alsoforgotmypwd··on Why "alias" is my last resort for aliases
Similar problems.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Why “alias” is my last resort for aliases
So many CLI tools delivered as bash/bourne shell scripts to source relying on aliases and other shell magic (aliases and functions rather than commands) fall apart when used in automated unattended environments like build processes.
alsoforgotmypwd··on The weird afterlife of Xbox Kinect
They're also great for 3D room and maybe model scanning.

It was the basis for the first Matterport hardware platform.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Brother accused of locking down third-party printer ink cartridges
There are zillions of cheap, chipped third-party HP toner cartridges for Pro and enterprise printers.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Trump calls for repealing the CHIPS Act
Annihilate. Decimate would only be 10%.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Brother accused of locking down third-party printer ink cartridges
5 year or more year old used HP enterprise workgroup printer only or mopier with low page count are ideal for personal use. In general, the more expensive the initial purchase price of laser printers, the more repairable and durable and lower cost per page they are. (I worked in a large university department in the 00's where they had zillions of network enterprise HP printers of all sizes.)

I have an HP LaserJet Pro M402dw because I don't have a particular need for color.

alsoforgotmypwd··on Dangerous Playgrounds of the 1970s: Photos That Prove Safety Wasn't a Priority
Pretty much. The earlier understanding of and managing risk is more practical than a making a world that's absolutely safe in a small area that's unrealistic compared to the rest of it.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Dangerous Playgrounds of the 1970s: Photos That Prove Safety Wasn't a Priority
I remember a park in San Jose that had a vertical steel art maze that only kids could fit into and a Korean-era jet in the sandbox. The boring safety helicopter parents ripped out everything fun and replaced it with corporate plastic garbage that's incredibly safe but soulless and rarely used.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Federal workers ordered to return to offices without desks, Wi-Fi and lights
America is a third-world country because people stopped caring, stopped reading, and fell for a cult.
alsoforgotmypwd··on The End of Weather Forecasting
Any sane person with an IQ >100, I recommend exercising 2a and forming local defense councils.
alsoforgotmypwd··on The End of Weather Forecasting
He had a brother though and he likes powerups too.
alsoforgotmypwd··on The End of Weather Forecasting
The goal is stupid supremacy without respect for anticipating consequences. People will die and life for everyone will suck more because of this unnecessary bullshit.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Executive wealth as a factor in return-to-office
Chris Hedges recently interviewed Catherine Liu, the author of Virtue Hoarders: The Case against the Professional Managerial Class. They are a mostly invisible spectrum of plutocratic aristocracy who essentially replaced the middle class and gained immense wealth, power, and sense of entitlement.
alsoforgotmypwd··on The “strategic reserve” exposes crypto as the scam it always was
Or nuclear stockpile maintenance, firefighters, or clean water. Who needs that shit anyhow when everyone has their own private firefighters, goons, and water filtration?

alsoforgotmypwd··on The “strategic reserve” exposes crypto as the scam it always was
That's the sucker view. It's only useful for transactions because it's too risky to hold.
alsoforgotmypwd··on The “strategic reserve” exposes crypto as the scam it always was
And probably emoluments too.
alsoforgotmypwd··on The “strategic reserve” exposes crypto as the scam it always was
I'm fine with crypto for transactions, but I'm not fine with my government using our money to pick winners and losers, conflicts of interest, emoluments, or artificially propping up what are likely bubbles and pyramid schemes.

I'm wondering though if this research and clinical trials has had their funding threatened recently.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Brian Krebs: This Administration Is Completely Compromised

alsoforgotmypwd··on Mark Zuckerberg Announces the "Beginning of the End" for Programmers
Maximum AI bubble hype.

This is all about suppressing wages, laying off American engineers, and rationalizing many tens of billions wasted on building AI infrastructure no one needed and no one will use.

alsoforgotmypwd··on I ate and reviewed every snack in our office kitchen
This person has zero taste. The mint builder's bar is awesome.
alsoforgotmypwd··on FBI Warns iPhone, Android Users–We Want Lawful Access to All Your Encrypted Data
Tim Cook is all about the money and has no integrity. That's why he caved and why he also got the kneepads out to kiss Trump's feet.
alsoforgotmypwd··on What Makes a Great Software Engineer (Dissertation) (2016) [pdf]
It comes off a bit verbose and hand-wavy.

My view of GSEs:

- Wiliness to test hypotheses, listen to others, seeks input and feedback, and maintain metrics to decide if various methods are or aren't working.

- Minimal ego.

- Curiosity about things at lower levels.

- Mastery of first principles and able to create data structures and algorithms optimized for specific, difficult problems.

- Ability to debug up and down the stack quickly.

- Concern for stability and usability by consumers of products and services maintained and delivered.

- Ability to teach and mentor.

- Ethical integrity refusing to compromise or exploit users for short-term business gain.

alsoforgotmypwd··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
That's because many current regimes have exploited anocracy with the appearance of individual choice while manufacturing consent. Previously, it was done by force which is what doesn't scale.
alsoforgotmypwd··on Schools Should Pursue Excellence
The Wing Institute appears to be a 2 generations removed repeat of Challenger Schools: educators who got tired of bureaucratic fads and mediocrity and decided to do something about it in their small corner of the world.

They're still not paying public school teachers nearly enough anywhere. And school facilities are crumbling in impoverished areas.

NCLBA was a disaster rammed through by the person least qualified to understand education, the bozo GWB, and without asking educators.

alsoforgotmypwd··on Schools Should Pursue Excellence
Yep. And that's why charter schools, school vouchers, and private schools are the manifestations of desire for those wishing to destroy and defund public secular education.
