Gas is already outlawed for new builds in Victoria, despite vast gas resources in the Bass Strait. Presumably that's the direction other states are heading too.
It's very difficult for most (not all) people to relate to others who are either significantly more or significantly less intelligent than them. So, for example (using IQ as a proxy), most people of average intelligence (~100IQ) would find it difficult to relate to those of ~65IQ, and equally difficult to find much in common with someone much more intelligent than them (140+IQ). Given power laws / bell-curve distribution, most people on the tails of intelligence distribution will spend most of their time surrounded by people they can't really relate to. This does not seem like a recipe for happiness.
This has always struck me as dumb, as until recently it was far cheaper to use your existing (gas-fired) hot water than to use a resistive element. However, with gas going out of fashion (and already hugely expensive in the Eastern states), and abundant solar PV, the calculus has changed.
I summarise YT videos with Gemini all the time. You can easily control the length and depth of the summary & get it to focus on particular things etc, before investing time in watching it, only to find out it's promotional, superficial, clickbait, or some combination of all 3.
Is it worth using heat pumps in this setup (in addition to resistive elements)? I understand they can't reach the absolute temperature of resistive heating, but from an efficiency POV for the first few tens of degrees they are much more efficient.
Merchant fraud this time. Done through the (soon-to-be-ex) bank but they brought up the charge from Visa.
It’s possible that my current bank is particularly bad at this, as they are bad at everything else. I have had the runaround with merchant error and stolen card number chargebacks with other banks though.
Depending on which country you're in and which bank you're with, chargebacks are nothing like as straightforward as they used to be. I just completed yet another one, which involved 2 separate phone calls totalling over an hour (so probably not worth it on a $/hour basis), accepting the risk that if Visa rejects the claim I'm liable for a further $50 charge (this is new), and generally 3 months of hassle until I got most of the money back (less the international transaction fee, as the merchant had fraudulently claimed to be in the same country as me, but charged me from the UK).
Just yesterday, asking it to make some design changes to my study. It did a great job with all the complex stuff, but asking it to move a shelf higher, it repeatedly gave me back the same image. With LLMs generally I find as soon as you encounter resistance it's best to start a new chat, however in this case that didn't wok either. Not a single thing I could do to convince it that the shelf didn't look right half way up a wall.
Because if you have read the other comments (not threads), and you are capable of reading comprehension, you will be aware that this adds compliance costs for everyone in the space, and is especially disastrous for any small operators that cannot afford to employ people specifically to deal with red tape. "Can't hurt" indeed...
Also, thanks for pointing out this isn't Reddit, I wasn't aware.
A firmly-held but poorly-thought-out opinion? How unusual.
Many of the other comments on this thread point out what the "hurt" is, and it is not trivial, neither is it particularly difficult to understand. Unless you choose not to.
GLP-1 definitely doesn’t prevent you increasing your percentage of total calories from protein, and doing regular resistance exercise. That was the advice from my doctor, and while I’m only 2 months in, weekly scans have not yet shown any significant decrease in lean mass. I don’t see any reason why they would, as long as I continue eating protein and lifting heavy things.
Well no, obviously not, but we do have 20 years of data, and aside from a still-tiny-but-slightly-elevated thyroid cancer risk, there’s really not much showing up in that data.
GLP-1 isn’t new - the first trials were 20 years ago & there’s a lot of long term data from its use in diabetes management, prior to the weight loss application.
Didn't he write "no reasonable person doubts that the Holocaust happened" in the blog post you are referring to? That's an....unusual way to deny the Holocaust.
I think B2 (small) B SaaS is also in trouble pretty much now. Enterprise is a different thing though, the barriers to entry are not just building and maintaining the software.
