Pack it in, guys. No magic today.
What style? Is it a texture? If so, I’ll need a model that can generate a large tiled image. Is it a logo? What kind? Is it badged, vintage, corporate, etc
I share your frustration with electronics. I'd love to be able to simply shove it all back into the wall once I'm done. Power supply, soldering iron, components and all.
Edit: I also bought an emergency jumpstart battery for my car. Saved me twice when my battery suddenly started having issues. Went from feeling “stuck” to back on the road in under 2 minutes.
I’d never considered the kinship a mason might feel, taking up the work of restoring or repairing the work of a predecessor who may have died hundreds of years before.
I’ve heard people say that while you have the chance, you should sit down and interview your father. The other day I happened to stumble on a list of questions one might ask:
1. What is your best memory of your own father?
2. What did you have as a child that kids today are missing?
3. What has life taught you about love?
4. What are the three most important values in life?
5. What was the moment you were most proud of me?
6. What do you wish most for your children?
7. What is the most importantly family tradition you’d like us to keep?
Initially I’d wanted to track spending as well but apps like YNAB cover this use-case better than I can in the near term so I struck it from the roadmap.
I’m trying to focus on health: meal planning and workout scheduling in a system flexible enough to make suggestions as your exercise regimen (and thus your nutritional requirements) change. Will also be looking into sleep tracking and other metrics.
Let me know if there’s anything else you’d want to see from an app like this. Happy to shoot you a link to the repo when the MVP gets off the ground.
Claude 3 Opus has replaced ChatGPT for all of my use-cases to the extent that I'm probably going to cancel my GPT4 subscription. This is for web-based Python and JS work, so YMMV.
Longform articles notwithstanding, do you have any interest in audiobooks? I recall Moby Dick filling a similar role.

It always seemed so perverse to me to promote this sort of tacit approval--as you say--passing it off as "cute" instead of... improving things.
I almost didn't graduate high school and made a mess of my time at university, dropping out entirely my senior year (drugs and alcohol fueled by deep self-loathing made this an easy choice at the time).
Like you, I wish my dad had realized what he was doing in raising his children the way he did. His circumstances were deeply cruel. My relationship with him now continues to be marred by my understanding that he doled out the same punishment to his children and justified it by telling himself he was making us tougher.
In the end, it also took me nearly a decade to reach some level of parity with my peers. If that resilience is what got me here, then fair enough. But the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.
Human beings--especially modern ones--assign worth quite differently, and I think that you and I would agree that morally, the way we refer to "worth" in our modern context is the correct framing. But you cannot deny your own biology, no matter how much the modern world insists that you can. You are evaluated according to nature's standards of "worth," (the worth that it imposes onto our psyche) and then secondarily, according to our own set of invented standards. So yes, it is deeply sad. No one will care about the out-of-work tradesperson.
I promise I'm not a luddite. Just stopping for a moment to smell the roses.
