aluminaient··on What happened to the first cryogenically frozen humans?
You've repeated their point.
aluminaient··on What happened to the first cryogenically frozen humans?
Naive to think otherwise.
aluminaient··on Tornado Cash Dev Arrested
Or any code at all? This is an attack on open source software no matter how you cut it.
aluminaient··on UN trade body calls for halting cryptocurrency rise in developing countries
What do you recommend? This seems like the singular usecase of cryptocurrency.

aluminaient··on Sybil attacks on airdrops
Grin wasnt instamined or premined. One new coin per second is mined forever starting day one. So it is pretty interesting and very high inflation and widely considered to be the most fair distribution to date.
aluminaient··on Sybil attacks on airdrops
Are you saying you think bitcoin was fair? That seems hard to support.
aluminaient··on I've started using Firefox and can never go back to Chrome
No. There is no such thing as a "literally killer feature" unless it is some feature that can cause death. A killer feature in this case is exclusively figurative and adding "literally" is wrong to do.
aluminaient··on No, Bitcoin Is Not Going to Fail
How could that limit be reached faster with better technology?
aluminaient··on Crimes against transhumanity
It would make a huge difference ta find out tomorrow all of this was simulated for some arbitrary end.

Android on eink is wonderful. Can even comfortably watch videos (in color if you like). Ive been using hisense a5 for years. Its the future.
aluminaient··on The Blockchain in a Historical Perspective
Youre joking right? Aside from the massive well know scandals, I find it extremely hard to believe you havent personally experienced sameone fudging numbers to your detriment
aluminaient··on GrapheneOS: The private and secure mobile OS
The logic is not warped. Goegle makes very secure hardware. Conceivably samsung tpm would work too, but too much work to support so many hardware.

Its the only smart phone that can guarantee the radio is off when you put it in airplane mode.

aluminaient··on GrapheneOS: The private and secure mobile OS
Surprisingly, of any rom you could install, graphene is the simplest. You just open a website after installing android drivers for your pc. Its an impressive feat on its own beyond how impressive the software is.
aluminaient··on U.S. transition to 988 suicide and crisis lifeline begins Saturday
Your life is subjectively half way over at 16. Dont kid yourself.
aluminaient··on How Not to Fight Inflation
Screaming for 15-50 years.... and almost instantly all the fears come true. Citing the blink of an eye that is half a century as if it is long term proof of anything is the exact breed of short sighted egotism than got us here.
aluminaient··on Sri Lanka is having a textbook currency crisis, triggered by policy mistakes
Havent had a crisis yet*
aluminaient··on “A Mild Recession”
this fairytale may help you sleep at night. But 100 years is almost no history at all, i hope you can appreciate that.
aluminaient··on Technologically, Bitcoin and blockchain technology is garbage
"A disinflationary emission, such as a pure linear one that results from a fixed block reward, would prevent rampant speculation, and encourage use as a currency. Bitcoin would not be something to invest in, but something to buy in order to transact in."

Was just about to recommend looking into grin [1] before I realized who you were.

aluminaient··on Show HN: Inflation-adjusted stock charts – Total Real Returns
The only time stocks have been this expensive was just before the great depression and just before 2008. They are practically the most overvalued they've ever been, ignoring the last year or two of QE, which were intuitively overpriced. Thinking they are cheap now is how you get burned.

Which is how the system works. 109% of people can not run NK txs if they decide to. It is totally democratic.
aluminaient··on The PocketReform is a made-in-Berlin Linux handheld
i hope that the screen is as modular as the rest of it. i am looking forward to swapping an aelectronic paper display, black and white or color.

to the people writing off the keyboard, i don't think you know what you're talking about. it takes maybe a day to get used to this layout, and ortholinear is much more logical and comfortable than what most people are used to.

the people complaining about the space bar are the most confused. wide space bars ourr a waste of space. you don't touch the whole thing anyway.

some people have commented on shortcuts being in the wrong place, but this is also flawed thinking. for copycut and paste you can use your right thumb to press the modifier key or control.

i just hope this is not too big to use with just two thumbs. my dream device is some keyboard wider than a blackberry style one. i miss my sidekick.

aluminaient··on Hands on Review of the Hisense A9 4G E Ink Android 11 Smartphone
i have been using an earlier model of this device, the a5, and it is really an incredible device. you can watch videos, reading especially hacker news is a dream, it has a great audio chip and headphone jack, and the battery life is incredible.

i've been using it recently on a backpacking trip as my primary map source and for listening to music, and in five days the battery is above eighty percent still. the only reasons i haven't upgraded is that it still works great and there are no jailbreak options yet for the newer models. it is not my daily driver, but i would leave lcd screens or o l e d screens behind in an instant if apple or google made a paper display device. with jailbreak on mine i feel relatively safe it is not sending any data i don't approve, but because the jailbreaking is a volunteer effort, updates come out too infrequently for me to use as a daily driver.

I tested the color screv version (the CC) which was magical but it lakced the contrast of regular epaper. There are improvements in the color epaper i've heard.

aluminaient··on My 40-liter backpack travel guide
I can highly recommend Wool & Prince shorts (wearing them now while living out of a backpack). They make pants too. They are a nylon blend, which is much better than other brands i've found because one of the benefits of wool is it is oleophili (doesnt absorb oil) and nylon shares this property. Any other synthetic blend and you lose that property. Their wool shirts are also the only ones i travel with.
