pricing tiers in SaaS: "everything in the previous tier + higher limits + new stuff you can only get in this tier".
amadeoeoeo··on Hiroshi Nagai: Japan's Sun-Drenched Americana
Very interesting blog overall, loved the mud entities festival and the baby crying competition
amadeoeoeo··on When machine learning tells the wrong story
This is awesome, interesting and well explained. Thank you! I would love to hear more about it. I wonder which concrete real life uses this might have (had).
amadeoeoeo··on Gravity is not a force
As a theoretical physicist I would not say Sabine is very trustworthy. During some journal clubs we analyzed some papers of hers and they were really low quality. This does not invalidate everything she says though...
amadeoeoeo··on A curious phenomenon called 'Etak'
Isn't this a necessary part on the innovation path?
amadeoeoeo··on Color: From Hexcodes to Eyeballs (2018)
I wonder how the brain would perceive a single cone excitation. Could this be achieved via chemicals?
