My personal career epiphany was moving from a tech giant to a late-stage, pre-IPO startup. The amount of freedom and range of challenges I dealt with were exhilarating. Did it pay as much? Not in the beginning, but I was given the room to grow.

Agreed, I already cancelled my business travel two weeks before our state issued its first guidance on WFH. OpenTable's data showed the significant drop in reservations weeks before official orders as well.

Cynically, since the morbidity is mostly in the elderly parts of the population vs. the younger ( a la 1918 ), I can see the Lt. Gov of Texas's attitude of " let the olds make their sacrifice" be the driving principle...

It has been horribly fascinating watching the (coordinated?) campaign to downplay either the fatality rate or just write off a percentage off the population dying as the "cost of doing business".
